High expectations; low pay off
sldcrst-711036 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the 2007 movie and am an avid Stephen King fan. When I heard Spike was taking a crack at it I was really excited!

20 minutes in we have a great creature throwback, but we also have stereotypical gender queer kid and his closed minded father partnered with the main character's daughter off to a party. Her mother recently fired as a teacher for teaching sex ed in school outside of the approved curriculum (the stand up for free thought hero who also forbids her daughter from going to a party, the uptight parent). Her father encourages her to go as long as she takes the queer kid who says he could "fall for a guy or a girl" since he doesn't "fall for gender". Said daughter drinks in a cautionary tale leading to her rape.

Honestly it felt like every broad stroke trope was thrown against the wall and whatever stuck made the script.

I checked out about 30 minutes in gagging on what passes for "character development".

Maybe I'll take another crack at it when I feel like being preached at by a lazy writer.

Pilot

Warning: Spoilers
This may not be something we haven't seen before, but it was an enjoyable start to the series. The beginning of the episode had a Stranger Things meets Haven/a lot of other Stephen King shows, but once we got to the mist we saw a lot of familiar supernatural elements.

The high school stuff, and crazy woman chasing something, it is intriguing. Once the mist happened it got kind of ridiculous, but you have to expect that given the premise.

Overall I was entertained and plan to keep watching.

Has Christian Torpe met any real people?
ahdiscordia16 November 2017
The characters are caricatures, of tropes. The writer displayed disgust with heterosexual roles that are often portrayed as "macho". Cops, football players were high strung, rape culture exaggerations, that appeared on the verge of a "roid rage". At the same time, the writer tried to make sure the only male character who is above reproach, is a gay caricature. His attempt at showing that even the main characters have flaws, made them un-likable, cutting off viewers from connecting with them at all.

Worst Show I've Ever Watched

Warning: Spoilers
As a Stephen King fan, I'm flabbergasted. Did Torpe even read Steohen King's story? No monsters, terrible acting, nonsensical storyline. I cheered when it was over. It's like watching a train wreck and not being able to look away. Just awful.

A different story
newpapyrus23 June 2017
This is not the Mist from Stephen King's novella. Nor is it similar to the classic movie. Its something different. But so fare its very good! Realistic characters are introduced in this story about a small New England community that is already dealing with its own social problems. But now a mysterious mist is gradually moving from the hills towards the town with its own menacing and nightmarish aspects.

People expecting this version of the Mist to-- simply be a repeat-- of the movie, may be disappointed. But, so far, I find the story and the characters to be very interesting. And I can't wait for the next episodes.

Hopefully, they will be just as good!

Terrible
djac132 June 2018
Most characters (except for one, who plays the chicken little) are unlikeable in this poorly written show that follows bad TV trope storylines. I enjoyed the original story and movie but struggled to finish this one episode.
