All I seem to remember is that there was a war of sorts between Gaga and Perry because Roar and Applause were released around the same time... I will refrain from saying which side I was on...

Given this is a more recent song and video from Lady Gaga, I have to say it was a positive surprise. It is definitely a step up again and the music video directed by Vinoodh Matadin and Inez van Lamsweerde is better than most her other videos too. Those two directed Björk in the past as well, just like the director from gaga's "Born This Way"-video. Finally, we don't get a lengthy pretentious monologue from her like in previous videos, but it is just 4 minutes of music. For most of the time, we see a mix of black and white and very bright colors here, some solid animation and Gaga is at least not dancing in underwear for the whole video. By no means a great piece of art, but still an improvement she will hopefully build on in coming years.
