Emotions Torn Apart
kovyhart24 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Well, in completing Season 3, I found myself comparing the wild conclusion of S2 to this one. It's very different. The horse racing scene was fast and furious.

As good as it was to see Polly kill the corrupt Inspector Campbell, expertly played by Sam Neill, the dramatic conclusion to S3 was wild and unpredictable. Tommy (Cillian Murphy) has been put in a untenable situation by the despicable Father. A character so detestable it makes Campbell seem like a choir boy.

Having been put through so much already with the tragedy to wife Grace, now he must do what they want to save his boy Charles after he was kidnapped for a power play in E5. The Shelby family surges ahead thanks to the guilt struck Arthur (Paul Anderson) and brother John (Joe Cole). They plant the dynamite to blow up a train knowing they don't want to do it. But it's for a greater cause to save Tommy's son.

Michael, who is played extremely well by Finn Cole, wants revenge on the disgusting Father for what he did to him as a kid. He isn't as experienced, but goes forward and executes that dirty scoundrel and rescues the boy.

Unfortunately, it comes at a cost with the Shelby's going through with the explosion. That's the price of doing business with the dangerous Russians. Something Arthur warned Thomas about. The Princess plays mind games throughout the season with Tommy and she wins at the end during their deal. Ruthlessly played.

There is no happy ending. Only sadness and emotions torn apart after a great speech from Tommy. I want to also praise Tom Hardy for some unreal acting in a crazy scene as the angry Alfie Salmons. Michael spares him from being executed.

I didn't see the ending coming. But maybe should have due to the apparent growing dissension in the business of Shelby Ltd. Wow. He sure turned his family against him. How will they recover? What's next for Thomas Shelby and his family? Including the wise and honest sister Ada?

The way to dusty death...
greenf7410 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The influence of Coppola, Leone and Scorsese in the first two seasons has given way, in the third one, to that of a quite different film-maker. The clue to the new direction occurs in the shocking moment when Grace is killed at the end of Episode Two - her death is actually occasioned by accident, the bullet is meant for Tommy, but his attempt to push her out of the way, coinciding with John leaping onto the assassin, has the terrible effect of inadvertently bringing her and the killer into line with each other. This is, of course, an explicit homage to the ending of "Chinatown", where the attempt of J.J. Gittes to stop Detective Loach from firing at the tyres of Evelyn's car actually pulls his arm upwards so that his bullet kills her. The tone of Season Three is far more informed by the bleak pessimism of Roman Polanski than by the Italian fire of the three earlier directors, and the shocking nastiness, the utter, pitiless brutality, that surfaces so often in the third season is far more reminiscent of such Polanski films as "Macbeth" or "The Pianist" than it is of the operatic violence of the Godfather films. Humanity - always precarious in "Peaky Blinders" - is all but eroded by the final episode, with Tommy left alone and hated by the others in his family. Throughout, there have been hints of the family coming apart, unravelling from within, and the sheer coldness of the Season Three episodes has been most disturbing. The only measure of hope, indeed, is in (of all things) the character of the feral, brutish Arthur, who, in the truly masterful performance of Paul Anderson, has slowly emerged as a hurting human being desperately trying to be a better man than he is, but forever being dragged back into the pit - he is a damned soul, and, without his saying much at all, it's clear that he knows it. Where the series will go from here is hard to guess at - how much further into the inner circles of Hell will the Shelbys go, and is Steven Knight, whose plotting of the third series has not been as rigorous as previously, able to show us?

Amongst the greatest TV show episodes ever made.
Mcnabbbeasty6 February 2021
From start to finish the peaky blinders season 3 finale was simply all time phenomenal. You will get lost in this episode if you truly appreciate the art of TV production. The acting was as good as you'll ever see; Hardy and Cillian put on a show with emphatic performances in some of my favorite scenes from the entire series! Unbelievably gripping throughout and the build up to finish made for an remarkable spectacle of a season closer.

Watch Season 4 and You Will See Why This Was The Peak Of The Show
Deadlyknights21 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Season 3 on a first-time watch will be your least favorite season. It's vivid, drab, complex, and very much confusing. It may take you until the 2nd or even 3rd re-watch to realize how intricate, breathtaking, and insanely well-written it truly is.

Many of the plot lines set up in this season came to fruition in season 4, both seasons play off of each other shockingly well, and to fully comprehend how incredible they are in their own rights will require at least 2 or 3 viewings and It's not like this season is akin to say season 5 of GOT or seasons 1 and 2 of breaking bad because it's even more amazing than the season it sets up.

This season features a 2 plot structure much like the runner-up for the best season, season 2. The dealings with the Russians and Churchill and the dealings with the Italians and unlike season 2 where the plots come together progressively, the plots stay rather separated.

The B plot of the season features Jon being the catalyst for much of this season and the following season's Italian plot, he cuts the man that leads to Grace's death, which leads to Angel's death, which leads to Thomas ordering Jon and Arthur to kill Changretta senior's wife and bring SR. To Thomas for torture and killing, which leads to the Vendetta that encapsulates all of season 4's plot.

The A plot is the dealings with the Russians. The Menshevik Whites fighting the Bolshevik Reds in Georgia are asking for arms from the Petrovna royal family to help fight the ongoing conflict. The family enlists the far right-leaning Economic League to help get these firearms. Section D "Economic League" confides it in the Peaky Blinders to steal the weapons from a factory to be shipped off by train to the Whites. The royal family want's to use jewels to pay for the weaponry and the Peaky Blinders would get a cut of the profit from the family themselves. We find out that this is all a rouse by Section D and their actual intention is to have the Blinders blow up the train and lay the blame on the Reds, therefore creating the conditions for the British government to cut ties with Moscow. Thomas isn't down with this plan because it would basically lead to his family being sacrificed to make the plan work and he starts working with the Russians to remove all the weaponry from the train which would remove the need for blowing it up in the first place. Section D gets information about this plan and takes Thomas's son hostage to force the blinders back onto the plan. With no other options Thomas obliges and we learn that none other than Alfie Solomon himself gave the information to Section D. Thomas ends up "killing" Solomon for this betrayal. Thomas has the plan to kill the head of Section D and get his son back, negating the need to blow up the train once again. When Michael ends up actually getting to him to kill the head, the train car gets blown up anyway. This then leads to everyone in the family getting picked up by the police and set to hang, everyone except Thomas of course who has immunity.

It's a lot. Even after re-watching it 3 times I still can't wrap my mind around the whole plot, it's a jam-packed 6 episodes. The absolutely most jam-packed 6 episodes on TV.

Father Hughes is the big bad of this season and he's arguably the most ruthless and terrifying villain in the series. He goes heavily underrated but his actor killed the role. He's every bit as menacing as he's slowly built up to be and we truly get to see how monstrous a human being can be. I'd argue he's top 3 villain's throughout the series, even including Alfie. Hughes is what gives this plot such dreadful undertones and such weight.

Alfie takes the spotlight, especially in the last episode of this season. We think Alfie is on Thomas's side for good, he helps Thomas in negotiations and gives him great advice, but he still ends up betraying him for his own greedy gains and the confrontation between Thomas and him is my single favorite scene in the show. Well crafted, emotional, well-written, and quotable. This scene is everything a betrayal scene should be. A landmark in fiction.

This is why season 3 in my opinion rises so far above the other seasons. It's very much the turning point in the series, towards a much dark and politically filled landscape. It isn't just a gang of dishonorable thieves and bookmakers trying to make it big. It's them finally being big and having to deal with the rough political climate around the mid-1920s to early 1930s. It's genius television.

This is quite honestly one of the best episodes of television I have ever seen
Neptune16524 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Cillian Murphy's performance in the last scene is so underrated man! The speech he gave always gives me goosebumps. From the interview they said it was a one-shot scene without any cut and all the actors' reactions were real not acting at all. Certainly the best episode of the show, imo. Every minute of it from start to finish is just an absolute masterclass of screenwriting and acting. At least two of my favourite scenes in the whole series are in this one episode. Cillian and Tom give me goosebumps every single time I watch this.

I also think that Paul Anderson and the late, great Helen McCrory are particularly phenomenal here as well.

What a masterpiece 🔥💔
marwan114 April 2023
Oh, what do I say and what do I leave. A great, deep, crying episode with a great plot with a great philosophy. Just a masterpiece. One of the best episodes in the history of the series for me, and one of the best endings for any season in Peaky Blinders. The amount of terror, philosophy and depth is unbelievable. The scenes of Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy and the great dialogue between them. The acting was great and one of the best scenes in history. Writing, directing and cinematography, everything in the episode was perfect. Watch the difference between the beginning and the end of the episode.. At the beginning of the episode, everyone was happy, and at the end of the episode, everyone went with an iconic scene. The moment Michael killed the priest and sat in front of the door. Thomas, the confusion, his loss of his son, and the wonderful ending. A series that fascinates me literally in every episode. So this is the best season. Excited for the fourth season, and I hope it is no less great for this masterpiece.

A good Season finale
nicofreezer8 July 2021
Not a 9.6/10 at all, theses fans are crazy. But a solid 8/10 with a shocking ending ! The finale does not do enough to save this poor season 3 but at least its a solid finish. Now I want to watch season 4 , so I guess the job is done. !

Season Review
atkinsonlouise-7387322 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed the first two seasons of this show and while season 3 was still entertaining television, it's a dramatic step down. The storyline involving the Russians seemed very OTT at times and removed the grounded and real feel the show had previously. The priest played by Paddy Considine was an ok villain, but felt a bit generic and just evil because he was. The Shelby gang were all decent, in particular I liked Polly's storyline with the painter and we got to see a different side to Tommy's character. Grace's death was an interesting direction to take and made things interesting, but the storyline of stealing tanks and playing both sides of the Russians was a little too Hollywood for my liking. You didn't really feel connected in any way to the enemies and you just felt like they were there to fill a role. Gaite Jensen's character was an interesting foil to Tommy's new found life of luxury, but I feel like she needed a bit more development. Tom Hardy returned and stole the show, whenever he was on screen. The ending to the series was a dramatic twist and did leave me on tender hooks for series 4. Fun and enjoyable, but nothing to shout about. Score: 7/10.

Absolute beast, a 9.5
suangcheahyao18 July 2021
If it's not for the last 3 mins which kinda ruins the whole episode for the sake of lengthening the series, it would be 10/10, on par with "ozymandias" of Breaking Bad.
