Billy Magnussen has left the Off Broadway production of Robert O’Hara’s Shit. Meet. Fan. due to what producers say is “an unforeseen health concern.”
With Magnussen’s departure – he’ll be replaced by Take Me Out Tony nominee Michael Oberholtzer – the opening date for the play at McC Theater has been moved from Monday, October 28, to Monday, November 18.
Previews began Thursday, October 10, and Oberholtzer will take over the role of “Frank” sometime next week. Understudy Jesse Pennington will temporarily step into the role beginning with tonight’s performance.
The production, which also stars Garret Dillahunt, Genevieve Hannelius, Neil Patrick Harris, Jane Krakowski, Debra Messing, Tramell Tillman and Constance Wu, runs through December 15.
In a statement tonight, producers said, “We are grateful for [Magnussen’s] work in the play and wish him a quick recovery.” Additional details about the nature of the health concern were not released.

It's strange to think that quite a few networks turned down "Breaking Bad" before it became the gargantuan hit series it did. The show largely defined what is meant by the term "the golden age of TV," providing pre-streaming audiences with a slickly-made premium drama that represents exactly the kind of high-quality entertainment that's often lacking in today's oversaturated media landscape.
What's more, "Breaking Bad" launched or catapulted the careers of several of its actors, most notably Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White/Heisenberg — a chemistry teacher who goes on a meth-dealing odyssey to become a drug kingpin. Cranston has become nothing short of a megastar in the wake of his seminal series, but it wasn't just the former "Malcolm in the Middle" star that received a post-"Breaking Bad" boost. Many of the actors involved with the series have seen their careers take off since the show went off...

Writer/director Jt Mollner‘s “Strange Darling” (in theaters August 23) is a horror film that immediately grabs the viewer’s attention with the vividness and intensity of its imagery. The opening scene of the movie about the final months of a serial killer opens on a terrifying chase scene in flashes of black-and-white, then moves from one distinctive set piece to another, shifting between bold palettes to use color, light, and framing to recalibrate the viewer’s understanding of the unpredictable relationship at the movie’s center. Mollner throws down the gauntlet with an opening title card informing the audience that this is a movie shot on 35mm film; from that point forward, every richly textured image exists to demonstrate just why it was so important to shoot on celluloid, and to alternately delay and reveal the movie’s many thrilling surprises.
Aside from the plot twists, there’s another big surprise in “Strange Darling,...

Criminal dramas about defenders of justice were once popular only in the procedural format, but the industry developed by leaps and bounds. Over time, we began to receive full-fledged dramas at the level of feature films with the best actors of our time.
One of the most popular projects in this genre was White Collar – an exciting series about a sophisticated, elegant, handsome intellectual, formerly one of the elite of the criminal world, and now an FBI consultant, Neal Caffrey, who, together with Agent Peter Burke, solves the most complex crimes in New York.
However, while White Collar and Suits received its fair share of love from the viewers, another project remained in the shadows completely undeservedly.

In the tradition of “The Naked Gun”, the 1950’s detective crime drama series “Tightrope!" will be ‘re-imagined’ as a slapstick comedy series for The Roku Channel, fronted by Emmy winner Ty Burrell and executive produced by “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston for his Moonshot Entertainment:

Very sad news today as it’s been reported that M. Emmet Walsh has died at the age of 88. No matter the size of the role, the prolific character actor always made a unique impression throughout his long career, which spanned six decades.
M. Emmet Walsh is best known for playing Bryant in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, the captain of the Los Angeles Police Department who tasks Deckard with tracking down the replicants at the beginning of the film. He told THR that the cast and crew weren’t quite sure what the make of the movie when they first saw it. “I don’t know if I really understood what in the hell it was all about,” Walsh said. “We all sat there and it ended. And nothing. We didn’t know what to say or to think or do! We didn’t know what in the hell we had done!

Exclusive: Karolina Wydra (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) has landed a lead role opposite Rhea Seehorn in the upcoming Apple TV+ series from Breaking Bad creator and Better Call Saul co-creator Vince Gilligan, Deadline has learned. The untitled project, described as a blended, grounded genre drama, has a two-season straight-to-series order.
Per usual, Gilligan is keeping all information about the show under lock and key, so Apple TV+ and producing studio Sony Pictures Television declined comment.
Believed to be a departure from the world of drugs and crime he explored in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the new series has been jokingly nicknamed “Breaking Good.”
“After 15 years, I figured it was time to take a break from writing antiheroes… and who’s more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Seehorn?” Gilligan said at the time of the series’ announcement.

Chaske Spencer has signed on to the horror thriller, which is inspired by Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger. The Echo star joins Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman in the series from Universal Studio Group’s UCP and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.
As was the case with Strahovski’s and Speedman’s casting, most details on Spencer’s role are being kept under wraps for now. He’ll play a character named Ruben Shanley.
Teacup will follow a group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. The show’s setting departs from the novel, which took place in Texas. Peacock gave the project a series order in late 2022 after several months of development.

Perhaps you’ve heard but it’s been a very Suits summer.
Despite airing its final episode in September 2019, USA Network’s legal procedural Suits has been the talk of the streaming world ever since its first eight seasons arrived to Netflix on June 17. All nine seasons have been streaming on Peacock for far longer but Netflix, as the biggest streaming service, tends to drive the most attention. Per Nielsen, Suits has already broken its own streaming record with 3.7 billion minutes viewed the first week of July and viewership intensity doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
The potential reasons for Suits‘ surge in popularity are manyfold. While the dual WGA and Sga strikes shouldn’t have led to an extended pause in summer content in theory, some studios have juggled their schedules a bit to weather the storm for the fall season. Additionally, Suits‘ basic cable format...

There’s a great show hiding inside the convoluted plots otherwise obscuring “The English.” From writer and director Hugo Blick (“Black Earth Rising”), Amazon Prime Video’s new limited series taps Emily Blunt (also an executive producer) and Chaske Spencer to play Cornelia and Eli, an especially odd couple who forge an equally unlikely and unshakeable bond out in the dusty, unforgiving deserts of the American West. Updated with Saturday schedule: After a two-year in-person hiatus due to Covid, San Diego Comic-Con is raging back with a big footprint by streaming, TV and, well, as far as big screen feature films, let’s just say they’re creeping back.
Marvel will make some big waves with its upcoming new movies (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Disney+ series (She-Hulk), but it will keep some powder dry for D23 in early September. Dwayne Johnson will be booming with New Line/DC’s Black Adam, along with Shazam: Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi. However, while Sony will be skipping as the Spider-Verse animated sequel is set for next year. Paramount will be giving fans an early look at Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. And there’s Kevin Smith with Clerks III.

We’re two weeks out from San Diego Comic-Con 2022, which happens to be the first real Sdcc since Covid-19 shut everything down in 2020. Yes, Comic-Con international did hold a very small, stripped down version of the event last thanksgiving but this year marks the convention’s return — hopefully — to pre-covid glory.
Naturally, you can expect a lot of great panels and events to plan for, and lucky for you, per tradition, today marks the start of daily news drops for the Sdcc 2022 schedule. So grab your calendar and let’s get started.
Paramount claimed the first Hall H panel of Sdcc 2022 with a look at “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” which starts at noon on July 21 in Hall H.
