a great introduction
soolll22 October 2021
I really liked this chapter and how it introduced us to Sam's daily life and it's really great that we get to see how he struggles with "common things" that most people of his age do (like dating) and I liked that they show us his way of "seeing life" and thinking.

Although the characters were well developed the parent's acting was not that good and I didn't liked them. I really liked Zahid's and Cassie's roles.

This episode was really good and capturing, i'm interested about how the show is going to continue!!

good performances and good start
felidu25 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I think it was a great episode, the performances were fantastic and the roles of sam and his sister were spectacular. The role of the mother did not fit me much in the series since she is a mother who does not relate very well with the father of sam and with him. On the contrary, sam's sister is a good person with him and although he does not have much experience in relating to people, she likes him.

Great Episode!
pdecrescenzo13 May 2021
I loved the pilot episode of Atypical. It does a great job of introducing Sam and his daily navigation through life while being surrounded by neuro normative people. The show communicates autism in a very realistic way which I appreciate. I especially appreciate how this episode of Atypical depicts Sam's family. He has a father that struggles to connect with him, as they have nothing in common. He has an overprotective mother that fears him trying new things as she is afraid of the risk that comes along with it. He has a sister whose entire personality is shaped by her need to protect not only her brother but other people that are mistreated. Atypical shows how the world of autism shapes family life and communicates that in a way many people can empathize with. Autism not only affects the autistic person, but also the people around them. Atypical demonstrates this to the fullest extent in the debut episode. In under 45 minutes, it is able to set the tone for the entire series. I have no complaints! Looking forward to watching more!

An interesting episode
victoriabizet22 October 2021
I guess that this episode is a great start and its interesting what happened with the boy and his love life. Sometimes its a bit inapropriate for young children but the good thing is that those parts are not explicit.

Great structure ^^
ada-4954925 October 2021
First of, how the episode starts. In the start you can easily recognize how sam life is, pinguins being his comfort thing is very clever and I rlly liked how they could associate pinguins with humans (sometimes it's hilarious)

Loved the characters and their personality's, honestly in this first episode it looks like the world revolves around Sam, but then everybody gets their own problems and own perspectives. Actors and actrices were great.

An interesting way to see the autism
juanseparente25 October 2021
A great beginning to a series,i like a lot how they develop the characters, not only the principal characters but also the secondary characters, for example Zahid or they psicologist.

An other good think it's how they share to you the way that Sam sees the world.

No that good
garrojulia-8271225 October 2021
I feel that the father did not appear much in the chapter and does not speak so much, my favorite character is the sister because she helps him and spends time with him, the mother does not care much about the children at the only time they speak is during dinner and afterwards nothing, the series is rather short, I did not like it that much.

Great first episode
creevycoorp22 October 2021
I really enjoyed the first episode and it is a great start to the series. The episode introduces very well the main characters: an overprotective mother, a father that wants to be closer to his son and sister that proyecta his brother.

I think that the title was well Chosen because Sam talks all the time about Antartica and penguins.

I think that the episode shows autism in a very realistic way I think that some parts are innapropiate for little kids I think that it is a great episode and I would recommend it.

not atypical but stereotypical
candelamerli22 October 2021
Its a good start to the series, well structured, but I don't like the way autism is represented, main character is based on stereotypes and most family problems are based on Sam's autism too. On the other side, the episode proyects every character's essence and personalities, it really feels like you are connecting with everyone on Sam's life.

A great introduction to the characters.
simonejuan25 October 2021
I Think that this episode is not the best of the serie but Is a great first episode,it defines perfectly the characters.

I only watched the first season and i can say that my favorite characters are:the father and sam's sister i think that are the two that their live Is not around the sam's autism.

The only thing that i don't like Is all the stereotypes of the autism.

Beatiful start
nachoalaniz-7387625 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was honestly surprised by the start. The environment of the serie is very funny. It's not difficult to understand.

I was fascinated with the characters for fullfill they role, but i hated Sam's mother. She is very ignorant, and never worked hard to help Sam with autism problems. My favorite character was Sam's sister. Her attitude and how she help people that needs it is incredible. For example, when she rejects the man that tried to go out with her because she really wanted to help her brother with dates.

In summary, even though I didn't finish the series, it seemed like a good start.

Great introduction, I never got bored in this episode. Im intrigued about how this serie is going to continue, I really recommend it.

Some parts are too stereotypical, that is the only thing that I don't like from this show.

I love the acting of Sam and his sister.

great first episode!
matiasetche-1864322 October 2021
A passable first episode, I like Sam and how he act.

It's a likable introduction to the serie, the mother is very funny and the father too. I'm going to see all the episodes because I like it very much.

Don't see it with young children because there are scenes inappropriate, but is a very good plot.

I recommended very much.

All about Sam
perezcasalsol25 October 2021
In this chapter we see Sam's family, and Sam's life. I like that his sister always protect him, his father is there if he need it, and then is the mother, I don't know how to describe her, but I don't like her personality.

Here we see what Sam likes, his good things, and his bad things. Basically is all about Sam.

The episode is not bad, but I don't like it so much.

Catchy entertaining first episode
leonardopantaleo22 October 2021
This opening certainly introduces both characters and themes of the series in an extremely effective way. Peppered with funny scenes, the series manages to present Sam's and his family's lives: all of them shaped by Sam's condition.

Zahid already stands out, even being a secondary character, as an incredible comic relief. He adds humour and strikes a balance compensating for Sam's innocent perception of reality.

The choice of Antartica and penguins as the motif to allow the character to reflect upon life is both hilarious and profound.

The story of the parents is somewhat slow at times, but it certainly adds a layer of complexity to the series.

Definitely worth watching.

Horrible mother
entej14 July 2021
Mother is extremely unlikable, stubborn and overprotective. Shrink is too young, very unrealistic. The only likable character was a daughter but it's not enough for me watch more than one episode.

worst start of an serie😐
donnisimonetti25 October 2021
This pilot episode has a poor portrayal of autism, it gives the impression that the autism makes the family and Sam's life impossible. That doesn't happen in real life. I don't like the way they treated autism .

The mother said with different words that she has a diabolical life ONLY BECAUSE SHE HAS AN AUTISTIC SON. By the way, she treated badly the therapist only because she recommended Sam having a girlfriend, a normal thing that an adolescent can do.

I loved the therapist and the way she can deal with the mother and the way she defended Sam and taught him.

A nice start, a little unrealistic, but wonderful
fiorewander25 October 2021
-I think that this episode is great for the beginning. The daily life of the family, which is affected by Sam's condition, is described in an unbelievable way.

-For example, it's clear how the problems and discussions between the parents are usually related to Sam. Still, I believe that's a little exaggerated and extreme.

-Meanwhile, it also affects the life of Sam and his sister. Something that is normal for anyone of their age, always is messed up because the people take Sam's actions as weird and amusing.

(I believe that maybe in other times this reaction would be common. But in the present, persons with autism are incorporated into the society. Nowadays, you would be portrayed as cruel if you reacted like the characters did in this episode.)

-In other hand, the chapter showed how characters are going to develop, with their motivators, and goals, which stay during all the episode, such a lovely detail.

-For now on, I think this series has a beautiful objective, to show each person's perspective, and how difficult life is for someone with autism. But, I think that before starting, they should have information, without using such exaggerated situations. They should tell you that reality isn't always like that.
