The Halloween Night
claudio_carvalho2 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Eleven recalls how she escaped from the Upside Down and met Hopper. She asks him if she can dress like a ghost to go trick-or-treating but Hopper tells that it would be too dangerous. He promises to bring candy for her and watch a scary movie with Eleven. Hopper heads to investigate the mystery of the rotten pumpkins. Nancy wants to tell to Barb´s parents that she is dead, but Steve warns that it would be a problem for her with the government. Dustin and Lucas invite Max to go treat-or-treating with them, Mike and Will that are dressed as the Ghostbusters. Nancy gets drunk in a Halloween party and tells Steve that she does not love him, and Jonathan drives her home. Will has another vision of a monster in the Upside Down.

"Chapter Two: Trick or Treat, Freak" shows the Halloween night of the characters of "Stranger Things". The best segment is the episode of Will in the Upside Down and the mystery is the rotten pumpkins. My vote is eight.

The Evolution of El
Hitchcoc30 October 2017
If a show is to work, we need to care about the characters. The four guys genuinely care about each other. They have been through a lot, including a kidnapping and the death of a young girl. The sad thing is that they are constantly attacked for their nerdiness by their peers. The death of the young girl in the first season has made things so painful. It is also about the ruin a family that has hired an unscrupulous shyster private detective. Let's face it. He won't know anything about anything. Max becomes more of a factor. I assume the psychotic who drives her around is her brother. He is genuinely nuts and she is in danger from him. Obviously, he did something that got them to this hick town (his words). We see the kindness of Jonathan, who is probably the most mature, but also most maligned, character in this thing. But what will develop as the relationship between El and the protective police chief progresses. Will continues to see images of great threat. Tune in for Episode Three.

Another Enjoyable Episode
CatcHing-firE27 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This was another great episode to start the season. I feel like this episode focused a lot on addressing the aftermath of the previous season with many characters still pretty shaken up a year on.

I feel like Barbara's death and the amount of subsequent fan outpouring for justice to her characters death has blown up to the point where even in death her storyline is still going. I'm not sure if the writers and creators always intended to resolve her death or if it was influenced by fan response but if fan response had a part then I feel it's the most unnecessary subplot so far. Even in the first season we hardly spent much time with her so why we should spend time having a subplot for her now, I'm not sure.

Other Developments are becoming much more interesting. Adding Max to the group is sure to have repercussions later in the season as some ghostbusters are more welcoming than others. We still haven't gotten much to figure out her brother other than he's a pro drinker but I'm looking forward to see what develops.

Not quite as strong as the first episode, but still good
The first episode of the 2nd season was great. It expands a bit more on what happened in the first season while still providing some relatable characters and some good drama and suspense. Chapter Two: Trick or Treat, Freak isn't quite as strong as Chapter One: MADMAX, but it's still pretty good.

My only quibbles is that it does drag a bit slow in the pacing and while there is still some character development, there could've been more plot building since nothing else happens.

Everything else is great, however. The new characters, notably Max and Billy, her step brother, are well introduced and the others are still relatable. The music score still compliments the setting very well, the directing is great, and the visual effects continue to amuse particularly the trick or treating scene where Will hallucinates.

The acting is still great. Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour did a good job with each other, Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery (who played Jason the red ranger in the 2017 Power Rangers reboot) did admirable jobs as Max and Billy, Winona Ryder still does a good job as Joyce, and the others including Finn Wolfhard also did a good job.

Overall, not quite as strong as the first episode, but still good.

Proton packs on standby
BA_Harrison28 October 2017
It's Halloween and the Stranger Things gang—Will, Mike, Lucas and Dustin—go to school dressed as the Ghostbusters; unfortunately, they're the only ones in fancy dress, which makes them the subject of humiliation. Nevertheless, being in costume doesn't stop Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) from asking cool new girl Max (Sadie Sink) to join them trick or treating that evening.

Later that day, as the boys, accompanied by Max, collect tasty treats, Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Steve (Joe Keery) attend a party, but things don't go well for the couple.

Elsewhere in Hawkins, stranger things are afoot: pumpkin crops are suffering from an inexplicable blight, a group of scientists are exploring the upside-down, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is having flashbacks, and there is something strange in the neighbourhood, lurking in Dustin's trashcan to be more precise.

Despite moving at very gradual pace, Stranger Things continues to be thoroughly engrossing viewing, largely thanks to the likable characters, that all pervading '80s vibe (Motley Crüe rules!), and a script that drip feeds just enough information to keep the viewer hooked, pondering exactly what the hell is going on. I can see this is going to be another binge watch…

NB I may be wrong, but I'm going to call it now: I think that Sean Astin's character is up to no good.

joyride
alci35031 October 2017
This episode was one of the most emotional joyrides ever. One moment you are laughing hard, the other moment very surprised, one moment in love another moment most incredibly sad. I think even for a kid "eleven" is of the most talented actresses ever. I loved it, I wished these amazing episodes never ended.

A haunting on Halloween night
TheLittleSongbird3 August 2021
Season 2 started off quite well with "Chapter 1: Madmax", though it was also a bit of a let down after a strong first season. It served its purpose of setting things up for what's to come and introducing the chess pieces well, as well as progressing characterisation, but struck me as a little too slow and thinly plotted. But often good but not great or less season openers are followed by a big improvement in quality, so expectations were high for "Chapter Two: Trick or Treat Freak".

"Chapter Two: Trick or Treat Freak" is far from perfect and showed that there was still some way to go. It however is a better episode as it does very well on building upon what was introduced in "Madmax" and progressing it. On the whole quality-wise "Chapter Two: Trick or Treat Freak" is a very good episode, though not a Season 2 high point and nowhere near the standard of the best of Season 1 (the best being outstanding and true of about half the season).

It is still a little slow at times, especially in the taking too long to set up early portions. Other episodes have more suspense and surprises too.

However, there are a lot of things that "Chapter Two: Trick or Trick Freak" does between extremely well and brilliantly. The production values are typically very stylish and atmospheric, with some beautiful and unsettling images. The music is suitably haunting and nostalgic and the direction does well in creating enough tension when needed when things get going in the final act and also some breathing space also when needed.

Furthermore, the brains and heart present in all the previous episodes of 'Stranger Things' are here and very strongly. It's also less melodramatic than some episodes of the show. The story is at least coherent and while a long way from perfect in momentum it is not a tonal muddle, has some intrigue and some tension towards the end. There is more plot progression than in "Madmax" too. The character writing advances a good deal all round and the characters don't bore or frustrate. The acting is very good, with the younger cast faring better than the older ones (found this in a lot of episodes of 'Stranger Things').

Very good episode that indicates a lot of potential for Season 2. 8/10.

Trick or Treat, Freak
bobcobb30129 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Focusing on the younger kids and their fun Halloween night was a smart move. Max is already proving to be a great addition to the show and another female character was needed.

The Nancy and Steve stuff is painful though. I feel bad for the older characters because they try their best, but there just is not much interest in what they are doing.

Crazy Together
amongpixels15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first half of the episode is largely more "catch-up" storytelling which, while good, isn't quite as engaging as much of the first season as it just leaves me wanting to see the story progress into new areas. However, the humour is fun, the childhood/teenage/Halloween spirit is perfectly captured and relatable (particularly how juvenile teenage parties seem once you've outgrown them), Bob continues to be a likeable addition to the cast, Max slowly grew on me by the end, and the final act of the episode is incredibly impactful in its execution (the score, the heart-to-heart scene between Will and Mike, Nancy's incredibly realistic drunk breakdown, and Eleven trying to contact Mike are all emotionally powerful scenes, solidifying these characters and their traumatic drama for this season). Also, shame on Jonathan for not knowing Siouxsie Sue!

Chapter Two: Trick or Treat, Freak (#2.2)
ComedyFan201019 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Not too much is happening in this episode either. But I guess they are getting us ready for it with Will's episodes. His scary moment during trick or treating was really good. Although I believe I just kept on worrying that he will not take Jonathan's camera back home. Eleven with her learning words and "promise" bs really gets on my nerves. Somehow I really don't like that character and the actress. Max's brother is a bad guy, let's see what they will make with him in the story.

Another overrated episode!!
jgkamunye7 November 2017
I don't understand why people are overrating this first two episodes. If there is something i loved about this show was the extended plot taking a unique mystery of a story line.So far, this season is taking the same turn as teen wolf. The mystery is just one which is just a repeated scene throughout the two episodes.I m used to seeing this nonsense.I hope they are building a great plot which may take us as a surprise otherwise I will actually get tedious of the same old things!! 5/10

Everyone is isolated
TheDonaldofDoom5 November 2017
This episode's title at first thought applies to Will, because after all it's him that the line of dialogue to spoken to. But in reality, it could be stretched to apply to most of the cast, who are isolated in some way or don't fit in. Apart from the obvious one being Will, Eleven also feels isolated, as she has to stay cut off from society in Hopper's place. She can't even speak to Mike, although she tries to. Nancy is struggling to fit back into normal life after the previous season's events leading to Barb's tragic ending. Meanwhile, John is literally a freak in many people's eyes. Then there's Max. We don't really know who she is yet, but she definitely doesn't fit in, nor does she seem to want to.

There weren't many major events in this episode and the alien threat of this season wasn't developed much further, but it gave further insight into the characters that made it gripping, and sad, to watch.

Season 2 is really good, so far
funnycommentor6 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, the plot of the 2nd episode (season 2) was nice. The storyline was nice, so far. I have to admit that season 2 isn't as intense as season 1 nor very interesting. But, of course I really like it. The characters development keep getting better and better. Gladly, Steve has changed to a better person. Nancy, seems like she doesn't really like Steve, I think they're gonna break up. Mike, he's kinda annoying. Will, doesn't really look that he's okay. Max, she's a very interesting character and likeable. Billy, her stepbrother he's so annoying and totally unlikable. Eleven, has a great development and I hope she's gonna be able to leave the house sometime! Overall, season 2 is way scarier (especially, Will's visions).

you know what!??
kaagazkalam29 November 2017
ST couldn't get better than this.

ST is a throwback to the 80's sci-fi nostalgia on the lines of 'Goonies', 'Gremlins', or the 21'st century homage to the 80's:'Super-8' and the hardcore ghostbuster fan in you. You miss someone or you wanna pour your heart out to a complete stranger (who has been your 'lover' for life?) then this is the episode for you.

This review doesn't make any sense to you unless you watch it unrestrained without any filters.

Happy nostalgia ☻

Tree Rat Splat

I would have to say that my favorite part is when Eleven makes the squirrel splat against the tree. I laughed. I wouldn't have eaten it, though. Tree rats carry diseases.

Warning: Spoilers
We know more about how Eleven survived. And Eleven want to participate to hallooween. Nancy want to tell the truth to Barbara's parents. Eleven try to reach Mike. And dustin find a strange thing in his room. Still interesting: the mysteries are still there and we keep wondering how it will end.

Halloween Night
Samuel-Shovel29 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In Chapter 2, we get a flashback sequence detailing what happened to Eleven after the finale of Season 1. Meanwhile, Hopper investigates why all the pumpkin crops in town have rotted overnight. The boys plan their trick-or-treating night and Dustin & Lucas attempt to befriend Max. Nancy and Steve go to a party but Nancy is so distraught over the upcoming anniversary of Barb's death that she gets absolutely wasted.

So far in Season 2, most of the characters seem to still be coping with the events of Season 1. There hasn't been too much plot develop to any type of new storyline. Nancy is still coping, Will is still having flashbacks, Mike still misses Eleven. This is all fine but I'd like to see some type of further development beyond this. We're picking this story back up almost a year later. We need some kind of extension to push us forward. Hopefully this comes soon because so far, these first two episodes have been average at best.

Construction episode
gianmarcoronconi4 July 2022
Episode still of construction of the plot for the season with the vision of the one who will be the enemy and the presentation of the new characters of which one it is obvious that he will remain for a long time becoming a member of the group of friends, as the first episode is also enjoyable being still under construction.

A Captivating, Yet Lackluster Episode
lbrosprod1 November 2017
I enjoyed this episode quite a bit! The character development is still there. I love the further developments, as well as the world building. The only thing that I was a little off put by was that it went as slow as episode one (which was an episode I loved, by the way). It could have brought forth more plot building, but I did feel like everything that was shown will probably be necessary for the rest of the season. I've noticed that there's a lot more swearing, too. That didn't bother me too much, though.

Warning: Spoilers
Eleven wants to go trick-or-treating but the cop doesn't want to risk her safety. She comes out covered in a white cloth scaring the cop. The cop asks her to compromise - he will buy a ton of candy and they can sit in front of the TV and get fat.

Will's mom looks beautiful - she looks happy and in love. She has her hair and makeup done.

The sister of one of the boys and her boyfriend go to a party where there is dancing, a couple making out, keg stand, mysterious drinks.

The cop goes to investigate destroyed pumpkins at farms.

The girl gets too drunk and her bf tries to get her to stop. She spills the drink and gets mad at her bf. Jonathan takes her home and lays her on her bed.

The cop comes home late and hilariously tries to tempt El out saying he is going to get fat and she needs to come out to help him be healthy. He might get a heart attack he says, lol.

S2.E2 - Better than Ep.01 [9/10]
panagiotis19933 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(S2. E2) My Live Reaction / Review for Stranger Things Season 2 Episode 2 ''Chapter Two: Trick or Treat, Freak''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 8/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Im so glad Eleven is back. The gang has super cool ghostbusters suits but nobody else wears costumes at the school, whats going on? Who poisoned the pumpkins and why? Makes no sense. Will keeps having these dream-like visions and I don't understand why. Is it PTSD or something more? Will has such a bad haircut, its like he is wearing a bowl, lol. Jonathan is still in the friendzone. I cant wait for Mike to meet El again. Overall this episode was good and I enjoyed it. My rating is 9/10.
