In addition to Academy Award winner, Reese Witherspoon can add the utmost honor of becoming the first best actress Oscar winner to deliver a bedtime story for British kindergartners.
Witherspoon is set to read a children’s book for BBC children’s channel CBeebies, which targets kids aged six and under. The “Morning Show” star will read “Extraordinary” by Penny Harrison.
The CBeebies gig is especially on brand for Witherspoon, who’s something of a bibliophile herself. Through her production company Hello Sunshine, she launched Reese’s Book Club, which is curated by the actor and selects a book each month. The club has 2.2 million followers on Instagram.
“Extraordinary,” illustrated by Katie Wilson, shows how you can discover beautiful and wonderful things, wherever you look — if you just look closely enough.
Opening the story, Witherspoon reads: “Sometimes, when we’re busy, it can be hard to find time to notice the world around us.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas was filled with song as the Roku Channel movie delivered several holiday tunes, a Taylor Swift number and even a rendition of “Call Me Maybe” by Mary Steenburgen.
But one of the most memorable musical moments came courtesy of a face-off, of sorts, when Max crooned “Just the Two of Us,” while Zoey countered with a high-energy performance of “We Need a Little Christmas.” The intricate, zany hand choreography during Zoey’s half of the mashup is made even more impressive by the fact that star Jane Levy had very little time to learn the moves.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas certainly gifted “Clarkeman” ‘shippers with an early holiday present.
The Roku Channel movie found Max adapting to his new power with ease as he boasted about helping numerous people. But when he heard Zoey, Maggie, David and Emily sing an emotionally raw heart song in Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here,” Max finally understood the weight of his ability. Having invited a potential suitor for Maggie to Christmas Eve dinner, Max felt responsible for the pain in the family’s voices as they sang the tender number. NBC pulled the plug on the musical comedy series "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist" earlier this year, but fans of the dearly departed show won't be left completely hanging: while it will be on a totally different network, a Christmas movie is coming out soon to presumably wrap things up for good. Now there's a trailer which showcases Zoey's desire to deck her halls for an old-fashioned family holiday celebration. But like "Christmas Vacation" protagonist Clark Griswold and so many other good-natured holiday lovers before her, she quickly gets in over her head and realizes that a big, family-spanning gathering is more stressful to achieve than it appears.

If you are an Oscars/film fanatic who wants to get into the Grammys, the visual media field is a good place to start. Honoring the best scores, soundtracks, and songs made for TV, film, and even video games, the field has awarded some iconic movie music, with past winners ranging from Disney’s “The Lion King” to “The Social Network” score to Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” from “A Star is Born.” Let’s take a look at this year’s contenders for these awards in media music.

Good news for prospective writers and producers across Europe, with Disney+ revealing today the extent of its ambition when it comes to original programming in the region, aiming for a staggering 50 productions each year by 2024.
Following the success of Disney’s streaming service over the past 18 months – to the tune of 116 million global subscribers – Liam Keelan, Disney’s VP Original Production, Emea, admitted the platform had exceeded all expectations. He reflected during a session at the Edinburgh TV Festival: “It was one of the few benefits of Covid. We had that captive audience and it helped people out with young kids during lockdown.”
Keelan left BBC Studios’ scripted division in 2019 and joined Disney last year for this newly created role. He oversees commissioning across its linear channels and on streaming service Disney+.

“Good Girls” has been canceled after four seasons at NBC, Variety has learned.
The drama series was the last remaining question mark in NBC’s scripted lineup from the 2020-2021 season. The broadcaster also recently axed the dramas “Manifest,” “Debris,” and “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.” Like “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” and “Manifest,” there had been talks about finding “Good Girls” a new home on a streaming platform, but that move ultimately did not work financially.
There are five episodes remaining of “Good Girls” Season 4, with the show airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. Et. In the season, the Secret Service closes in the main characters’ counterfeit ring. Beth (Christina Hendricks) was struggling to carve out her own criminal path separate from Rio (Manny Montana), using her husband’s spa company, Boland Bubbles, as a front. Ruby (Retta) seemed to have salvaged her marriage after a rocky road, but only time will...

The NBC musical dramedy “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” has played its last heart song – but not if the show’s cast, crew and loyal fans have anything to say about it.
On Wednesday, it was announced that “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” would not be returning for a third season but that that NBCUniversal plans to shop it to other outlets. Peacock, NBC’s sister streaming service, has already passed.
However, show creator Austin Winsberg is not going down without a fight. He took to Twitter on Wednesday to not just confirm the sad news but to mobilize “Zoey” fans to help save the show.
“Right now I refuse to believe the show is dead,” Winsberg wrote, “There is too much love and goodwill and the fan base is incredible.”
“I believe we can have a real chance somewhere else,” he continued, “But the more fan support we can throw behind it-the better.

Lionsgate Television, which co-produces with Universal Television the Austin Winsberg series, revealed that it will not move on at NBC after two seasons. The studio will mount an aggressive effort to find another home for the show outside NBCUniversal.
The sophomore season came to an end with a cliffhanger and a surprise heart song. Upon learning of the cancellation at NBC Winsberg addressed his passionate fan base to help keep the series going.

CBS and ABC tied for first in ratings, both with a 0.6 rating/4 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. CBS was first in total viewers with an average of 6.3 million, according to preliminary numbers. ABC was second with 4.7 million total viewers. For CBS, “60 Minutes” at 7 p.m. drew a 0.5/4 and 7.6 million total viewers.

Certainly one of the most unusual shows currently on network television, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is at times a buoyant musical full of dance and song and romance and all sorts of complex life experiences for the title character, who hears other people’s thoughts – musically – in her head. But initially it came from family sadness for creator Austin Winsberg, who joined executive producer Paul Feig and star Jane Levy on NBC’s panel for the show at Deadline’s Contenders Television award-season event to talk about how it came about and how it is progressing through Season 2 after nabbing an Emmy for Mandy Moore’s choreography in Season 1.
“It came from a place of my father passed away from this rare neurological disease called progressive supranuclear palsy. For the last six months that he was alive he couldn’t speak, he couldn’t move very much. He could kind...

Networks are currently weighing up the positives and negatives of its remaining crop of shows on the bubble.
There's now word that two NBC shows could be headed for cancellation, but that they could get a second life in the world of streaming.
Zoey's Extraordinary has never been a big on-air performer, with its second season currently averaging 1.9 million viewers and a 0.36 rating in the demo.
But the series is strong on streaming, has critical acclaim, and is doing well on the awards front, so there is a desire to keep it going.
Deadline is reporting that while the future is in doubt for Zoey, NBC is looking at potentially moving it to NBCUniversal streaming service, Peacock.
The move would be welcome for fans because it means it would be away from broadcast and have a more permanent home, but such a move would require a lot of wheeling and dealing.

Out of all the new shows from 2020 to fall in love with, it seemed very likely Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist would fall into the sophomore slump.
So far, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 2 is confirming those fears.
Mitch and Joan's departures begin the trail of reasons for the slump, as this sophomore series can't make up for their significant losses.
The quirky premise of a woman possessing the ability to hear everyone's innermost desire via song piqued enough interest to check out Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist.
However, it didn't seem like the show was living up to its title until the end of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 1 Episode 1, when Zoey realized she could use her newfound powers to talk to her ill father, Mitch.
Who cared about the Max/Zoey/Simon triangle? The storylines revolving around Mitch's illness and the show's thoughtful, heartbreaking exploration of grief were what kept many watching.

“The Flight Attendant” has truly taken flight in our Golden Globe odds. Kaley Cuoco has already crashed the Best TV Comedy/Musical Actress top five and moved up to third place over the weekend. And while the HBO Max series has not yet entered the Best Comedy/Musical Series top five, sitting in sixth place, don’t be surprised if it happens soon or if it shows up on nomination morning.
The series trails a predicted lineup topped by Emmy champ “Schitt’s Creek,” followed by “The Great,” “Ted Lasso,” “Ramy” and “What We Do in the Shadows.” But “The Flight Attendant” has a couple advantages over each and every one of them.
For starters, it’s the newest show of the six. In fact, it’s the newest one of the entire top 10, which includes “Insecure,” “Dead to Me,” “Pen15” and “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.” And we all know how...

If you were looking forward to having more Joan on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 2, we have some bad news.
Lauren Graham announced ahead of the premiere of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 2 Episode 1 that she was no longer a cast member of the show.
"Please watch the first episode of @ZoeysPlaylist tonight! Joan is only there for a wee moment (plans to do more thwarted by pandemic-related scheduling issues), but I'm so excited to watch the incredible @jcolburnlevy and company. xL," Graham tweeted.
The news is unfortunate, but it all came down to scheduling issues brought on by the pandemic because the actress is signed on as a series regular for the Disney+ series, The Mighty Ducks.
Showr creator Austin Winsberg reflected on Graham being written out of the sophomore run of the NBC musical comedy in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
"I would have loved to have had more of her in season two.

How is it that a show steeped in magical realism consistently manages to deliver some of the most authentic and realistic portrayals of humanity on television?
Even in the midst of a pandemic, the show beautifully captured the grief and loneliness and overwhelmingness of the world we find ourselves living in without even uttering the words coronavirus or Covid-19?
It's a true testament to the series' power, and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 2 Episode 1 was no exception.
Picking up six weeks after Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 1 Episode 12, the season premiere deals with Zoey adjusting to the many changes that have happened since Mitch's death.
Having spent the past month and a half-hidden out in Maggie's house, dealing with her internalized grief, Zoey emerges to find her friends, colleagues, and workplace in a state of flux.
Zoey: Avoidance has been a glorious thing. Allowed me not to deal with anyone or anything.

NBC is unveiling it s midseason rollout plan, and there's some bad news out of the gate.
New Amsterdam and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are not on the schedule, meaning their chances of returning in the first quarter of 2021 are slim.
Both shows have not aired this season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced production on both shows to be delayed.
Fans of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist will be happy to know that the series is getting a new night and time for its second season.

The problem with main characters is that there’s so much pressure placed on them to be likable.
Sometimes the added pressure works in a character's favor, but other times, the extra attention turns what could have been an admirable lead into one that either falls flat or appears too overdeveloped.
That's rarely the case with sidekicks as they are quite literally created with the intention of propping up said main character
Now, that isn't to say the role of a sidekick is easy; their job is especially difficult as they bear a handful of responsibilities. They’re known as supporting and secondary characters that assist the main character, break the ice in tense situations using comedic relief, give advice, and clean up messes.
They also have the ability to raise the stakes of a show without outshining the lead.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist could have just been a heartfelt show about a Silicon Valley-based coder (Jane Levy) who finds herself in a love triangle at work while struggling to come to terms with her father's illness and the loss that she'll eventually have to experience. But the NBC series took on the, well, extraordinary challenge of also being a musical, requiring more than 80 song-and-dance numbers performed by Levy and the cast, which includes Skylar Astin, Lauren Graham, Mary Steenburgen and Peter Gallagher.

Mae Whitman and Jane Levy, who met via mutual friends on a night out at Los Feliz mainstay the Dresden, have shared many adventures as best friends of eight years, and in February they became neighbors (on NBC's Sunday night lineup, that is) as Levy's musical dramedy Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist led into the third-season premiere of Whitman's Good Girls. The new seasons of their shows involved major challenges for both: Levy, 30, performed six musical numbers in a single 42-minute episode, while former child star Whitman, 31, was planning to direct for the first time (though her ...

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is coming back for a second season! On Thursday, NBC announced that the musical drama has been renewed. "We were overwhelmed by the number of people who fell in love with Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and how much joy it brought to everyone," Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of scripted programming at NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. "We're thrilled to bring it back and can't wait to see how Zoey's journey continues."
After cheering us up with flashy musical numbers and choreography, the season one finale ends on a more somber note as Zoey says goodbye to her father Mitch, who dies from a rare degenerative brain disease called progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). With everything that happens in the episode (including Zoey finally choosing between Max and Simon), we're all eager to see how the story plays out in a potential season two.

NBC has ordered a second season of musical dramedy Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist starring Jane Levy. We hear the order is for 13 episodes.
A co-production between Lionsgate TV and Universal TV, the series had been considered the strongest contender among NBC’s bubble shows this season. It has a passionate following and recently topped USA Today’s annual Save Our Shows poll with record support.
Of the other NBC bubble series, the network this week canceled Lincoln Rhyme: The Hunt for the Bone Collector and Perfect Harmony. Manifest is still very much in contention as NBC and producer Warner Bros. TV are discussing a deal, while Indebted is not expected to continue.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has been a digital phenom with huge online/social media following whose very modest Live+Same Day linear ratings are dwarfed by its delayed multi-platform numbers. It is one of NBC’s strongest digital performers,...
