Can't believe people think this is a bad episode
jamescairns-116957 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I was shocked to see this episode as the lowest rated of the entire show. Honestly, the main story-line isn't that great but the inter-dimensional cable aspect of it is hilarious, even after the first inter-dimensional cable episode. This is one of my favourite episodes to re-watch and one of the few that still makes me laugh out loud.

Probably the worst episode
ericstevenson25 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It's weird because even the worst episode of "Rick And Morty" would be something I would still technically recommend. This movie is more or less a sequel to another episode after interdimensional TV, but it made the mistake of shifting the focus more on the subplot of Morty's dad having to donate his penis to replace an alien's heart or else hundreds of billions of people will die. Yeah, it's kind of dumb. They actually STILL manage to make the episode excitable, particularly at the end where Jerry (Morty's dad) gets shot dozens of times. It isn't in an alternate universe, it's just that he was in a really good hospital.

The segments themselves are fine, but they're not as good as the first episode. It's still funny not knowing what's going to come up next. I guess it was trying a little too hard to be a unique episode in its own right. There are still lots of funny moments, particularly with the heroin atmosphere being revealed. There's even a funny cameo by one of those hamster anus people. I agree with the IMDb that this is the least good episode, but still watchable as the show is just that good. ***

Doesn't deserve all the hate but is a hiccup
leviponce-2906614 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The outcry from fans on this episode is very understandable, especially since they risked doing basically a rehash of an old episode (hence the name tempting fate), but by no means is it bad or terrible, its just newer and older episodes are easily 10/10 quality so when we get something around 8 people think its "bad" I do admit the plot with the TV is hit or miss some of the shorts fall flat like the personal space guy and the twerking at the title card. on the other side some were actually quite good like the jay Micheal vincent and the how its done, but its still not the highlight of the episode. On the other side of the plot i find the plot with Jerry is a great satire of modern societies fixation of sex. how many people in jerry's position would be willing to give up their "manhood" in order to save a very important dying man that you don't know. Also the pay off in this episode is great it was funny and satisfying.

It's just a matter of taste.

Rick and Morty is one of those shows that doesn't have a bad episode. It depends on if you really love the show where your perspective can come into place. This is the lowest rated episode of R&M and to me it's not that bad. If you aren't that big of a fan of the show then you won't like it. If you are a big fan, you will like it. It's just a matter of taste.

Some good laughs and more funny improvisation.
boytebay12 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A sequel to the Season 1 episode "Rixty Minutes" in which various improvised clips depicting interdimensional TV shows are shown. I love the concept behind these episodes and it really shows how funny the writers are even without scripting every last detail. The episode gets a lot more hate than it deserves in my opinion, mostly directed at the subplot where Jerry is asked to donate his penis to be used as an alien heart transplant for an alien of apparently incredibly high standing. Personally I thought that the subplot was full of laughs and is mostly marked down by people who find penis jokes cringy or just the mere mention of sexual organs as being distasteful. Honestly one of my favourite parts of the episode is where a wizened old alien is talking gravely about his experience with penis jokes on earth "It's funny to say they're big, it's funny to say they're small. I've been at parties where humans have held thermos's in front of themselves and said, look at me, I'm Mr this and that dick, I have such and such for a penis. I never saw it fail to get a laugh". The adverts and TV shows are hilarious, consistent with those shown in the previous episode. I wouldn't consider this episode to be my least favourite at all (though it's hard to pick a least favourite in a show so good).

Verdict: If you can get over yourself enough to enjoy an episode of random improvisation and dick jokes, you'll enjoy it.

Nowhere close to horrible, but still pretty mediocre.
derpypikmin24 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I will ignore the fact that the previous Interdimensional Cable set the standard extraordinarily high, and instead I will review this episode as it is standalone. This episode feels forced, partially unfunny, and like the writers had no clue where to take it next. Some of the gags are funny (i.e. Stealy, Plumbus, Personal Space, Lil' Bits, and Opposite News) but there are a few jokes that fall flat (Jan Quadrant Micheal Vincent, Man V. Car) The Jerry storyline starts off okay, and quickly becomes somewhat uncomfortable. The whole "Cut off Jerry's Penis" thing isn't disgusting or anything, but it begins to drag and feel somewhat boring. The ending feels irritating, too. Watching Jerry being brutally killed isn't the darkest thing Rick and Morty has done, but it isn't too pleasant. But my main complaint with the ending is that we learn the hospital easily put Jerry back together like stapling two papers, which questions as to why they needed a human penis or donations to solve Shrimpley Pibbles' (I hope I spelled that right) heart problem. Anyways, several plot holes, a lackluster ending, some less than stellar jokes, and a weird direction in story make this my least favorite R&M episode. On one note, I will say the Werner Herzog guest appearance was hilarious and well-done.

Better than people make out.
GraXXoR1 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What I like about Rick and Morty is that even their "worst" episode is better than the highlights of a dozen mainstream shows.

This is no different. While it suffered some rough reviews mainly due to penis gags (no pun intended) it does manage to move the Jerry's character development forward.

Since the first season it is clear that Jerry is completely absorbed with being needed, wanted and considered important. But we're still somewhat surprised that when his human manhood is challenged, he's actually willing to part with the real family jewels and sceptre...

...until that is when the galactic rule of "informed consent" means that the doctor has to explain in great detail the procedure of separating his love truncheon from the rest of his body before proceeding.

Then Jerry's secondary characteristic, innate cowardice sticks its tail between its legs and bolts.

For me, though, the highlights of the show were the cable clips.

Masterfully rendered in all their low budget quality. Starts off with twerking... Excellent!

and in no particular order...

Opposite News... Cooking Things... Octopus Man... Butthole Icecream Parlour... Man Vs. Car... How Did I Get Here? Funny Songs... Eyeholes... Jan Quadrant Micheal 16...

But for me, the highlights of the show were the clips

Lil Bits... It... it. fits just right in.. packed with Li'l details... The Personal Space Show... 1 Personal Space... 2 Personal Space...

Leaving the best for last: "Adventures of Mr. Stealy," the longarmed cousin of Poopypants.

and How They Do It: Making a regular old Plumbus.

And Beth saying "That's not a gun!"

Oh, and of course the inimitable Werner Herzog as Shrimply Pibbles.

There is so much humour packed in to this show that even as the "worst" Rick and Morty show it is a delight.

Underrated episode

Not one of the best, but it shouldn't be compared to anything. This episode is better than any of the best episodes of any other animation. 10/10 when not compared to anything.

I Believe It Was Supposed To Be ...
rapope22 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
From what I can gather, this episode was supposed to come off as poorly written material, very reminiscent of SCTV's Count Floyd's Scary Stories (or variations thereof). This cable show material was supposed to come off as second rate, just as Joe Flaherty played Count Floyd on SCTV. It's as if the material was ab libbed so poorly to be funny.

Maybe this wasn't apparent to many of the viewers?

The material of the takeoff on "How It's Made" was also a scream! It was very accurate, even if the nomenclature was totally fictional.

Most people on this site are too young to remember SCTV...

YouTube likely has entire shows of SCTV available.

It hasn't been on the air in many years in my area.

Nothing Bad Nothing Good
FiveCirclesTheorem25 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I think the episode is not pretty good, but not bad too the thing happened in the episode I think is in fact a real thing the whole episode is used to satirize the people watching RAM in the ending Jerry wanted to go to the zoo,but finally everyone laughed at him, maybe the meaning is to satirize us,who always want a happy ending

maybe you don't like the episode ,but i saw the meaning behind the meaningless episode and i actually think it's an adequate episode as i say there is nothing good in the episode, of course nothing bad in the episode, too.

i'm not good at English,i just want to say something about my opinion

Half-baked and UNFUNNY episode to a so far perfect season makes viewers disappointed
choorydanny21 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Rick and Morty is one hell of a funny television program we all love watching. Its second season started perfectly by nailing such high notes with its hilariously written, brilliantly complex sense of humor that we expected. However this episode withers on its potentials with the concept of a sequel to Rixty Minutes by exploiting this brilliant idea of multi-universal weird TV programming. The jokes and running gags felt forced and pretentious compared to the previous season's refreshing, new direction with which Rixty Minutes came to be a fan favorite with its eccentric humor and memorable characters. In this episode Jerry wants to have his d*ck chopped off! Get your bloody sh*t together, show runners!

Very mediocre episode that ruins a perfect run.
derpyhoovespony12322 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
First of all I just want to say, I hate gross out! I can't stand it and I feel that it ruins an episode.

The bad

Anyway that aside, this episode was sadly a pretty mediocre episode. Riddled with poorly made gross out, which I would expect family guy to do, not Rick and Morty. The episode is focused on jerry getting his penis chopped off and a few side gags with Rick, Morty, and Summer. The jerry plot, is the main reason why this episode fails. It is filled with unfunny jokes and gross out which make you cringe far more than laugh, and sadly has a very family guy vibe or a vibe of the splinter (spoungebob) this ruins any humour they do make. The side plot with Rick, Morty, and summer is just boring. It is also filled with gross out and seems just to be there to pad out time.

The good

The good in this episode is specific to the Rick, Mortey, and Summer plot. Which actually has some good jokes, and made me laugh. Also like every rick and Morty episode, it is well animated, and its funny parts are really funny.

Overall cringey episode which is riddled in gross out, and a boring side plot, which is only boosted by it being funny at times.

A shame
MattyFromCanada22 January 2023
They did one episode like this before - and it was painful. Why they decided to return is anyone's guess. Mine? It is an easy (and lazy) way to make content. Unfunny improvised skits are turned into alternate universe "television shows". The problem is they are really not brilliant. The animators do their best to try to turn them into a proper gag but whoever thinks they are brilliant enough to just talk nonsense and have it come out as comedy needs an ego check.

The main storyline is alright but makes up only a little over half of the episode. Why such a smart show as Rick and Morty would focus so much time on episodes of quality only to dump this on us? Only the creators truly know.
