Complete rip off of Body Snatchers, and that was a better film. Only the two main boys were decent actors, the rest of the cast were awful. I actually really did like the very end scene, but mainly it was a snooze fest.

Forgettable
mikedegroot13 June 2019
There is absolutely nothing new or memorable about this movie whatsoever. That's not saying that it's horrible or unwatchable, just completely forgettable. The story has obviously been done before and in much better fashion. The overall production of the film is average at best and doesn't necessarily drag the film down, but is not going to win any awards either. Overall it's just lackluster and kinda boring. 4/10

Mediocre

Decent storyline but not executed very well. Well acted and shot but ultimately kinda boring. Not terrible but forgettable effort.

... of all the "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" films. I'll just leave it at that.

Yes it's been done before...
Wikkid_Gamez24 May 2019
But I've definitely seen worse... While the idea is far from original the acting is good and in truth how many creature feature/monster movie concepts are original these days? I mean when you get right down the the basics? Are vampire movies? Or werewolf? Other alien invasion ideas? Definitely not the zombie stuff that's been done to death repeatedly since The Walking Dead started. There will always be new movies of old concepts with their own influence and ideas. This movie does some things differently. I think its well directed, well acted and overall well put together. Maybe the fact that I haven't seen the Invasion of the Body Snatchers since I was a kid and never have seen the '07 remake (this isnt the type of story I gravitate to usually) make it easier for me to like this one. Nothing fresh in my mind to compare it to so I was able to judge it by its own merit and not compare and dissect it to death.

It is worth watching and if you can come to it with an open mind and not try and hold it up against other similar movies you will probably like it. Thats like holding all zombie movies ever made in comparison to the original. Seems a bit silly to do when one thinks of it that way with all the different directions they have taken over the years. Zombie movies are never an original idea anymore no matter which way its spun. So why must people be so hard on everything else that isn't an original idea? Its possible that this movie wasn't even trying to be a remake of that exact movie but is just their own concept on the whole alien invasion subgenre, or maybe they did want to do their own version of that particular movie. Either way it was a good movie.

No source material nod is odd, but the cast and retelling is good.
amesmonde13 April 2022
Missouri town's folk are being duplicated, assimilated and replaced by otherworldly inhabitants. Two switched on streamers go about trying to expose the horror with the help of their friend and a cop before their small town is overrun.

From the outset strangely there is no credit to the source material despite clearly being an adaptation of the or remake of The Body Snatchers (1956), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Body Snatchers (1993) and/or Invasion (2007). While the similar film The Faculty (1998) was a homage of a number of sci-fi films director writer John Murlowski and fellow writer Steven Palmer Peterson, on the nose, assimilate the aforementioned adaptations.

Murlowski's direction has plenty of visually dark and interesting elements, the special effects, especially the creatures are notable. Along with Damian Horan's cinematography the on screen shenanigans offer dread and tension, which Sven Faulconer's music complements. To Peterson and Murlowski's credit the story with the POV, internet streaming aspect is sparingly put to good use and works within the story. The downbeat closing pulls no punches, and has a double little twist, a satisfying end on an end.

All the cast do a fine job, unlike most adult cast adaptations this has teen mostly leads. Joel Courtney as Zach and Andi Matichak as Kayla are particularly impressive. Notable with limited screen time is Cam Gigandet as Deputy Josh Haywood. Courtney and especially Matichak keep the proceedings, kinetic and grounded with solid performances.

It may be on the same level of some of its predecessors (or credit them); but thanks to a few fresh tweaks and the two young leads efforts, this 'adaptation' is certainly worth a watch.

Invasion of the Plot Snatchers
aldiboronti25 May 2019
The aliens' plan was fiendishly clever, to gradually assimilate all movie plots and replace them with identical clones. There was only one flaw. They couldn't write and they couldn't act. The replaced plots provoked only laughter and derision among humans and the invasion was an abysmal failure. Back to their planet skulked the aliens in abject humiliation. Making movies was tougher than they had realized.

Despite the negative reviews, I liked it.
fimdb-6958825 February 2020
It seems to me that when I am set up to believe a movie is probably going to be a not-so-great experience, I wind up liking it. Conversely, when reviewers rave about a movie, a lot of times I am disappointed. This is one of those movies where I wound up liking it in spite of the bad reviews. I was on the edge of my chair for much of the movie.

Yes, it was a remake of the pod people movies, but with some different twists. Just like with the endless iterations of zombie and vampire movies, it's a formula that works over and over again. ...Another guilty pleasure!

Invasion of the Body Snatchers was Already Done
facebook-883-93017226 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There's nothing wrong with creating a derivative film or re-imagining or remaking an old title, but to do so without an ounce of originality is beyond disappointing. This movie isn't inspired by "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" it *IS* "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Dead copy, different actors. No original ideas, no original scenes, if it happened there, it happens here.

Let's see we have: 1. Pods 2. Copies appear fully grown and nude 3. Copies must kill the person they are copying 4. You can "pretend" to be a copy and it works 5. When a copy realizes you are human they open their mouths wide and shriek 6. The heroine is trying to find her little brother 7. The heroes get separated from their friend, when they meet him later he is a copy 8. Copies shamble around expressionlessly like pod people from IotBS

The only "new" stuff in this movie is the updating of technologies and the addition of cheap jump scares and found footage (e.g. the worst that modern horror has to offer.)

What a wasted opportunity! :-(

It is a good movie
iceman8886926 May 2019
I think a lot of the other reviews are looking at how this is like the 6th time this type of movie has been remade. It is the 5th or 6th time, but it is actually pretty good. They should have done more character building, because you really don't get too attached to most of the characters. I wish they would have used Cam Gigandet more in this movie, I think he was the best part of it.

If you have seen one Invasion of the Body Snatchers movie, you have seen this one, but this one does have a few things different and I liked the twist at the end. If you enjoy horror movies, you will enjoy this one. It even has a little bit of found footage stuff in it, which I personally like.

Classic teen horror flick. Worth the watch.
stanrohrer27 May 2019
It's basically Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it's well done. Acting is good. I liked it since it had that classic teen horror feel to it. They missed a chance or two to make things truly horrific, but in general it was a good watch.

Boring clone of "Bodysnatchers"
carlos-pires26 June 2019
Very boring clone of "Bodysnatchers", with modern tropes added for modern idiots' viewing pleasure. I tried watching this 3 times, but could not make myself suffer through the whole boring 93 minutes: I gave up little over one hour into the movie. Spare yourself the ordeal.

I'm so tired of you lazy directors!
aknightonly8 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Being 48 yrs old and an avid movie watcher, I've seen all of the "body snatcher" films. This one did have some unique twists. Also I'm glad that it was not a 100 percent 3rd person video camera viewing film. With that being said, It was a good movie up until the two boys thought it best for the girl to split from them. That's ridiculous. With everything that already happened, who would do that?!!! NO ONE! Next, in the barn with the two boys. They already knew what was going on. They knew what was in the coolers because they previously filmed when they were chasing the creature through the woods and it went inside the containment that the preacher had. DIRECTOR stop being lazy. Also, viewers are not idiots! I stopped watching during the barn seen. I'm sick of sloppy movie making like this. The movie had real potential!

Great film!!! low rating for no reason
degryse-4410127 May 2019
This is actually a great film!!! So I have no idea why the rating is so low on here and why some people have given this a 1 out of 10, this is most definitely a 7!

It's a suspenseful film with unexpected twists and the acting's good, so what's the problem with this film then?

Apparently this film reminds some people of another, similar film. So what? You gotta get your inspiration somewhere, that doesn't make this a bad film.

And I liked the open ending, I'm hoping they'll make a sequel ;-)

Couldnt even finish the movie.
parkmanjohn26 October 2019
Same formula used before but for teens. The teenage actors are awful. It is so bad you don't care who lives ir dies. Watch The Faculty instead if you want a better teen body snatchers type move. Or watch The Invasion.

If The Faculty Was A Part Zombie Movie...
desperado_here2 March 2023
This resembles the Faculty or Invasion. Only difference is, you need to get bit for your body to be replaced. However, the storyline and setting especially resembles the Faculty. You got these high school kids that stumbled on the possibility that their average town has encountered something that is changing people into "something else" that looks and sounds like the people they no longer are. That whole conspiracy thing plays out in this movie just like the Faculty and the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The only difference is you become like a zombie requiring flesh. Anyhow, the movie is very entertaining. I think the movie gets low reviews because it's B-rated which seems to be the norm. Not sure why, but a lot of good B-rated movies get rated much lower than they need because people rate them like a "theater" movie which is unfair. Anyway, I recommend this movie!

Lazy writing and lazy directing strikes again!
amufan4 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love movies and I take it personal when a potentially good movie gets destroyed by lazy writing directing. I can live with saving money on low level actors but when they are given such a ridiculous dialogue and action sequences it makes them look even worse. If you r saving money on actors then spent on good writers and a good director. Iam thinking the scenes are shot independently and these directors have no vision for the overall movie. There are so many things wrong with movie it would take pages to point out. But the worse was for sure the barn scene and the runner up leaving poor Joey alone with the aliens. I laughed when the kid left him in the attic, but I gave him pass as he could be panicked. But the second time and third time??? They couldn't come up a reason for Joey to come with them? "Hey joey lets go get some ice cream" wink. Instead they wait all day to try and save him. And You know it, conveniently the aliens waited for the end to try convert him. I know writing and directing are not easy but in grade school my friends and I put better movies together in my back yard. Please Hollywood less focus on politics and more on better movie making!

Has been done better
tony-146-6956262 June 2019
This is a rip off of the 1956 movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In turn rebooted in 1978. The 1978 movie is considered the better version. Was again remade in 1993 (Body Snatchers), and in 2007 The Invasion. And I guess 2019 with this one.

This version is very low budget. This is painfully apparent in what it does not show or at most shows very briefly and partially. Relies instead on very earnestly delivered active segments that generally are pretty good.

If a person has never seen the originals then this movie will be good enough to warrant a watch. Its decent. If they have then it will be harder to be immersed in it as the similarities in the movies will deaden immersion.

I agree with a previous review that several opportunities to increase tension and shock were missed. So close... so far...

So the pros are decent earnest acting and a decent if unoriginal plot. The cons are low budget, a plot that simmers but fails to boil over , the ending not withstanding. Plus if you have seen any of the previous versions the ending is not a surprise.

Invasion of the body snatcher another rip off
kaefab24 May 2019
Cam Gigandet i used to really like this guy, never back down, Priest, but now is acting career is over, how can he sink so low doing b grade low budget movie is beyond me.

There is even the open mouth scream you see in Invasion of the body snatchers in 1978 in this movie, and the CG for this one looks horrible........

good stuff
ops-5253525 May 2019
I usually hate zombies and the like stuff, but this was a good assimilation of many genres within the mystery genre..

its good acted, a bit dry story, but youll never relax when viewing. the musical score brings you even deeper into the action.

wanna see a nice horror sifi action thriller that may be a bit of a sidekick, then the grumpy old man recommends assimilate, and a sequel will come

Predictable but decent.
hestytesty26 June 2020
If you enjoy a simple horror mystery/ "alien take over" the movie is worth a watch. It can get fairly slow and dumbed down with generic cliches at points but I was still satisfied in the end. The main actors and actresses are good as well, some better than others. Definitely a B movie horror film.

Bad remake of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers
kelleybyes13 November 2019
Terrible acting, and they jump right into the story with absolutely no background information about anyone. Very lackluster plot, and you don't really learn to care about the characters at all!
