Flash back

Warning: Spoilers
For a British psychological horror, this is not too bad. This reminds me of a better film that I regard as a classic called Overlord. It is a given that this film is no where in the same League but it is ok.

I would suggest that you watch this film then see Overlord and then you will understand the vast difference between them: From the pretender to the real deal.

The second movie in the middle of a trilogy you didn't know was one
BandSAboutMovies13 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The sequel to the movie The Rizen - this was originally The Rizen: Possession - this film follows a group of urban explorers who stumble upon the door to a NATO and the Allied Forces secret lab where the occult was used to attempt to win the Cold War. There's also a military unit looking for those arcane powers, but some doors were better left unopened, right?

The strangest thing about this movie is that Adrian Edmondson - yes, Vyvyan from The Young Ones - shows up as its narrator. He's not in it as much as the trailer would lead you to think, though. But still! Also, Sally Phillips from the Bridget Jones movie is in this too, which is another person I didn't think that I'd ever see in a Silent Hill style movie about occult military experiments.

Life is weird, everyone.

The Rizen: Possesion
a_baron27 January 2021
How best to describe this film? How about confusing? Although most of it consists of two distinct groups of people walking around in the dark getting picked off by zombie-like creatures, there have been similar films that score well, but this one fails at every level. Is it science fiction or occult? A bit of both, apparently, and with more background it might have warranted damning with faint praise. Sadly, there is more background. Although it isn't entirely clear from the dialogue, this is actually a sequel. The first film is even worse.

Is there a mint for that?

Warning: Spoilers
Five urban explorers go into "The Facility" which has been abandoned. We discover later in the film the government did occult experiments there. We are introduced to Grace (Harriet Madeley} in that group. We are then introduced to Sgt. Davies (Michael Fatogun ) part of a paramilitary private group who does work for the government. They are to neutralize and extract but are not told what. Davies is given a book to help him. It has occult symbols and is written in Latin, the only language a demon since the beginning of time understands. While there, they encounter blind humans who attack them, who you would think would be easy to kill.

It was similar to a zombie film. It combined elements of theology, science, and the occult without going into any detail or mentioning the name of a single demon or even saying something in Latin. It was mostly hide 'n' seek, locate and kill for most of the horror action.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Confusing!
HarrySmooth17 March 2021
I STILL have NO idea what I just watched! I mean it had some frightening moments, but for the most part didn't make much sense to me. Seems to be 2 points of view, 1 from the Military Squad, and the other from the kid explorers, and neither make much sense!

What happened?

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this from start to finish. I couldn't tell you what the point was. For majority of the movie it was like two films. One from the soldiers and one from the explorers. I couldn't tell for a while if the explorers were a flashback or in the same time. Eventually that ironed itself out. But sequences didn't make sense. You're telling me a highly trained paramilitary group got taken out immediately by 1 man? This brother and sister team, that look nothing alike, act more like lovers. The other two explorers looked younger in their flashback. And the flashbacks could kill you?! Then there's that ending. There are other doors in other continents/countries? Yawn

An Incoherent Mess
jm-vincent14 March 2021
If you were strapped to a chair with your eyes forcibly open (like Alex in "A Clockwork Orange") then you would have an excuse for seeing (not watching) this movie. Please Mr. Mitchell, stop writing/directing movies; or, if you find it impossible to control your urge, at least share with us how you obtain financing so that some worthy filmmakers can off-set this drivel with their work.

Engaging Action/Horror Film
hammerheadcases30 May 2022
This movie was packed with action & lots of scares, both psychological & jump scares. I would have loved to give this movie a 10/10, but while it is an incredibly engaging film, at the end you just say "WTF"? There is no story coherence and the payoff seemed to be the ending from another movie that got mistakenly spliced into this one! When I saw the opening credits it listed Ade Edmondson, who I loved as Vivian from The Young Ones. I looked for him the entire movie and never saw him. Then upon doing an image search, I realized the both Ade, and I, have gotten really old and look nothing like our younger selves!

Technically competent
thedarkestshadow-327859 August 2021
Technically the movie is good. Meaning the acting, effects, sound, etc. The story on the other hand is just an incoherent confusing mess. They tried to do too much with too little time. I got the gist of the overall story and what the event was but the stuff in between was ?????

Watch the Rizen 2017 first
thegrimmshaw17 September 2021
Technically better than the first. Though can't be watched as a stand alone. Watch The Rizen from 2017 and then watch this one. Better than your average Indie Horror. Especially when it comes to writing and acting.

Pretty decent but only if you have seen the first one
continuumx20 April 2023
This movie is listed on Tubi TV as The Facility rather than as The Rizen: Possession. There's no indication that it is a sequel or related to any other movie. I don't know why they listed it like this especially since they also have the first movie. Whatever the reason, it doesn't do this movie any favors. Without the previous movie for context, a lot of what happens in this one just becomes incoherent nonsense. For examples, there are a lot of flashbacks. In some of them you see the actors in different costumes. In some you see somewhat similar looking but clearly different actors. These are the actors from the first movie but it just makes no sense if you haven't seen that. There are a lot of things like that in this movie.

This is a decent sci-fi horror movie but make sure you watch The Rizen first. Otherwise, a lot of this movie won't make a bit of sense.

Very cerebral, not much action
scifiactionfan30 July 2021
I didn't hate it.

It is not fast paced.

I had to look at imdb for an explanation. :-) I watched it on Amazon Prime.

It is worth streaming but I wouldn't see it at a theatre.

Mess of C and D tier actors
matthenry-883795 April 2024
I can't lie I watched this for the British cop guy and it felt like he was on for 2 seconds other than that is was just really bad and felt like it was written by year 9 media studies students. The plot was all over the place and felt rushed and the acting was just abysmal and I would rather watch paint dry than this boring codswallop again. There were about 2 scenes where I was sort of invested but I lost interest after 3 seconds. I had not even heard of any of the actors here before watching and i'm glad for that and wish to never see them again after that godawful eyesore. When the dreadful film finally ended I was in tears. Not because the movie was good, because i realised i had spent my precious time wasted on this crap. I would rate it zero but that isn't possible. AVOID THIS FILM!!!

Finally .. Rizen
kosmasp13 July 2022
This is a sequel - there is another Rizen this follows up on - so no pun intended. You do not really have to see the previous movie, but if you do, you will see the connection(s) ... no pun intended here either. The movie looks a lot better than the other movie. The acting is also way better overall. Script seems to be tighter too.

What is missing (if you want to call it that), is the silly humor the first movie had. The action steps it up though - and we have two stories interconnected. If you have a heart for low budget Science Fiction Horror movies - you could do far worse than this. I dug it and have to admit, with the limited budget and the location restrictions ... this is quite well done.
