One Of The Greatest Episodes in All of Television
FruitsPunchSamurai23237 February 2021
Out of all the great television episodes I've seen (AOT's "Savagery", Hunter x Hunter "Anger x and x Light", Lost's "The Constant"), this episode somehow managed to go above and beyond nearly every episode of every show I've ever seen and soldify itself as my favorite. After hundreds of episodes we finally get massive revelations about Takasugi's character and why he hates Gintoki so much. And learning what Gintoki did absolutely shocking and heartbreaking; but at the same time is consistent to his character. And seeing how it affected Takasugi's hatred and therefore his relations with Gintoki was very well done. This along with the brutal fight between them is what makes this episode my personal favorite. Gintama has always been an amazing show, but seeing the character writing and storytelling reach these insane heights was nothing short of incredible, and it makes me so excited to see this masterpiece to the end.

The Greatest anime/television/fictional episode of all time
dhruvverma-811936 February 2022
This episode is the culmination of 300+ eps and it managed to exceed my expectations . We finally get to see the backstory of Gintoki and Takasugi and also get to know the reason why Takasugi turned evil . Everything was perfect from animation to voice acting . This will remain as the best episode ever aired .

Absolutely flawless

Let's also talks about the build it. 300+ episodes, all to lead up to this exact moment. Glimpses & Glimpses of Gintoki's backstory. Glimpses & Glimpses of Takasugi. We knew they were going to find one day and here it is. No one can understand the burden these 3 have carried, especially Gintoki. The person who killed his own master. I guess I can understand Takasugi now and what makes him a great antagonist. The emotions I've felt during this episode, man. One of the best episodes in all of television.

Greatest anime episode of all time.

There really isn't much more to say here... If you've watched the whole thing up until this game-changing episode, you'll have tears in your eyes for most part of the Gintoki vs Takasugi fight.

The best fight in animanga that gives an entire new context to both the protagonist and antagonist, narrative quality, amazing dialogue, incredible direction, well made animation, emotional soundtrack, all at its peak here, you won't find anything better after you finished it. It's just that great.

Perfection.
LeoRQ_18 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Simply incredible.

This episode not only demonstrates the narrative quality that Gintama has, but also shows us a totally different approach to the work.

We are used to seeing absurd comedy and jokes, but this episode breaks with that nuance, having an incredibly well executed serious touch.

The voice acting seems incredible to me, and the animation is just perfect.

The fight between Takasugi and Gintoki is the best that I have seen in all the anime (not only in this work, if not, generally speaking). Perfection, there is no other word to describe this episode.

The best anime episode
Chaudorossa16 January 2022
All I can say is that I have not seen an episode as complete and perfect as this one. The choreography of Gintoki vs Takasugi is splendid, with fresh and fast movements and a combination of flashbacks and emotions that only Gintama is capable of achieving, I don't think I'll ever see an audiovisual work that is capable of causing such a great emotional impact.

A top episode in anime history
abrahamcampbell24 May 2022
I first heard about gintama because of the high praise the shogun arc would always get. So, I started the show out of curiosity, only to find it wasn't what I expected at all in the start. This is because going into the show I didn't think it was a comedy anime lol. Consequently, for me the show starts slow, but for me picks up around 50+ of episodes. Then the show never slowed down, getting better and better, as it kept building upon all the comedy and serious arcs to get to the shogun arc everyone talked about. And when I finished watching up to this episode, I wasn't just satisfied with sheer hours of time spent watching all those episodes with hints of gintokis past or hints of this battle, I was utterly blown away with the whole shocking reveal, intensity of the fight, choreography, character development and emotions you can feel that this episode gives. I'm a Aot fan who always will say it gives some of the best episodes(hero, from you 2000 years ago, two brothers, etc.) but Sworn Enemy is just as great and is a masterpiece of a TV episode that should get as many viewers as those aot episodes.

What an episode
malikrockie18 February 2022
The animation, the soundtrack and most of all the story are some of the best works out there. Love it. This episode in particular encapsulates what Gintama's main story is about.

Speechless.
aali-125822 February 2023
This is television at its finest. I personally think that there is no episode in all of fiction that will ever stand toe to toe with this episode. The animation, the flashbacks, the voice acting, the soundtrack, the choreography and the magnitude of this whole episode all link together to make an absolute masterpiece of an episode.

The massive reveal in this episode comes and hits you like a truck and the way it does so is like no other.

Greatest of all time. Zenith of the medium. Hallmark of media. Gold standard of storytelling. Apogee of creativity. Vertex of invention. Crest of ingenuity. Acme of imagination. Pinnacle of innovation. Epic of epics. Legend among legends. Peak fiction.

11/10.

Best episode of all time
peppesorr13 June 2023
I've seen a lot of anime series and, of course, their respective main fights. This fight is so special, and I think above all of them, because there are no superpowers or any other gimmick, it's just a fight between two men. Yet, it is so powerful and beautiful, because each fighter has a strong motivation, so the viewer can understand each side very well.

During the episode it is revealed the linked past between the two fighters and this make the motivation behind the fight more deep.

Another thing is that this fight takes about 300 episodes to build up, so when it finally happens it's just amazing.

There's no need for long and boring scenes to make the fight longer, like the majority of anime do, it has the perfect length since it already begins in the previous episode.

So the whole fight is just two episodes long but it's just perfect.
