Mario Casas Showcase
anevius21 March 2021
The movie was a mid level thriller. Somewhat predictable, but with good pace. The real star is Mario Casas, who once again showcases his excellent acting chops. Well worth the watch just for that.

An all right thriller
teocrito9 November 2020
Mario Casas is a great actor, he is the whole movie really. The story is simple but it gets your attention, a little bit predictable. It is a very minimalist movie, just a few scenarios and a bunch of actors. The ending is very sudden and it leaves you a bitter taste.

No more than six stars I'm afraid.

This guy, Dani, had the worst day i could ever imagine. It's definitely edge of your seat thriller. I gave it a 6 because I expected a better ending.

SUPER MARIO
Saoustou8824 March 2021
This film is interesting but a very slow start. Not a lot of characters and of course Mario Casas steals the show as always. He's a breathtakingly amazing actor. The best of our generation. Anyway, the film is a hard watch from midway through but the script is original. A good thriller movie with s*x violence etc etc but not amazing. So a seven for effort

Exciting thriller with Mario Casas giving a terrific acting as a timid and good-tempered guy
ma-cortes30 June 2022
2019, Barcelona , a good-natured man called Dani (Mario Casas) suffers after sudden dying his aging father . The shy , introverted young man works as a seller in a travel agency in which he's a hard-working clerk . Later on , he meets a mysterious and troublesome woman (Milena Smit). Things go wrong , when the good-looking youngster has an unexpected deadly confrontation , resulting in his quiet life takes a dramatic change . Instincts kick in to clean up the unrest caused in the name of self-defense but does one actually escape free after commit a crime ?

No Matarás or Cross The Line is an anguished , frenetic, nail-biting and for moments violent film that supposes a change of record for the known actor Mario Casas in which he plays a good-mannered , friendly and fine young plunged into a spiral of death and bad decisions . He deservedly won 2021 Goya Award and Feroz prize . Milena Smit appears next to Mario Casas as the free-spirit , disconcerting girl named Mila who gets into trouble , and whose interpretation was worthwhile the Goya nomination and subsequent Pedro Almodovar's call to perform Madres paralelas or Parallel Mothers (2021) . Furthermore , Elisabeth Larena as his understanding and good sister Laura and Fernando Valdivielso as the bully and violent Mila's boyfriend.

It displays a sensitive and rousing , at times, musical score from composers Adrian Foulkes and Federico Jusid , adding catching songs . As well as colorful cinematography from Barcelona by cameraman Elias Felix . In addition to directing this No matarás (2020) , Catalan director, David Victori writes what he conceived as an absolutely sensory work . He explains the following : ¨I wanted the viewer's experience to be very active, this is the cinema that I like, the one that makes you participate in what is happening, during the filming there was an obsession to get into the skin of the protagonist and share his five senses¨. This slow-burn thriller with suspenseful and dramatic events was professionally directed by David Victory . This craftsman David Victori is a young filmmaker who was World Winner of the YouTube's Film Festival . He was selected by Variety and ScreenDaily as one of the directors to watch in the coming years . Represented by CAA. Writer of the Spanish Films "Second Origin" (2015) and " Son of Cain" (2013). Director and Writer of award-winning short films worldwide , including "Reaction" (2008) "The Guilt" (2010) , "Zero" (2015) produced by Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender and director of a PrimeTime TV Show "Flatline" (2017). Rating : 7/10 . Essential and indispensable seeing for Mario Casas fans . Well worth watching .

Mario Casas having a bad day
napakujr20 August 2022
What starts with a friendly gesture completely spirals out of control.

Predictable thriller but some nice long takes without cuts.

The camera is almost all the time close to the main character.

Small thinghs have big consequentions.

And in the end what would you do?

Good all round thriller, but bad ending

For me the acting of Mario Casas was great, a good thriller, a bit predictable and the ending was disappointing a bit, leaving you wondering, unfortunately...

So bad...
AntonioAntonio9127 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all i had a very big problem with the camera work, my brain wanted to explode from all those unarticulated movements. Then of course the complete set of this story and some very incredible situations in which the main actor finds himself, the impression of exaggeration is given, not to mention the unimpeded entry into the ambulance in the end that would not happen in any universe because imagine in literally every hospital there is security that will prevent you from entering.

Do not watch.

Dramatically dumb
intrevulve22 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It started interestingly enough, built suspense from then but it ended weak. It also has plot holes you can lose yourself through. The whole thing with having a sister with connections in the police that keeps you informed of the state of the investigation, the way the escaping in the huge staircase was handled, the "solving" with the wrong turn on the driveway, the nice gimmick of the photograph pinned at the tattoo store and so on. Worth a view but lame writing. Reviewers enamored with dramatic male actor Casas, here up to the task/script, meaning lame, being abused by a goth mermaid who drags him into her net, alcolizates him, ties his arms, spits in his face, brands him with common words, almost gave him a STD and set up a fatidic encounter between victim and harmer, while having the time of her life watching who will be who. The acting was good, if by acting is meant, be the dumb while he gets dumber. Nothing gave anything away to him. Normally, people who ask you to pay for their hamburger, don't actually have a place of their own. I give a 5 for the effort and it's actually the chick that steals this show, not Casas. Pun intended btw.

Great tension and great plot
yuriornellas26 May 2021
Undoubtedly Mario Casas is the great name of this film. His first act, in the first fifteen minutes is doubtful, a little confused and too fast when presenting his characters to the public. However, the film by newcomer David Victori takes shape and full-bodied plot in his second and third act (or parts), when the atmosphere of tension grows, when the character is removed from his comfort zone and the suspense does not stop growing. David Victori found good alternatives to an apparently low-budget film. Could have remade some takes where the camera shakes, for example at the end, but in general it is a great film with an 8 note and that will go into my favorite catalog of Mario Casas. It pleased me a lot. Casas' presence and work are incredible. The end of the film is very artistic with the curious detail of the breaking of the fourth wall.

Felt off the ground
samsoniangaik8 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Seemed like most of the plot is a little off the scenario. Bad day caused by an innocent guy who got to deal with harsher urban street girl. Nice begining and then it turned off the canvas. Movie went to full saving panic mode where there was no real great value. I do understand some will get feelings about that but as a fact its about a possibly intriguing plot that went to 60 minutes of marasmatic chaotic panic preidctable ending with no real xatch to it.

Not much good won't even say one time watch
jaggsmca16 August 2021
Story: storyline is great Execution: lack of creativity and not mature thriller. Seems like someone who is new to thriller/crime genre.

Writing: not much good Script: based on story there could be great script written however its lacking of gripping contents.

Acting: Mario Casas is good actor but alone him can't do much in this poor script and direction. And he has been shown too much weak character.

Camera work: worst i have seen. I mean its fine that you have moving camera but not always. 60% of the movie is shot with moving camera from the beginning to the climax.

Overall: not recommEnded. I watched because i saw Mario Casas in good in such kind of movies or genre.

Don't do it
kosmasp26 April 2021
It probably is something you shout or at least think while you watch the main character ... doing something! He is quite the gullible little naive little human. Not little in size that is. We get to know him and his sister, before we/he dive into a spiral that seems to be un-escapable.

Once you cross a line ... there is no coming back. Although even then, the question is, why go for something and endanger yourself while doing it? Suspension of disbelief ... and a really out there approach to certain things. Not all may agree with everything he does, but overall it makes sense. And I have to admit it is funny to see the main character being played by someone who I only know as the complete opposite of what he portrays here! Good for him and fun for us to watch!

teothx10 April 2021
This is one of the movie that make you imagine what will happen but you'll never known before. The start is slow and easy, you saw many other movies start like this, but what will happen later and every situations will make you wondering all the time and this make you stuck at the chair!

Mario Casas is really a great actor!

A breathless, hell ride and roller-coaster movie!!
kolanis-3775016 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Actually I almost never write anything here, but this time it's really different, I HAVE to get rid of it: this film is really not for the faint of heart, it is a MUST SEE film for everyone: it includes everything, what a cineast freak demands, action, sex and adrenalin pure! the film starts slowly, but gradually gets going until the gas pedal is depressed at the end, and at the end it is left to the viewer to decide how it will turn out.It is one of the few films that I still remembered for days afterwards and that for once did not fall asleep, on the contrary, I spent a lot of time afterwards to process it.so folks and movie watcher, check this out and don´t miss that roller-coaster art!!

Great thriller
JonanthanNewOrleans15 June 2021
Kept me guessing and focused all along, exciting and fun.

Only the first 10 minutes are boring , so just dont quit watching if you don't like the first few minutes because then the real movie starts.

8/10.

Unexpected turns of events and many surprises along the way. Well made and perfect one-off entertainment. Anti-hero in a lead role carries the full story
JvH4824 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Saw this at the Imagine filmfestival 2021, usually in Amsterdam but now 100% online. Many unexpected turns of events and even so many suprises while the story progresses. Well made. Anti-hero Dani as main protagonist succeeds in carrying the complete story. Believable or not, in desperation and sheer panic anyone can rise above himself, precisely what we see Dani doing.

A heart-warming start in the first quarter. Not all families are connected so well, most fight over the inheritance and boast how well they cared for the deceased while calling the other lazy and indifferent. None of that is the case here.

The second quarter could be an average love story. Nothing spectacular, other than that we know there is much more to follow to fill the allotted running time. It all becomes different and surpasses average romantic affairs when Mila's boy friend Ray appears.

In the third quarter, all cosiness is gone. Ray is violent by design. Especially when Dani finds a wheat farm in the apartment, killing Dani is the first thing on Ray's agenda. Revealing his secret business adds to having messed with his girl friend. Dani would have been strangled when he had not grasped a pair of scissors and killed Ray. Mila is devastated and jumps out of the window from the 5th floor, landing on a car roof below.

A tense fourth quarter shows Dani cleaning the apartment, removing all traces that might point to him, and subsequently leaving the building despite being surrounded by police cars. He succeeds, not bad for him with no criminal experience. It becomes even more tense when Dani remembers the selfie taken in the tatoo shop, hanging on the wall there. After he breaks in successfully, he finds himself trapped in an extremely dangerous situation.

I can go on, with still more surprises on the way, but I leave it here for spoilers' sake. The above gives a good impression that fast-paced developments will continue, gaining more traction and speed when the story progresses. It also includes a moral dilemma about getting rid of an unwelcome witness, who might reveal things that Dani does not want known. All in all, a perfect thriller leaving no desires for improvement. Serves its purpose very well as one-off entertainment.

"If you ever cross that line, I guarantee ya there'll be nothin to save ya."
morrison-dylan-fan1 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Having seen a number of outstanding movies from Spain at VIVA: The 28th Spanish & Latin American Film Festival recently,I was thrilled to discover that the GRIMM festival was having a double bill of Horror titles from Spain, leading to me crossing the line.

View on the film:

Finding no option to free himself from the descent into a night of horrors, Mario Casas gives a superb performance as Dani, whose shy, quiet manner is used by Casas to push Dani into a nightmare with ease, which twists Dani as a nervous wreak, left living on the edge, trying to survive the night.

Sniffing Dani out as a weakling, Milena Smit gives a blazing performance as Mila, whose passive-aggressive attitude is used by Smit to make Mila a Femme Fatale siren who catches Dani's ear, and burns with the passion for chaos, when Mila locks Dani into her games.

Crossing the line to a stunning pulse-pounding electronic score by Adrian Foulkes and Federico Jusid, co-writer (with Jordi Vallejo & Clara Viola ) director David Victori reunites with cinematographer Elias M. Felix and slams the audience into an engulfing claustrophobic Neo-Noir Horror atmosphere of tightly coiled, long takes with hand-held camera moves standing right next to Dani, as neon drips across the screen, turning a blood red.

Following Dani after hours from his bar job into going with Mila to her flat for the night, the screenplay by the writers thrillingly take the drip drip approach to pouring the horror over Dani. Initially having Mila be dominant in pushing him around, the writers make Dani's ease in getting pushed around into finding himself at the center of Mila's secrets, which Dani tries to break away and run back to his old life, when the under world of the night, spots Dani crossing the line.
