Sex & Nudity

  • There are two scenes of suggested sex. The first is between a non-married couple. They kiss passionately and he pulls her clothes off as they fall into a bed. However, the scene cuts out very soon, and you see very little nudity.
  • The second is between a married couple, and is only suggested, nothing is seen.
  • Stripper scene: Female in bra dancing provocatively.
  • The scene is actually a belly dancer and isn't sexual but rather cultural. Ana gets up and dances with the woman as a form of entertainment.

Violence & Gore

  • An autopsy of a man is seen in the professional setting. As the professor states the man died of cancer within the bowl. His stomach is cut open where Mikael digs into the hole and removes something. It's isn't violent as the scene is done in the sense of medical studies. Mikael's friend then goes to remove a lesion only to have blood spurt on his apron where he passes out.
  • As Chris goes into a town we see 3 men hanging from a noose purposely placed as a message.
  • The ottoman is leading the town popular when a woman falls to her knees because of exhaustion. An ottoman soldier comes up and shoots her. Blood is briefly seen and isn't clear. Not that violent but the woman's daughter witnesses it.
  • Multiple Turkish civilians are beaten by other civilians in a riot. Mikael gets involved in a fight and starts to beat a man but is kicked in the face. Mikael beats two men.
  • At a labor camp a man had a steep beam drop on his leg and is hit a few times for his incompetence. Isn't too bad.
  • A story is told where a man describes building a railroad and the soldiers execute almost all the laborers and dump the bodies in the ravine.
  • Mikael removes the bullet from a man's neck and Ana bandages the wound.
  • Wounds are seen being healed by Armenians.

Profanity

  • Bastard, goddamn, and shit (the literal term) are used once.
  • God and other forms of profanity like hell and damn used several times but sparingly.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Drinking is seen but is mostly beer and wine. However there are 2 scenes where Chris is seen drunk and the other scene he is inebriated. Mikael and Emre are seen partially drunk.

Violence & Gore

  • Multiple men are beat in prison including Mikael who is hit in the head with a gun butt. His head bleeds a good amount.
  • The man who had the steel beam hurt his leg is picked up by Mikael and another prisoner. He is shot through the chest. A bloody bullet wound is seen briefly.
  • A laborer kills himself and others after throwing weeping dynamite to the ground. It isn't violent but the explosion is seen throwing Mikael.
  • A large group of dead bodies are seen boy a stream. Most of them have bullet wounds and blood. The scene is disturbing as the camera lingers over the pile. People's eyes are open and clutching loved ones still. Chris looks over at a dead child with a stomach wound. Mikael finds his father and Widein the pile dead. He hugs their bodies and more are seen scattered about. It isn't clearly seen but Mikael's wife had their unborn child cut out from her womb. It's only talked about and is not seen. His mother is seen alive and so is Yeva.
  • Soldiers shoot at Mikael, Yeva, Chris, and his mother as they run away from the pile. Chris diverts the soldiers and is hit in the groin. He is spared.
  • Emre is shot to death by a firing squad. He his shot in the head and chest. Blood splatters on the wall behind him and blood is seen coming from his head and chest. It's violent but not excessive.
  • Soldiers are shot and killed in the battle between them and the town of Tassek. A man is shot in the leg and it bleeds quite a lot. Multiple soldiers are shot in this scene. It is fairly bloody but isn't excessively bloody. Just quick blood spurts.
  • Mikael's mother Marta dies in her sleep.
  • Artillery fires at the Armenians in the mountains. A man is seen dead without wounds.
  • In the 2nd battle between the Armenians and Turkish soldiers, people are shot and killed. Some people are killed by explosions. The French get involved and shoot at the Turkish soldiers.
  • An explosion knocks a few people off the boat. Ana drowns in the water but Yeva survives with Chris and Mikael.
