Talking about Red Hood, Alfred and Selina
joaokrauss26 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This episode, Red Hood, was quite interesting. The origin of the gang that gives name to the episode was one of my favorites till this moment because I think that makes a lot sense. The fact that initially the gang "helped the people" makes the future entrance of Gotham's citizens in the gang very coherent. And I think the scene where a random guy gets the hood from the floor and wears it amazing!

At the beginning of the series, the bad-ass Alfred was very different from the previous versions to me and that's why I did not like the character. However, the series has progressed and the butler has appeared more and the character became one of my favorite ones thanks to the same reason that I initially didn't like him. In this episode became clearer the background of the character. Moreover, David O'Hara plays his character very well, although he has some no- sense scenes, like the fact he suddenly starts to train Bruce without a reason. My complaining about Alfred'story says about what happens in the end of the episode. OK, getting Alfred in some danger is necessary because thanks to this, we can see some cool action sequences. However, please do not do this trying to get some emotional reaction, because we know that the character is not going to die in the series: he will still have a very long life beside Bruce.

There is one subtle thing in this episode that is very interesting: Barbara's attempt to make Selina Kyle a more vain girl and the attempt to make the girl use his beauty as a weapon. I have one positive and a negative about this. The positive is that is necessary to get Selina in the reality that female beauty can be a weapon, because in every media that the character appears, in addition to use martial skills, she uses the beauty and sensuality, things that our little Cat Woman still haven't used. Then this characteristic of the character can start to be developed in order to Selina become a true femme fatale. The negative says about something that I always complain about the series: everything is too interconnected. Every origin of the villains are connected to Jim Gordon. Because of this, the fact that the person who showed her was Barbara, even in a subtle way, bothers me.

About Fish in this episode, I just have two things to talk: I hope the referenced doctor turns to be Hugo Strange and that scene where Fish rip off her eyes was very bad.

Great, except for Penguin and the Fish Eye stew
shesetsail21 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
For the most part, this is a fine episode. The whole Red Hood story is simple, almost throw-away comic book stuff, and yet it works; 'We're stealing the bank's money, not yours' Red Hood becomes Robin Hood, and the people love him. Yes, it's cool. The Reggie/Alfred/Wayne Enterprises meets Monsters Inc plot line has so many clever little chip-ins, and even the Barbara vacuum has an interesting moment, when Selina dismisses Barbara's weirdly creepy attempt to become big sister/ seduction tutor. So far so good.

But Penguin is suffering; transpires he really is a master criminal in the making and not a club manager. Who knew? Also, his limp is becoming more pronounced with every episode and is developing a touch of the Igors.Someone tell him to reign it in.

Penguin's rubbish plottage looks like West Wing compared to what's happening to Fish Mooney. I mean, god, this is a laboured long entrance for the Dollmaker. I'm bored with him and he hasn't even made an entrance yet. But let's look at the 'logic' of it; Fish unites the inmates of the cells into a group with one purpose. Having established this power base with no greater bargaining chip than the fact that it can kill its members, she promptly leaves it all behind and goes upstairs by herself when invited. When she learns they want to take her eyes, she grabs the nearest spoon (What happened to the knife she stole in order to become leader?) gouges her own eye out and stamps on it. I don't care how the writers flange this in retrospect, it's beyond stupid.

Subplots lift episode
Fluke_Skywalker7 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The strong subplot involving Alfred's ex-military friend really lifts what is otherwise another mediocre filler episode. David O'Hara is fantastic as Reggie, and he and Sean Pertwee are great together. The confrontation between them was like a sucker punch and the twist really caught me by surprise.

The Penguin and Fish subplots continue to spin their wheels, though a shocking turn in the latter's was at least good for a gasp. I will say that although she has heretofore been my least favorite character, Barbara had a really nice turn here (albeit brief) as she struggles to cope with losing Jim and her problems alcohol.
