Special Series for everyone.
tmme-140483 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is an exceptional series with great actors and actresses. Very Good in the way of showing the godly and honor of the main characters. No foul language or sexual scenes which is uncommon of most films today. It has a historical value to me, being American I like to watch a lot of foreign films, this one I learn about a Country that has a lot of history and the people of a time in the past. It has a lot of intrigue and suspense and action to keep it real. Very good music background and filming locations that are not on a set which give you the feel of life. It has it all the good the bad and the ugly and even humor. It is much like the early films and series of the American West and the struggle to bring law and order to a land that had the same problems.

DELIGHTED/FRUSTRATED
evangel-2986528 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I am delighted with the Turkish series: Yunus Emre, Resurrection: Dirillis; Rise of the Ottoman Empire; Peasant Rebellion and Filinta. As in most of these programs, I am so discussed with the writer's choice of leading ladies.

In Filinta, I am displeased with the writer's choice of women for him EXCEPT LEYLA. Lara was SPOILED from her lethal father's wealth, Karah - a murderer even though it was out of ignorance. It was Leyla who helped get her back on the humane side YET, the writer chose to script LEYLA (a rare and hard working doctor) to be a part of the BROTHERHOOD. She was PERFECT Mustafa!&#*$)%#$)! What the world were they thinking to script LEYLA like that - - -FRUSTRATED! FRUSTRATED!

I just knew that he FINALLY had someone who would be TRUE AND LASTING! FRUSTRATED! DISAPPOINTED! FRUSTRATED! It's where I do not want to watch it anymore.

I stop watching Resurrection when they brought in ANOTHER WIFE for Ertugrul. He was just married ONCE. He was successful ENOUGH, why spoil it with UNNECESSARY DRAMA!

Better than most, but.....
jnebocat25 June 2018
Basically, Murdoch goes to Istanbul but with fewer forensics and a LOT more "acupuncture." The first season is an entertaining romp, but season 2 is starting to "lose it." Reminds me of how much fun the first Pirates of the Caribbean was, but then the franchise started to get mired down in cliches and poor plot development. This group of assassins they created, training with Greco-Roman weapons and funky haircuts, looks too much like Conan the Barbarian or a B-grade video game. We are fast-forwarding episodes now in Netflix, something we never did in Season 1. Not sure if season 2 can keep my interest through another 70 episodes. My rating is for Season 1 only.

Great Series
montesik1 June 2017
Despite of not understanding a single word from the Turkish language, my entire family from 8 year old till my father 77 years old watches this on Netflix with great passion. After watching one episode by mistake, we now don't watch anything else on TV. Amazing cast, direction & story on this master piece. Love it!!

So many feelings surface
jolyn-9482521 January 2018
Unfortunately I don't speak or understand a word of the Turkish language so I am at a disadvantage waiting for the series to be interpreted. So many Turkish films I have left Netflix a message to get the next series.

The writers and producers and the actors are superb in Filinta. I smiled, laughed, cried during the entire 2 seasons.

I'm waiting for season 3. Looking so forward to it.

Nice fairytale, alas stretched and flawed
keenast6 September 2021
This is a high budget and high profile state production from Turkey obviously pushing a Turkish nationalistic agenda, which is fine and to be expected. It's a fairytale and very enjoyable to watch. Costumes are lavish and the studio built locations are very well done. It really looks like Galata surroundings in Istanbul. Well acted and mostly good to great camera work. Good sound too which is rare and great music/score.

The show consists of 2 seasons and as shown on Netflix each 'episode' is then cut in half again to make more and shorter and more easily digestible episodes. A weird Netflix decision.

There is a difference though between season 1 and 2. The composer got switched out (season 1 by far better than season 2 which while still good craftwork but misses out on originality and emotion). And cinematography also changed for the worse. Season one is much more colorful and underscores the certain fairytale feeling and then season two, images are more brownish and they tried to add grittiness to the picture. I didn't like that too much.

Also in season two, much more so than in season 1, the constant repetitions of story points gets really tiring - obviously done to stretch time and produce ever more episode, alas not necessary. Also the idea of not only blurring out anything that looks like blood is weird, and additionally even if somebody has a sip from a glass of wine, wel,l blurred out again. But hey, it's a Turkish state production and what I read is the the current president Erdogan personally visited the set to express his gratitude to the production.

Then there's this thing that we essentially have two sides, the good and the bad. There is no grey zone here - it's a bit childish. And the good guys indulge themselves endlessly in platitudes and citations of the Koran. Even the bad guys, 'The Secret Council' can't help to constantly repeat their wisdoms and platitudes. The Secret council of course is a thinly disguised stand in for Freemasons ;-) Women, ah well! They're there because we need them but even though they're allowed to have important roles in the end they always have to be demure and with tiny exceptions stay home and feed the kids. State agenda !

Filinta still is a very watchable fairytale show and would be even more watchable with less politically on the nose pandering and less repetitions. Filinta is an attempt to create a national hero for the younger generation and it succeeds doing that - the series was running for many years!

Astonishing
markchanmusic23 August 2019
I have never watched anything better or similar to this... It's captured my imagination and attention like nothing else I don't speak Turkish although I am a true student of world history and cultures and the Ottoman slant to this has totally mesmerised me. Compelling and emotional Complex and so non-formulaic in the US or UK style. I didn't know I was starting on what is Turkey's finest TV series It deserves all my attention and heart. 9 out of 10 stars

Great series with antisemitic overtones
Irvingr425 October 2020
I watched the entire series Filanta which up to the last few episodes was a very good historical drama, until it made serious antisemitic references to the Elders of Zion who supposed to be Jews ( a Star of David was clearly seen) trying to run the world. The last episode had the founder of the state of Israel Theodore Herzl as the main evil leader. Sadly perpetuating to Turkish audiences the spread of this ancient libel against the Jewish people.

1st season rivetting. 2nd went downhill quickly...
sulyspam5 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first season was clearly well thought out and really sent you coming back for more. The cast was absolutely brilliant. So, so many likeable characters. Couldn't recommend the first season more.

The second season was good (not great like the first) up until Cadi Gyassediens death. I would recommend you stop watching it after that point because it really takes a sharp downturn. They really lost the plot from there on. It really becomes pretty frustrating/depressing/hopeless. They start killing off so many good characters and making up stupid plots that don't make any sense. Any sense of calling on God for help is gone and religiosity because nominal. I stopped watching 2/3rds into the 2nd season after I realised that they directors really have no clue what they are doing and that there really isn't any elaborate plan going on to regain hope and justice. As far as I read on, the ending of the 2nd season is not satisfying and leaves more questions than it answered. Watch it to the end if you want to feel unsatisfied and get depressed.

The most extraordinary TV series on Turkish TV
irmakozgenoglu11 March 2015
For many years we - as Turkish television viewers - have been suffering from TV series full of drama, endless love scenes, fake acting and bad scenarios that repeat themselves.

Filinta, on the contrary, is like a fresh breath on Turkish television. The action scenes are very professional that I've never seen such on another series. Normally if a Turkish TV series becomes popular, the scenario gets extended by the same incidents until the viewers get bored. But in each episode of Filinta there is always a different case that the characters should solve. I don't think that I will ever get bored of this TV series.

In my opinion, Filinta has done what is not done before and this makes it special. The leading actor, Onur Tuna, is beyond my expectations. Maybe he wasn't well known before Filinta but I am sure that he will be now. Other actors are also very successful. I thank all of them for giving us this TV series of good quality.

wolmikim-8635012 September 2018
Enjoyed so much, waiting for season 3... but why they kill most of all the characters to start season 2 especially when they killed the father of 2 brothers. how sad it made me. it doesn't look like a filinta show except 2 main characters.. they are so good acting, just to see Onur's eye make you chill but wonderful acting .

SAD love story when they killed of all of their loved one,, very strange drama but wonderful show to watch !

Ottoman Touch on Detective Stories
fahritasdemir20 March 2015
Since it got started in December, I have become a regular follower of Filinta. With its special effects that we have never seen before on TV, successful actors and scenario of good quality, Filinta made a huge breakthrough in Turkey. It is known that Turkish people love detective stories - even some Sultans were fan of it! - and Ottoman touch wouldn't have been better on those stories. I definitely recommend it. I also want to say something about Mehmet Ozgur in role of Kadi Giyaseddin Hatemi. He appears as the mayor of Galata district and also tutor of Filinta Mustafa. What I like about him is that he gives messages showing the good side of Turkish culture with a short scene in each episode. For instance, during the days of a university student girl - Ozgecan Aslan - was raped and murdered by two men, Kadi Giyaseddin had a scene saying that treating women bad is unacceptable. Of course he bases his arguments on Islam but I find him as a very powerful character in that sense.

Mesmerizing
sschoch-2432323 September 2019
I don't have time to do justice to this great series, but I wanted to weigh in on the applause for a quality of entertainment I haven't had in a long time. Here or some random thoughts to share. The writers and the actors are first rate. It's been a very, very long time since I cried over a scene. The subtitles are so unnoticeable that sometimes I will get up from watching and then realize I am going to miss something. The suspense sometimes is so overwhelming I have to cheat and look ahead. The blessed side of Islam shines through. My one wish would be to communicate to everyone involved to let them know how much their talents are appreciated.

Against Stale Series With Unusual Features
mtalhaayyildiz5 August 2015
It's obviously a fresh breath on Turkish television with it's exclusive effects that we aren't used to watch on Turkish TV channels.

There are so many positive things to say about Filinta. The headlines are cleverly crafted scenario, talented performers, surprises at the end of episodes, etc..

You are expected to understand the first episodes fully to be able to follow the subject of the other episodes. Otherwise it is not easy to understand what is going on in any episode. So viewers should keep in mind.

I would strongly suggest that anyone who has not yet seen it give it a try. Definitely is the best TV series ever made in Turkey.

Brilliant in every way
pie-7835123 October 2020
This is one of the best series I have ever seen. Every actor is outstanding giving you a real feel for the storyline. The costumes/dress and scenes are a credit to the whole storyline. The contrasting fight between good and evil, integrity and dishonesty are portrayed with humour, wit, deviousness, deceit and a passion for truth to face and win against evil. I am impressed with the high morality the good guys observe against criminals and rotten people. I am also impressed with the portrayal of the Turkish people (Ottomans) Never a dull moment in this most outstanding series.
