Mamamia sigh
MikeHunt107529 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Mommy had twins. One was baby Sloth. She cared for her babies. Daddy turns out to be gay.

Where's the dark humor? Let alone the humor at all? This movie tried to be serios and failed, so they tried to call the lame puppet and effects "dark comedy" (klaxxon sound)

Overall; far from saying it's a terrible movie, but also just as far from recommending watching it either. It's just a meh.

Meh, see it if it interests you, but meh, you won't kick yourself if you never do.

Just plain weird
kyleallencole99 July 2019
I dont know what to say about this one. The storyline was strange and all over the place. Bill Mosesly was a whacko nut in this, but the scenes with him in it didnt really fit in with the movie. However the wild film did have a creepy and unsettling vibe to it.

Poor acting.
heva-0627524 June 2022
Very poorly acted, the couple was annoying me from the first 5 seconds. Carried on watching just to see what happens.

Do not recommend.

Don't believe the other reviews, it's a waste of time!

WTF did I just watch, one of the worst films I've ever seen. In fact I turned it off before the end as it was just terrible, honestly don't waste your time.

A bit hammy
mrmgarnham12 June 2022
A tongue in cheek horror starring Scout Taylor Compton. When Sid Haig is in it you know it's going to be crazy. Some of the editing and directing is bad and the (actual) porn stars' moment is pointless but overall an ok film.

Great Movie, campy fun! (some mild spoilers)
Fuzzylumkin12 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so this movie had everything in it: a great cast including multiple actors from Rob Zombie's movies, gratuitousness sex scenes (you know that's half the reason you watch horror movies!!) campy monsters, and really good funny scenes. What turned me on about the movie is that it is made by Girls & Corpses and one of the actresses in the film, this is her first mainstream movie, so that was what put it on the radar for me. Seeing Rufus from Devil's Rejects, dressed like a homeless woman totally sold me on it however!!

This movie takes from the old school style of perspective of the creature, not letting you see what it really is until way later, which is a great way to build the suspense instead of blowing it super early. The acting was great, the movie didn't feel cheap or low budget. I personally hope to see a lot more out of Girls & Corpses in the future!!

A return to the 70's and 80's VHS days of fun cheese ball comedy/horror.
Michael_Takes7 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Cynthia (2018) is reminiscent to the 1974 movie It's Alive and it's sequels.

The movie begins with a couple, Robin and Michael, trying desperately to have a baby. They are approaching 30 and have been trying for a few years, at great financial and emotional cost. Now using cheaper Asian substitute IVF and fertilisation drugs/injections the couple finally become pregnant.

A small issues leads to Robin needing a minor surgery to remove a cyst or tumour like mass, which leads to the viewer to understand that Robin is having some weird nightmares! To further complicate Robins life, she begins to think that Michael is having an affair, as Michael becomes more and more distant, coming home late.

The birth is a C-section, where a massive cyst is removed after the baby. Immediately we see whatever was within the cyst start to kill. We see through the eye of the creature, as it moves around, following Robin, Michael and their new baby Samantha home. (As the new family leaves the hospital, we here meet Bill Moseley's brilliantly bizarre cameo character, Buttercup, as a homeless transvestite).

The murder of a visitor to the home, leads to Michael confessing that he is gay and is having an affair. After throwing Michael out, Robin falls asleep. Waking to find Samantha missing, Robin follows Samantha's cries into the air conditioning ducting in the walls, where we find out what the cyst really was, a deformed child, Samantha's twin, which Robin accepts lovingly.

Just days prior to the court case to determine custody, Michael returns to their home to find it a pigsty. Dirty nappies on the floor, dishes everywhere, Michael and his partner Randy, an Australian, have come for Samantha's birthday party. We find Robin completely different to her former self. As Michael and Randy take photos to show the judge at the custody hearing they enter a baby's room, however one that is absolutely filthy. As they search the room they come across Robin's baby book, that talks of how Samantha and Cynthia have been progressing as infants. Robin locks them in, where they are attacked by Cynthia.

The ending is a bit disappointing, especially how Sid Haig's character behaves with the kids when alone, but he gets what's coming to him.

Reminiscent to movies like 'It's Alive, CHUD, and Critters', this movie succeeds because of some very bizarre scenes of violence and insanity (such as Robin's dream scenes, and the birthday party and fight in the ball pit), some terrific performances and lines of dialogue delivered perfectly by Randy (James WIlliam O'Halloran), Michael (Kyle Jones), Detective Edwards (Sid Haig), Robin's sister Jane (Rebecca Marshall), and Buttercup (Bill Moseley), and the understated performance of Scout Taylor-Compton and her transformation from devoted spouse and mother to be, to a single mother of 2 who'd do anything to protect her children.

Fans of horror comedies will enjoy this movie, just remember this is not a traditional horror movie, rather a call back to the VHS days of cheap horror movies as silly escapism.

It's Alive! A Pleasant Surprise.
influxtwo7 October 2018
I am going to give this a 9 out of 10. First of all I am a fan of Scout Taylor Compton, Sid Haig, & Bill Moseley. I'm not a fan of babies or children I admit so I didn't expect to care for this. However, I loved it. Right from the beginning to the very end I was hooked. It was much better than I was expecting. There's not too much gushy baby crap to bog it down. It really cuts to the punch of the comedy and horror value fairly nicely and well paced. Scout Taylor Compton was a great lead and this is one of her best new roles where she had a character who was a little more fleshed out than she has had in a little while now in horror and it was great to see her walk the tight rope of comedy satire and horror. It's a genre hybrid she is a natural in. I loved the satire of the script, it gave you those dry bitter snicker kind of giggles where you know the writer's sense of humor is vivid and wild yet somewhat restrained so that it's compelling right off the bat. The acting was much better than I was expecting, with not too many weak links. You could tell this was a passion project and not just bad actors reading lines. It was a blessing that they mostly used practical creature effects for the title character, Cynthia. They did a lot of things right here. It is in the family of horror comedy that you seldom see anymore. It is FOR fans of horror comedy. It is not confused with it's genre, and I'm glad the film was self aware enough to walk that tight line. It reminded me a bit of films in the vein of Basket Case (1982) It's Alive (1974), Bad Milo (2013). I wish there had been more gore. There was certainly gore to be had, but had there been more over the top, it would have bounced this film to a whole new level in the genre. All in all a treat for fans of horror comedy or fans of the acting/directing trio involved. The end was a bit shaky and loses a little bit of that control it has in the beginning but not enough to damper the experience. I just wish the music during the cynthia bedroom scene was more audible and over the top in either an overly jokey terrifying way or a silly quirky way. And the Cynthia sound effects needed a bit more character, screeches or growls to make it all more intense. In other words i was expecting the end to become over the top madness, gore etc like the first half of the film was headed and it was slightly underwhelming instead, though still enjoyable. It would be a shame if the horror community doesn't grab a hold of this and give it the recognition it deserves, so that is why I felt compelled to write a review. I actually hope there's a sequel lol! And if the director or writer is reading this, take it all over the top. Let Cynthia evolve in to the agile fierce killing machine she deserves to be. Let this be more over the top like Peter Jackson's Dead Alive baby scenes. Lol. You got this.

Just what I hoped for!
danbenton29 September 2018
I loved this movie! As the saying goes, "For those who like this sort of thing, it's just the sort of thing they like." And I am that sort. The story was fresh and clever, and very timely. The twist in the relationship between husband and wife came from left field -- I had no idea is was coming and it hit like a funny bomb. The suspense of the baby (?!?!) rampaging had me laughing and at the edge of my seat. I totally recommend Cynthia as a great pizza night for frats, gals, as well as couples!!!!

Cynthia delivers!
jdrhine2729 September 2018
With a killer cast of horror alums Scout Taylor-Compton, Sid Haig and Bill Moseley, Cynthia is both funny and chilling. The baby monster is a frightening combination of pathos and putrid. Directors Kenny Gage and Devon Downs really nailed the tension and pace. It is very professionally shot with great camera work and effects by Mario Torres, who did an amazing job. And contrary to those who want to trash the acting here, they are all veterans who are at the top of their craft. I mean come on!... Sid Haig and Bill Moseley from The Devils Rejects! And Robert LaSardo from like, everything, and Scout Taylor-Compton who is amazing and starred in Rob Zombie's Halloween. I think the low scores are from trolls who clearly did not watch the film or are just haters. One note, I wouldn't recommend this film or pregnant women, lol. Yikes!

Throwback to 80's Campy Horror
theronman71420 October 2018
When I found out that Corpsy (Robert Rhine) was making a horror film, I was excited. Cynthia is pretty much everything I was expecting, and then some. It was funny, it was gory, it was disgusting, it was awesome. And then there's Cynthia. What a sweet baby. Lol. As another reviewer said, pregnant women should not watch this movie. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is Bill Moseley's. OMG. When you see it, you'll know what I'm talking about. It was great to see him, Sid Haig and James Karen.

shockwaves-7120330 September 2018
Great, fun movie combining humor and gore. It's rare in this age of PC culture to find new movies like this with an amusing yet raunchy tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. Very well done and brilliantly directed by Devon and Kenny.

Cynthia is adorably addictive.
wan-maness30 September 2018
Cynthia was a pleasant surprise in a current trend of horror movies wanting to recreate Stranger Things era scenes,Along comes Cynthia who is a breath of fresh air! Based in modern day Cynthia creates suspense and comedy all rolled into one fantastic film. The film keeps you guessing for a bit about what Cynthia will look like but when you finally meet her you are hard pressed not to look at her as a villian character but instead fall for her and feel emotion for her misunderstood life she was given.I wish we had a few more scenes with Cynthia I can always hope for part 2 for more involvement with horrors new poster girl ! DC Moore

Warning: Spoilers
This movie has it all! Gore and humor and suspense. A couple with fertility problems is able to finally conceive but its not all good news- there's a monster baby (who is actually sweet, she just likes the taste of people)! The film is about the choices the couple makes when they find out the truth. Bill Moseley has a brief but unforgettable cameo as a crazy lady in my favorite scene in the movie. Robert Rhine is always hilarious as the doctor. There's some pretty gross stuff in this movie which I loved and the makeup was great. Although this was no multi million dollar Hollywood extravaganza it was filmed edited acted and directed perfectly so that at no point will you think its just another low budget film. Another hilarious and unexpected cameo comes from Lynn Lowry, who is briefly hired to be a nanny for the monster baby. Spoiler alert- she doesn't last long. The birth scene is a classic and the film reminded me of a modern It's Alive! Quirky, funny, original, gory at times, and a lot of fun to watch. Definitely recommended!

How could this be better?
badass-177-59525330 September 2018
The story is sweet and relatable, you love the main characters, the acting talent is top notch, you have amazing cameos from some true horror legends, gorgeous cinematography, powerful suspense throughout, quality special effects, and in the end it's a relatable story about a young mother's love. How could this be better?

Surprised how great this film is!
jeffleroy-597-15194710 February 2019
A friend told me that I had to watch this movie. I was really pleasantly surprised and I watched the film with a group of friends who really dug it, too. A fun popcorn movie with both laughs and scares. I am a big Devil's Rejects FAn and it was great to see Bill Moseley and Sid Haig together again in these roles. Sid plays a detective amazingly. I don't want to spoil Moseley's crazy part, but it's worth renting this for that scene alone. And James Karen (Return of the Living Dead) has a small cameo. I found out this was his last role. Scout Taylor Compton shows her acting chops. Highly recommended!!

A fun throwback to the drive-in horror movies I loved as a kid
metermaid-433946 November 2018
When real-life horrors are in the news every day, how do you make horror entertaining? You make it funny. With a great cast and excellent cinematography, the story is full of suspense and, unexpected twists. It's actually poignant when it shows the depth of its crazed mom's compulsion to have children and her devotion to her offspring. Great job on the effects and baby creature, too.

Campy, gory horror
aeromeggy13 October 2018
Cynthia is an over the top, gory movie that is funny as well. It's not particularly scary, but if you like blood, guts and gross this movie is for you. Plus it has horror legends Bill Moseley and Sig Haig...what more could you want? Seriously, if you are a fan of all things horror you won't be disappointed.

Campy B-Movie Horror Film Fun!
icocleric6 April 2022
It had a very campy B-Movie vibe, but I absolutely loved that about it. It was fun, it had ridiculous death scenes with really amusing gore. Especially during one sex scene, I literally laughed out loud.

Some of the death scenes are really over the top in a really fun way. If you like this kind of film, it's really well done too. The acting is decent, and the quality looks decent. I really enjoyed this film and it was better than I expected.

Cynthia is sweet underneath all that murder!

Awesome Creature Feature!
drahulrajjsd2 August 2023
Cynthia is an awesome creature feature horror comedy with amazing special effects written and produced by Girls and Corpses founder and president, Robert Rhine... It's funny, violent and very entertaining... I really loved watching our Horror Hero Captain Spaulding himself, the late, great Sid Haig playing a detective... Also really cool to see Robert Lasardo and a sweet cameo from Horror Icon Bill Moseley... It also features Scout Taylor-Compton, Lynn Lowry and Robert Rhine... If you're looking for some really entertaining horror with great horror stars and legends in it, this one is it... This is also from the directors who brought you Anarchy Parlor back in 2015 with Robert Lasardo...

I recommend it!!
ashleydepp4 September 2020
Funny, a little sad and some gore mixed in. Enjoyed this film as it was an entertaining watch. Big Sid Haig fan and Bill Moseley makes an appearance as well. Sid Haig does fantastic in this movie as a detective (his first time playing as one); his performance is great in anything he does. This is certainly not a movie to be taken too seriously and should considered just a fun watch. Rebecca Marshall is entertaining as the sister and the scenes she has with Sid Haig are hilarious. I recommend this to anyone in the mood for a funny horror film.
