Exclusive: Chris Coy (Lawmen: Bass Reeves) has been tapped for a series regular role on Netflix’s drama Black Rabbit, as well as a supporting role in David Robert Mitchell’s Warner Bros film Flowervale Street.
In the former project, Coy will play Babbitt, a low-level bookie. Details as to his Flowervale part and the film’s plot remain under wraps.
Starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law, Black Rabbit is a limited series centering on some serious sibling drama: When the owner of a New York City hotspot (Law) allows his turbulent brother (Bateman) back in his life, he opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built. As previously announced, Cleopatra Coleman, Amaka Okafor, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Dagmara Dominczyk will also star in the one-hour drama created and written by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, which is based on an original idea.

Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" and Louis Leterrier's "The Incredible Hulk" (both 2008) in many important ways weren't yet part of the then-nascent Marvel Cinematic Universe when they were first made. Favreau put in a post-credits stinger with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury more as a wink to fans than as an announcement that larger film projects were afoot. Additionally, Downey's cameo in "Incredible" was treated equally casually, with the actors reportedly improvising their dialogue. It would only be until after Disney purchased the Marvel library in 2009 that plans for an MCU would be put into place in earnest. In many ways, then, it would be Favreau's "Iron Man 2" in 2010 that launched the MCU properly and put plans for an "Avengers" feature film into motion.

This game should be more hyped, with both team neck and neck in the NFC East standings and looking to make a push toward the NFL playoffs in the second half of the season. Instead, you have a Dallas Cowboys team that is about where you would think they should be, in second place in the division. Then you have the New York Giants, whose season has been very forgettable to everyone associated with it. The Cowboys are big favorites at home, and this one could get ugly for the Giants quickly.

Portishead have released a remastered and expanded edition of their excellent live album, Roseland NYC Live, in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Stream it below.
Roseland NYC Live was originally released on November 2nd, 1998, and featured Portishead backed by a 28-piece orchestra. The reissue adds three tracks previously only available in the concert film: “Undenied,” “Numb,” and “Western Eyes.” It also includes the original performances of “Sour Times” and “Roads” at the now-defunct New York City venue Roseland.
“I can’t believe it’s 25 years since Roseland,” vocalist Beth Gibbons wrote on Instagram. “It was such a scary but exciting time for me. It was the first time we had played our new tracks since Dummy and knowing it was being recorded meant I didn’t sleep much in the nights before.”
Guitarist Adrian Utley added, “I have really good memories of this show which we played before our second album was released.

The tiny city of Dalton, Georgia, has left a large footprint in the daily lives of millions who most wouldn’t have stopped for a second to consider. Well, it’s probably more appropriate to say that millions have left large footprints in Dalton’s biggest export: this city is the “Carpet Capital of the World.” With 85% of carpets in the USA having been made there, the industry’s made it one of America’s most prosperous locations for several decades. It shouldn’t be a surprise that many an entrepreneur have attempted to establish themselves there, though that easy entry point into the American Dream has become more complicated in recent years––something made abundantly clear in Carpet Cowboys, the feature directorial debut of documentarians Emily MacKenzie and Noah Collier.

The episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw covering Overlord was Written by Andrew Hatfield, Narrated by Kier Gomes, Edited by Paul Bookstaber, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The channel covers so much from the ’80s and ’90s but the truth is, there’s more horror floating around now than ever before. With the rise of horror studios like Blumhouse or prestige studios like A24 realizing that horror can not only be profitable but award worthy, the theaters have no shortage of scary. That’s not even including streaming services like Tubi, Shudder, and even the big 4 going all in on either producing or showcasing horror on their platforms. A lot of these end up being successful but some of them flounder a bit, even when they deserve to soar. Today’s movie has good names in front of and behind the camera,...

With the Sam Raimi-produced 65 now playing in theaters, genre fans are getting something we’ve been craving for years – a big budget dinosaur thriller Not part of the Jurassic Park franchise. The film’s premise of an astronaut crash landing on Earth during the age of the dinosaurs sounds exactly like something that would have hit theaters and drive-ins back in the 60s and 70s when a healthy stream of dinosaur themed B-movie fare was released.
65 seems like a perfect genre mash-up of sci-fi and survival horror. Back in 1969, another genre hybrid about dinosaurs was set loose – The Valley of Gwangi. The hook? Cowboys vs. dinosaurs. Hell, if the movie came out today I guarantee that Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs would be the title.
The Valley of Gwangi was spearheaded by stop motion effects legend Ray Harryhausen and his long-time producing partner, Charles Schneer. Harryhausen needs no introduction. His...

When we next see Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’ll have a new gig, and it’s a mighty impressive one. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke with Entertainment Weekly about all things Marvel earlier today, and while talking about Captain America: New World Order, he mentioned that Ross will be the President of the United States in the movie.
“This is certainly a big part for Thaddeus Ross,” Kevin Feige said. “He’s the president of the United States in the film. And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There’s a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we’ll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the president of the United States in a way that is just incredible.

The Academy Awards have been around for nearly a century — and in that time they’ve evolved into an endlessly fascinating Petri dish of self-congratulatory pomposity and live-event chaos. Usually, the show goes off without a hitch. Yet not even the most seasoned, demanding television producer can stand firm against the combined forces of Hollywood egos and benign, indifferent happenstance. Will Smith’s shocking decision to storm the stage and smack Chris Rock at the 94th Oscars last night may be the most outrageous moment the Oscars have ever produced…...

Anna Kerrigan’s Cowboys was one of the big hits of Tribeca last year and has played at numerous other festivals since. The story of a mentally ill father who runs away into the wilderness with his young trans son because his former wife doesn’t recognise the child’s gender, it stars Steve Zahn, Jillian Bell and young newcomer Sasha Knight, and it has now found a place in the Glasgow Film Festival line-up. Shortly before the festival started, I met Anna and asked her how this rich and complex story first developed.
“I set it in a part of Montana where I used to spend time as a kid,” she says. “I was in a lonely, weird, transitional moment in my life and I was like, I need to go back to Montana. I started writing the story and all I knew was that there was a father.

The 35th edition of the BFI Flare: London Lgbtiq+ Film Festival will take place online with films available U.K.-wide via the BFI Player.
The 2020 physical edition of the festival was dramatically canceled at the last minute due to the rapid onset of coronavirus and forced to go online. A year down the line, the pandemic is still very much around, and cinemas are unlikely to open before May 17, necessitating another digital edition.
The 2021 edition will include 26 features and 38 free shorts from 23 countries. There isn’t an opening or closing film this year and all films will be available March 17-28, the duration of the festival.
BFI Flare is divided into three thematic strands: Hearts, Bodies and Minds. Highlights include Phil Connell’s “Jump, Darling,” a family drama about a drag queen reconnecting with his ageing grandmother, featuring the late Hollywood legend Cloris Leachman in her final starring role; Peeter Rebane’s “Firebird,...

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
And today we talk to the great Steve Zahn, currently starring in the impressive indie Cowboys. Conor and I were lucky enough to speak with Zahn about his eclectic career, including highlights such as Safe Men, Riding in Cars with Boys, and A Perfect Getaway.
We discuss the immense variety in his resume, from Reality Bites to Rescue Dawn, the slightly infamous legacy of Sundance fave Happy, Texas, the way he approaches each role, and a little-seen film called Blowin’ Smoke (Freak Talks About Sex).
Cowboys is currently available digitally.
For more from The B-Side, you can find every actor/director and the films discussed in one place here.

With a name like Cowboys, you might be expecting a film in the classic Western genre. And yes, as star Steve Zahn points out, the film is set in the West — Montana, to be exact. But that’s where the parallels end. Zahn tells us that, when you see the movie, what you’re going to […]

This evening, Tribeca Film Festival revealed the Jury-selected winning titles from the 19th annual confab, which was forced to postpone its originally scheduled April gathering in response to the global health crisis. In addition, Best U.S narrative feature screenplay went to Anna Kerrigan for Cowboys, a film that also earned a best actor nod for its star Steve Zahn. Assol Abdullina was awarded best actress for her performance in Materna. Also announced were the winners in the shorts program.

The classic Western, with its musings and missives on rugged masculinity, has always held an abiding fascination for gender-playful kids who lean towards the boy-ish side of the spectrum. The Paul Newman and Robert Redford vehicle “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” has long been a unifying favorite from the genre, and not simply because it gave us the term “butch.” The film’s outlaw buddy dynamic, and its tragic yet heroic ending, resonates deeply with the gender-transgressive kid — who is used to feeling alone and unseen. Most of us probably first watched the movie with our dads, making it all the more poignant.
Evoking the magic of this charged classic, “Cowboys” is the first feature from writer/director Anna Kerrigan, “Cowboys” is as sweeping in grand landscapes as it is delicate in scope. Kerrigan’s script keeps the focus tight on four main characters, effectively crafting a satisfying adventure...
