Stars: Michael Jai White, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Tom Berenger, Patrick Kilpatrick, Victoria Pratt, Chuck Zito, Gillian White, Randy Wayne | Written and Directed by Scott Windhauser
Cops and Robbers stars Michael Jai White as a hostage negotiator who plays a high stakes game of cat and mouse with a cornered bank robber. As the two men learn each other’s identity, they realise they have a shared past, as estranged brothers do, with scores and grudges to be settled…
Can Micheal Jai White ever get a break? The man had obvious skills, both in acting and martial arts, which we’ve seen in a myriad of his previous films. However lately he seems to have become stuck in a rut of appearing own small cameo roles in films or playing cop roles that don’t show off his skillset. Even when he does get to kick some ass his performance seems stifled.

Hopefully March will bring respite from crippling snow storms and frigid temperatures for much of the globe. And if it doesn’t? Well, Hulu’s got some new streaming options at least!
Hulu’s list of new releases for March 2021 are relatively slight on Hulu originals. Thankfully, one beloved original of note is coming back this month. Solar Opposites will premiere all episodes of its second season on March 26. This sci-fi animated comedy from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is a breath of fresh alien air.
On the movie side of things, Hulu is premiering Boss Level on March 5. This actioner will star the delightful Frank Grillo and the decidedly less delightful Mel Gibson. Speaking of delightful though, the documentary Kid 90 will arrive on March 12. This comes from Punky Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye and features hours of footage she shot in the ’90s that will depict what...

Luke Combs took to Instagram Live on Tuesday night to perform the first of what he promised will be many Livestreamed shows, as the United States settles into a discipline of social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’ll do one every week we’re quarantined,” Combs said at the conclusion of the four-song set, which kicked off with a soulful cover of Tracy Chapman’s 1988 hit “Fast Car” and included the debut of a new song, “What Do You Do When It Rains?”, that he just wrote during a writing retreat in Florida.

Max von Sydow, the tall, tragic-faced Swedish actor whose name was virtually synonymous with the films of Ingmar Bergman, has died. He was 90.
Variety has confirmed that the actor died on Sunday.
Von Sydow, who became Bergman’s symbol for the modern man in such films as “The Passion of Anna” and “Shame” after making his Bergman debut as the errant knight in “The Seventh Seal,” also had an unusually prolific career in Hollywood and international films.
He made his American debut in the role of Jesus Christ in George Stevens’ turgid 1965 epic “The Greatest Story Ever Told” and went on to make strong impressions with audiences in “The Exorcist,” Woody Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters,” David Lynch’s “Dune,” “Three Days of the Condor,” “Hawaii,” “Conan the Barbarian” and “Awakenings.”

The jukebox musical — or “catalog musical,” as some on Broadway prefer to call it — has been running rampant for more than a decade now, leaving both triumphs and travesties in its wake. But even after we’ve seen the lives of Cher, the Temptations, Carole King, and the Four Seasons transformed into musicals — or the songs of Johnny Cash, the Go-Go’s, and Alanis Morissette used as scores for fictional stories — nothing quite prepares you for Girl From the North Country. Not the first, but certainly the best, musical featuring...

Describing a “web of untruths and lies,” Rob Cohen has vehemently denied all the allegations of sexual assault and child molestation made against him by a TV project collaborator and his own daughter.
“I have never assaulted, raped, drugged or molested anyone,” The Fast and the Furious director told Deadline after a report was published in HuffPost earlier Saturday alleging the Hollywood veteran assaulted a 28-year old woman in a NYC hotel room in 2015, following a meeting about a potential TV pilot.

“The Fast and the Furious” and “xXx” director Rob Cohen is facing another sexual assault allegation in the wake of a story published by The Huffington Post on Saturday. Cohen, whose transgender 32-year-old daughter Valkyrie Weather earlier this year said the director molested her when she was two years old, allegedly assaulted a then-28-year-old actress after they met in New York to discuss a pilot that never came to be.
Jane, as identified by The Huffington Post, said that after ordering her a drink she didn’t ask for, Cohen “moved the meeting to a restaurant that happened to be situated right by the hotel where he was staying, ordered a carafe of wine and encouraged her to drink some more.”
According to the story, Jane recalled feeling “fuzzy” after sipping her drink and “feeling suddenly alone” in the restaurant with Cohen. She said he then tried to kiss her.

Rob Cohen, the director of the original “The Fast and the Furious” and last year’s “The Hurricane Heist,” on Friday denied accusations of sexual assault made by his daughter Valkyrie Weather, a 32-year-old transgender woman who was born Kyle Cohen.
Cohen in a statement to TheWrap denied the accusations as “both untrue and unimaginable” and asserted that he has “never raped anyone.”
In posts shared to her Facebook and Twitter (and also in a deleted thread on Reddit) late Thursday, Weather claimed that Cohen used her body “for his own sexual gratification” as early as when she was between the ages of 2 and 2 and a half. Weather also said her mother and Cohen’s first wife, Diana Mitzner, witnessed at least one act of assault.

After Thanksgiving weekend, it looked like the Lionsgate movie “Robin Hood” would be the biggest blockbuster bomb of the 2018 box office. But the Sherwood Forest revamp has now been dethroned by Universal/Media Rights Capital’s “Mortal Engines,” an adaptation of Philip Reeve’s sci-fi dystopian novel that opened to a mere $7.5 million domestically this weekend.
Most of this year’s box office flops have been mid-budget releases like “Annihilation” and “The Hurricane Heist,” rather than blockbusters with $100 million-plus budgets like 2017’s “Ghost in the Shell.” “Robin Hood” was the closest to that budget mark with a reported budget of around $97 million.
But “Mortal Engines” had a budget of at least $100 million, with some reports estimating it as much as $150 million. While Universal doesn’t disclose budget figures, it’s possible that the studio might not make back its production costs, let alone that of its marketing campaign. Overseas figures...

A producer on Twitter recently entreated critics not to craft Worst-of lists this year, and I couldn’t disagree more: Observers of film should absolutely be praising the best of cinema, but it’s only by remembering the shortcomings of the art form by which, ideally, artists can learn from their mistakes. And mistakes were definitely made this year:
10. (tie) “Peppermint”/”Proud Mary” /”Red Sparrow”: Can we have some strong screenplays to go with our strong female leads, please? This trashy trio of action sagas put guns in the hands of some of our most talented actresses but then forgot to supply them with things like character, motivation, or logic.
9. “Christopher Robin”: After dumping the last great “Winnie the Pooh” animated feature on a Harry Potter opening weekend, Disney added insult to injury by crafting this glum and tedious look at a grown-up Christopher (Ewan McGregor) in the throes of a midlife crisis.

2018 was a great year for the box office with plenty of record-breaking hits, but even a good year has its bombs. Here are ten of the most notable bombs this year, including one from the biggest blockbuster franchise of all-time.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story”– Budget: $250 million, Global gross: $392 million
Disney broke box office records left and right this year, but it also had the most high-profile bomb of the year with this “Star Wars” anthology film that told the origins of Han Solo. With lukewarm reviews and stories of a rocky, budget-inflated production hitting the press for months before release, “Solo” became the first “Star Wars” film ever to fail to gross $400 million worldwide. With “Episode IX” still a year away, Disney execs have said that they’re taking another look at how they handle future films in this hallowed series.

Tom Hardy-starring “Venom” injected some much-needed juice into the Chinese box office, with a blockbuster $102 million first weekend opening. The film crushed other new releases and holdovers alike.
Data from Artisan Gateway, which excludes online ticketing fees, shows the superhero film gobbling up 73% of the entire Chinese box office this weekend. Second-placed Japanese animation, “Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer,” took $10.6 million, or a 7.5% share.
The strong performance of “Venom” is a useful fillip for the Chinese theatrical market, which has suffered a string of sub-$100 million cumulative totals by the top-10 films for the previous nine weekends. The aggregate box office leaped to $140 million, giving a year-to-date total of $7.3 billion, about 9% ahead of the same point last year.

Ticket sales at the Chinese box office fell below the RMB500m ($72.67m) mark for the third week running, triggering the worst decline since September 2014.
The week from Oct 29 - Nov 4 saw the box office drop by 6.5% week-on-week. Additionally, the month of October has slumped by a massive 40% compared to the same period last year.
In such a quiet week, Disney’s live action fairytale The Nutcracker And The Four Realms easily topped the chart but with an underwhelming $11.7m from its first three days.

Chinese box office sees 3% drop week-on-week for October 22-28.
The Predator, the first mainstream Hollywood release since Mission: Impossible – Fallout’s opening two months ago, failed to provide a much-needed boost to the lacklustre Chinese box office, which fell further by 3% week-on-week in the period of Oct 22-28 to become the second quietest week of 2018.
Despite the strong summer months, the Chinese box office has been in decline every week in October and almost every week in September. The month of October will record negative growth compared to the same period last year.

A heist takes place during a hurricane… It’s difficult to imagine a sillier plot outside of Snakes on a Plane, but, like that film, The Hurricane Heist takes its ridiculous premise and runs with it, delivering about as much fun as it’s possible to have with a film this stupid.
Every action hero needs a tragic backstory, so here we get two for the price of one, as young brothers Will and Breeze witness their father getting crushed by a water tower during Hurricane Andrew in 1992. And as if that wasn’t traumatic enough, the CGI clouds morph into a shrieking skull face, just to ram the point home.
Cut to the present day and the brothers’ lives have...

Going back to school or work after lounging at the pool all summer isn’t a fun wake-up call, but you can still escape to Wakanda or “Hollywoo” with the Marvel blockbuster “Black Panther” and Season 5 of the animated comedy “BoJack Horseman,” which are coming to Netflix this month.
Plenty of Netflix originals are debuting or returning in September. Acclaimed director Cary Fukunaga’s dark comedy “Maniac,” starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, arrives Sept. 21. The mockumentary “American Vandal” is back for Season 2 and the docuseries “Chef’s Table” returns for its fifth installment. Classic films are also coming to the streaming platform, including “Groundhog Day,” “The Breakfast Club,” “Scarface,” and animated pics “Lilo & Stitch” and “The Emperor’s New Groove.”
