We're all a part of it...
Forca8425 July 2019
Alright... First off it's a modesty budgeted show. This isn't a knock against it. The special effects are pretty good given the show's constraints. It's not really fair to compare it to "American Horror Story" or "Black Mirror". It has some violence. But not on the level of other similar shows.

I enjoyed the first two chapters. Especially "Rideshare" which utilizes Julie Benz's unique voice. "Chapter 2" was also very solid. The more I watched it the more I enjoyed it. I could see the show expanding if it gets a season 2. Using the internet as a framing device is interesting. Also I think it's pretty silly to bemoan the show because it's not a documentary on the Dark web.

I've seen some truly awful horror anthology films and episodes. I'm going to give credit where it's due. The acting is mostly solid. Once in awhile the dialogue doesn't quite sound convincing. But I'll cut it some slack as it's only the first season...

Overall despite it's limitations I still enjoyed the show. Interested to see where the plot would go if it's given a 2nd season. Emotionally I connected with it. Give it a chance.

Nothing at all like black mirror
natcalgary18 October 2020
So many reviewers comparing to black mirror. This is nothing at all like that show. This starts good and then mid way through the season it turns into something a 13 year old would watch. The writing and acting also represent that.

Don't get me wrong,, it is not bad.. but not great either,

Starts good and then works its way downhill
adaptor25 January 2021
I really liked the first few episodes. It's start off as a testament to how good something can be without a bunch of big names and a big budget behind it. Unfortunately, it starts to devolve and became more generic and ultimately finishes with a "pfft". I don't know why that happened.

Bad, its bad. Just bad

Really bad, like omg bad. Doesn't make sense. Tons of inconsistencies. Episode 2 especially. Ummm... last I checked sensationalization increases views not decreases. Do not watch.

Decent little anthology series with a sci-fi/horror slant
Sci-fan3141529 August 2019
Maybe not startlingly original for most long-time sci-fi/horror fans with shades of Twilight Zone and Outer Limits among others plus maybe a sprinkling of some well known urban legends but the stories are well told and well acted with several taking on elements of our current culture in new ways. As a nice added bonus there are a few faces (and one voice ;) to gladden the heart of any Buffy fans watching. And unusually for this sort of anthology series, the framing story held my interest as well or better than the episodic stuff, particularly as the show went on.

It's clearly made with not a lot of money and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the locations are houses of friends or relatives but there's nothing wrong with that, people like Sam Raimi started on a shoestring too. Not being able to throw money at problems pushes the creators to be inventive and focus on telling their stories well.

All in all, i'd definitely recommend this first season and would certainly watch a second if one gets made.

Nothing but cliché writing
spudsta-0408423 October 2020
I struggled through to the end of this series just to see where they were going with it. And in the end it wasn't worth the time. The writing is all the same stuff you have heard a thousand times before. The twist wasn't good. Don't waste your time with this one.

7 Emmy Nominations? New low for awards shows
corksniffers16 June 2021
So very low budget it's like a high school project with an antique handycam, written by an illiterate 8 year old, staring cast offs from saved by the bell.

Truly utter crap.

Solid Potential with an Interesting Narrative
maYYoureviews16 August 2019
I was introduced to this series by The Reel Rejects and decided to check it out.

I really enjoyed the show, I felt some of the actors took time getting comfortable in their roles but once they did they were really able to flesh out their characters.

I loved the narrative, having the real life world conflicts blend together with the short stories.

I'd really like to see a second season made so the world can be more explored and the characters can be further developed.

If you're looking for a quick but interesting Anthology series, I definitely recommend checking it out.

Chapter Five personally was my favourite episode! But unlike most Anthology TV Series, I definitely recommend watching this in order!

Boring after 2nd Episode
satantwin26 January 2021
First 2 episodes were interesting then it fell of the cliff. Boring and blend. On episode 6 now and it's a yawn fest. I'd rather watch something else. 2 stars for first 2 episodes.

Darkest before the Dawn
DonCGorham25 July 2019
I had no idea what to expect when I chanced upon Dark/Web and I am glad for that. From the very start, I was pulled in but I didn't readily realize into what. This refreshing entry into contemporary techno drama has broken from the usual formula. Dark/Web has layered story within story, with each episode introducing a new character to join in the search for Molly Solis and through that journey we see each character develop not only within themselves but also with each other. Each of these sub-stories could well enough stand tall on their own but are served better in their multi-faceted use in this cleverly woven tale. How often do you get an opportunity to not only watch but look forward to enjoying two shows in one? Pay close attention as you do because the clues and reflections are there for the viewer to espy. I also want to mention that the acting by all was exactly how it needed to be when it needed to be. It never seemed undersold or overreaching, allowing the cast to drive the story as a whole through to the end of its arc. I enjoyed this telling through both its narrative and design and am greatly looking forward to more of the Nardelli's and Felt Film's projects.....including the upcoming STARDRIVE. Well done and thank you for something different!

It's pretty watered down so not quite as good but think Black Mirror/ Twilight Zone for pg viewers.
tkaine323 July 2019
5/10 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠 = A light hand clap 'Dark/Web' is a mostly solid series of anthologies with a running time for each chapter at about 30 minutes so backstories are thin and they jump right to the point. Every episode of horror is centered around computer hacks and viruses involving violent acts of crime. Many of the lead characters are actors you've seen before but can't name. I wouldn't say these chapters are very scary or terrifying they barely show any blood or actual violence they take you to the point and usually cut scenes without showcasing heavy gore. The episodes are not frightening they may get a little creepy but most adult horror fans will categorize the fear factor as being kiddie. The cinematographies good though and will keep your attention through out it doesn't look cheap but it's below the level of what a mainstream movie would achieve. The special effects are lacking though not so much due to quality but quantity most of the editing is used for computerized transitions or onscreen digital effects. Would I recommend this series, Yes but only for mild horror fans who don't want to be terrified while watching, It doesn't move the needle for me per say but it wasn't the worst thing to watch on a boring Monday nite.

Horrible Acting
SurvivorsEdge13 December 2019
Individual sub stories are good / intresting, but the acting is too horrible. Like hearing a great audiobook read by a horrible voice talent.

Lovecraft anyone?
toiler-3748212 January 2020
I could've sworn I heard the word "Meskatanic" in the first episode. Also, the logo that represented the rideshare service had seeming tentacles. What's going on here? I am not against Lovecraft's work. It's just that the other reviewers don't seem to see that. To be fair though, I didn't exactly read each one: I used my laptop's "find a word" tool thing to find terms related to all things Cthulu mythos. I didn't find any hits. But if any of you did, my apologies.

Terrible acting !!
ReemaaZZ31 January 2020
This is actually a decent show if it wasn't for the really bad acting from the leads. The stories that molly wrote is more interesting than the main characters that we were supposed to sympathize with, the characters of Ethan and Sam couldn't act to save their lives and why did they make this Sam characters so damn annoying i don't know. would have been a good show if they made alternative casting choices.

This is Entertainment
mleo5023 July 2019
I titled the review because a prior reviewer seemed to think Dark/Web was a documentary. I, like the average non-tech person, found the premise both intriguing and scary - and yes, entertaining. The chapters contain stories within the overarching storyline of the missing Molly Solis. Molly is a computer analyst working for a quasi-government agency. Through her job, she comes too close to learning that a valuable AI tool is vulnerable. She disappears but finds a way to bring old friends to her aid by sending them stories that will guide them to her. These stories within the story are very Twilight Zone episodes on steroids; intense, creepy, thought provoking. Some could have been trimmed as they started to take me too far afield of the primary storyline. This was an indie production and I give props to all for their labor of love. I was pleasantly surprised by the production values. The casting was spot on. They were a believable ensemble of friends. I hope that Amazon may decide on additional episodes.

Complete inaccurate depiction of "the dark web" and it will make anyone that knows a thing about it cringe. Acting is mediocre and plot is horrible

Oh geez...
selenabella-8725123 February 2021
So this is basically exactly like "Unfriended: dark web" movie. Villains face is covered with pixels, even though everyone else's face is super visible. I mean...it's like camera KNOWS when someone is evil - interference happens and immediately blurs their faces. Plus, we see almost everything actors see on their phones, computers, laptops, etc... just like in a movie. And don't even get me started on first "Unfriended" movie...they all reunite for someone who disappeared (or in "Unfriended" - died).

I was waiting to see reviews about similarities with those two movies, but I guess no one watched them. So if you are reading this - give them a chance. Much nicer stories, from which this tv show was clearly copied a lot.

Awful
roxmewild3 May 2020
The acting was so bad that I really struggled to keep watching and in the end I could take no more the first episode Rideshare was awful firstly as a taxi driver you would expect him to have a knowledge of places without having to use a navigator and there are so many more stupid errors that it was hard to watch

After having recently watched a few top rated shows my tolerance level for bad scripts and acting is very low maybe but seriously this show imo is one to avoid

Has potential but....
africe30 June 2021
The problem is that the stories are complete BS. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be true but thats what they lead you to believe. The more phony the stories began to become the harder it was to watch. How is it that the guy telling the story gets murdered? Can't tell a story if you're dead.

Conceptually Black Mirror series without the acting
tjcj-6529820 January 2020
Anthology series have been all "the rage" since so many recent series have taken off in popularity. This show hits the nail on the head with the unique presentation of different technological nightmare stories wrapped in an overall story that is more mystery than the one-offs.

The content for the mini-stories is very good; however, the series really loses its luster with the terrible overacting from the overall story's characters; pregnant awkward pauses and faux showing of concern makes it almost hoaky at times. Truly, if this was presented just like Black Mirror where there's no context to worry about, this would probably be a very popular series. Alas, the writers tried a little too hard to weave more of an original idea within the anthology construct, and with any decent acting, this show hits a home run.
