I'm a sucker for these
DaDonatello8 September 2020
I watch a lot of found footage films so admittedly I like them. This is one of the better ones, but definitely is full of the standard messes riddled with the genre. The acting is good, the scares are there, and the plot is intriguing due to the real history of the hotel. If you like the genre you will enjoy it. My main problems were the plot holes and the overtly contrived plot, but that's to be expected.

'Followed' shows the horrors of internet influencing
Sir_AmirSyarif24 January 2021
Antonie Le's feature film debut, 'Followed,' is definitely not the worst horror nor found footage film, although it's also very far from the best. It has a lot of great tension and some of the scenes are genuinely creepy. Unfortunately, the story and plot are a convoluted mess that never quite comes together enough by the end. It is trying to say something about internet celebrity and commerce, but it mostly falls back on clichés. The cast are pretty decent though the main character's obnoxious vlogger persona surpasses unlikeability and transcends loathing.

Forget the hype
Stanlee1077 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is a film that critiques those YouTube paranormal investigators that are sceptical of ghost but is keen to entertain the viewer.

In this film, Mike (Matthew Solomon) and his crew go to a haunted hotel in which the infamous Meghan Kim (Sarah Chang plays in this film) was found dead under suspicious circumstances.

I found Matthew's performance decent as he captured the vibe of those YouTubers that specialise in doing those paranormal activity investigations. He is annoyingly entertaining & commited to this role& his crew Christopher (Tim Drier) does a decent attempt as the believer & Dani (Sam Valentine) is good as the level headed one.

This is a mixed between a YouTube video and paranormal activity film minus the scares. The jump scares scenes are overdone here.

Another testimony to the ill wisdom of planting fake reviews
ofumalow24 June 2020
This isn't the worst found-footage horror you'll see, although it's also very far from the best. It's a jumble of half-baked ideas borrowed from other, better movies, overlong and not well acted, though more experienced actors still could not have pulled off this crappy material. But its shortcomings wouldn't seem so stark if you went in blind...as opposed to having your expectations raised for something even halfway decent by the majority of early "user comments" here that are all clearly by crew members, their friends and family. (I mean, click on their handles--"mysteriously," almost none of them have ever commented about another movie before.) Reading those kinds of 10-star claims and then watching something this lame and amateurish turns an ordinary bad movie into an intensely dislikable one, since you feel like you've been duped. Filmmakers: Show a little spine. Don't get all your pals to post obviously fake "reviews" on IMBD and other forums. It will backfire, in that the people you lure in as a result are not only going to hate your movie, they're going to hold it against you in your future efforts.

Cheap and Obnoxious
Poison_Ivy27 February 2020
I don't know why attempted realism/naturalism has to look so cheap - this so-called feature film should have been uploaded on Youtube for free.

The majority of the performances were insufferably obnoxious, starting with the Youtuber played by Matthew Solomon: a good horror film needs a lead that you can actually root for and empathize with. This guy should have been done away with during the first 10 minutes of the film.

It's flicks like this that give low-budget indie horror films a bad name.

Lazy and Trite
rsheikh-9398828 February 2020
It's as if someone read a blurb in some third rate newspaper about some hoax, and decided to shoot something in an entirely ad hoc manner, with a third rate script and an even worse cast.

I can't even call this a 'film'. It is entirely lacking in imagination and innovation, which characterizes a lot of low-budget horror films, but this is an all time low even among those.

I disagree with the poor reviews...
chrisgilmer2 September 2020
This movie scored points with me on the basis of mainly what I was looking for: Did I get some good scares out of it? My answer was definitely yes, there were some well thought out places in the movie that were genuinely scare-worthy.

One thing this movie had that others that are "found footage", or whatever you want to call them, that also appealed to me, unlike many other movies of this genre, was that the investigators actually reviewed things caught on camera, whereas several other movies (Paranormal movies come to mind), the people setting up cameras to catch strange occurrences don't bother to review the footage of what happens while they're sleeping, which, oddly enough, is when most activity happens in these types of movies.

This is not really a spoiler, but will make you scratch your head. The ending seems to have just been thrown together and ruined for me what I considered a very decent movie.

Perfect example of a weakly made found-footage horror flick! [+31%]
arungeorge137 September 2020
One of the weaker found-footage horror flicks, as opposed to what Google results may tell. The scares are cheap, the effects are lackluster, the performances way over the top, and the entertainment quotient negligible. The concept did have potential; if only they'd focused on the little details about the hotel than just moving from story A to story B with no solid end result. While it doesn't give you a headache, the usage of background score in this film was pretty poor.

The lead actor Matthew Solomon plays a vlogger named Mike who's hell-bent on gaining more followers to the point of risking his own damn life - the character has been sketched in an extremely obnoxious and annoying manner and therefore, as a viewer, I didn't care for this guy's lethal attempts at popularity even when there was a reveal midway that his wife's pregnant. The supporting cast is weak too, but what mostly sucks here is how non-scary this flick is. Do me a favour and watch 'Host' instead.

Honestly? This was surprising...
xxmisssvxx19 September 2020
I love horror films and I'm always looking for the next best story, creepy, disturbing, or scare factor. However, 2020 has been absolute garbage for horror since the anticipated films like The Conjuring 3 and A Quiet Place II, and several other solid ones have been pushed to 2021. But, to my surprise I came across this film and read reviews beforehand but ignoring the negative ones as I commonly do.

I enjoy found footage based horror films if they're done right (and without excessive camera shakes). This film was surprising for me. It's creepy and disturbing in some situations mixed in with the reality of Los Angeles.

I would say for a found footage based film, it was well done for what it is. I've seen some pretty crappy found footage films but the creepy/scare factor was lacking and camera stability was terrible. The story behind the elevator game was disturbing, sort of like a modern day version of "bloody Mary", except in an elevator while floor-hopping. This is worth the watch without having too much expectation; just enough to feed your curiosity.

Nothing happens for 93 minutes then the credits roll
coltsfan1828821 June 2020
I'm not *angry* at this film, it's not that type of bad movie, but it's one of those that just seems aimless. The mythos and lore of the haunted hotel are never fleshed out, and so many demons, ghosts, and whatevers are introduced that you just lose track of who is who and what's even happening. Even for a night out at the drive-in, this just wasn't that fun...

Worth a watch in 2020 but nothing spectacular
thisisviiic4 September 2020
Overall I really enjoyed the locations they used. I'm a SoCal boy so I always have a biased on la movies with the history you can actually look up. The lead in this film was annoying but he was playing the typical YouTuber who wants fame. Ultimately the fate of the cast is in the air and we don't really get an explainer at the end. Nonetheless, I was in the zone looking for any little spooky stuff hidden in the film. Solid popcorn film. Not going to rewatch tho

So close to being a worthy fount footage film.
frankblack-7996110 January 2022
Recommended viewing. There are not many decent ff movies anymore, let alone good ones, and this qualifies as decent. If they had cast Mike better and changed up the basement scene at the end, it could have been much better. Effects are decent and a bit overused imo. Has some genuinely creepy scenes. Not bad. Not great.

Just awful...
dunnrick28 June 2020
It's sloppy, cheap and boring. It's an insult to real drive-in movies. Oh, most of the 10 star reviews are from brand new accounts created to just review this movie.

Worth watching
naveendadel21 June 2020
Everybody who rated this movie more than 7/10 are just people who worked for this film. Worst casting, worst script. This movie is a mixture of those two.

Elisa Lamb?
henrygrazer7 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was very well made but I thought it was really distracting that it emulated a few "real life" things (like the Elisa lamb case) but made them out to be something else. It made it feel like a reenactment show on the lifetime Chanel or something like that. The main character was over the top obnoxious. It was worth the watch though.

Definitely not worth it
Graigslist2 September 2020
I started watching and got interested because I liked the 'youtube style' of filming but the lead actor can't carry the film. There are too much key scenes were he is overacting. The scary parts are so forced scary and don't really work.

Worst film I've seen in a long time.
conrado-cs29 June 2020
I'm usually a sucker for amateur-ish films, they are pretty awesome and are usually the most scary ones. This is not the case, unfortunately. The movie is boring, over-acted, annoying and lame. The story makes no sense, even tho it's trying to convey real events, the ghosts are total digital crap, and the ending is just funny to say the least. I tried, but it was a hard no for me. Save your time and watch something else.

Freaked me out!
anthony-45327 February 2020
Ummm... this movie is based on real events!! It's kind of crazy how they were able to take places and things from Los Angeles and build a story around it. The bridge in Pasadena, the hotel in DTLA (the elevator game?! Wow). As good as the concept is, it's the lead, Matthew Solomon, that really brought it all together. I found myself being slightly annoyed by him, but he was also undeniably charismatic. Kind of like a real YouTube star, lol. He really sells it! Definitely enjoyed this movie and would recommend it!

This was a good movie for what it was
DebraIonaVogel5 January 2021
This was a better than average indie movie about a YouTuber doing spooky stuff videos....and things -disturbing things-happen.

John Savage has a part, points for that. Still sexy.

It's an interesting story with good twists; it keeps you interested for sure.

The editing was excellent and made this movie better than I expected. Good story, shot well and fun all of the way through.

It's not a bad effort at all. Definitely worth a dark night, popcorn and a cuddle partner. Do watch!

New low.
berg-7453225 April 2021
These soulless monsters are trying.to make money on the raw grief that Elisa Lam's family is still dealing with. It took me less than 30 seconds for the feeling of dread to start and when it got to the movement by movement reenactment of Ms. Lams last moments I was done. If your thinking this kind of story and movie have been done in film before your right, and the best example of one story that's been used by Hollywood is Ed Gein.who's name should be familiar but th as t story because Psycho, Texas Chainsaw and Silence of The Lambs. All horror movies but very different. If you have so little talent that you have to do a shot by shot remake of a real incident you are bereft of humanity. Don't watch this at all but if you make sure your not paying for it.

Who keeps knocking?
nogodnomasters8 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A vlogger known as "Drop the Mike" (Matthew Solomon) needs to do a great story to get 50,000 subscriptions for a sponsor. His crew goes to film at The Lennox Hotel on skid row in LA. It has a haunted history of a serial killer. There are also unrelated killings. They stay in room 1426 (13) which was the killer's room. They do this over 3 days of Halloween.

It is a found footage film and to make the quality a little better it has an editor before it is posted. The story line was decent. Using the found footage method subtracted from the feature. Also, the acting was bad. They needed different people plus the room yelling was stupid.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

It has its moments
ArcherAdam19 May 2022
The movie does a great job of blasting the hell out of influencer culture and the toxicity that surrounds it. The lead character is impossible to like, which is the point, but really I just didn't care enough about anyone else. The entire thing could have been carried by the main character alone and you'd still end up with the same movie. It definitely has a good scare or three - his descent into a dark hotel basement is great - , but it's also unnecessarily convoluted, and the twist is pretty obvious. Even so, it's still a pretty well made, solid entry in its genre.

Lost in the Third Act
timothygartin26 May 2022
Some good characters and some good acting. Not much original here, but was engaging until the end. The story tries to put too many horror tropes into one ending. It became ridiculous and took me out of the movie.
