The war is coming!
hp1993-739-9477855 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
And here we are! Metatron feels lonely, poor guy! (I swear I'd stab him first I met him...)Whatever. A group of "singing-angels" kills a bunch of the angles from another team. This shows us how the war is going to be led. Cas tries to investigate, Sam and Dean are on their way to help. BUT Ezekiel has problem with it again. After they went together in a bar, Zeke has to go out and surprise! Metatron is aware of Ezekiel's non-Ezekiel face. Who is he? Dean protects his brother (Fool!), so he send Cas again away. Another murder happens, new leader of the angels has risen - Malachi, the anarchist. Cas prays for help, who comes, but it was a(innocent) trap. Malachi and Theo capture Cas and torture him. Meanwhile "Not-Ezekiel" is dating Metatron - so now we know Gadreel is his name. He was supposed to keep evil away from the Paradise and he failed. But Metatron has a plan for him; they can create new Heaven for a few of the chosen ones. Metatron's name: "X", the new God in fact (of the heavenly Hell I'd say). During Cas's torment, he found out that real Ezekiel hadn't survived the expulsion. Human-Cas outsmarts Theo, steals his Grace and goes into battle. He informs Dean about Ezekiel's death and his will to fight. Dean immediately speaks to Kevin, trying to find out a spell, that could make Gadreel deaf. Although this Gadreel is really good actor, he was commanded by Metatron to neutralize someone and in the end we understand. Kevin is dead!

What a great mid-season finale! The atmosphere is so chaotic, like in a real war, the murders (not talking about Kev's) are great delivered (Singing bus!). Big standing ovations to the actors! New characters (Theo (for a while), Malachi) are well introduced, Misha and the torture, Misha and his prayers, Misha in the bar! CAS is back on the road, or "in the town" as he says. The phone call to Dean - it reminded me season 4 in some ways..I don't know why, but the feeling was there! Jared Padalecki and his 2 at once characters? *Clap, clap* And Jensen Ackles. I have to admit, that the end made me cry, I'm proud to say it to honor Jared, Osric and Jensen who delivered very emotional finale (again!).

Loads of questions lie ahead - what now with Gadreel, how to get back Sam, what about Crowley and the deal that's going to be made, what about angels and their on-going war now, when Cas is "ON", how about the reaction of demons- especially our Queen of Hell and what about Kevin or another prophet? Dean, Cas, I wish you good luck!

10/10, definitely!

Finally!!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to try and not add any spoilers but since I don't want to get blacklisted, I clicked the box. I am a HUGE fan of Supernatural. As a huge fan I have to say I have been waiting since the end of season 5 for them to do an episode and season that keeps you just waiting till the next week to see what happens. Season 9 grabs you and really holds you. Now I personally didn't understand what a mid-season finale was all about or why it was needed, other than to make views mad and so on. However, I really understand it now and I will say this, I NEVER saw how this episode was gonna end. I absolutely loved it and any fan will to. It's griping, it's exciting and like I said you never see it coming at the end.... That's not to say all of it was surprising but by far the best episode in four years. It will remind you why you fell in love with this show and you will actually be impatient to see the next episode and how this season will play out

Midseason Finale was good, not great

Warning: Spoilers
So I did enjoy this episode, but am not super thrilled with the arc the story line is taking. Not a huge fan of Sam dying all the time, and angels are old news at this point. The revelation of the angel not being a random angel but the scapegoat for the serpent entering the garden was also supposed to be big news, but everyone knew this guy was going to be bad news from the beginning, so I could care less. It's still better than being possessed by a demon right? The story line I like is Crowley. I want to see what happens with him. Cas is obviously going to eventually be an angel in the end, but I want to see what happens to Crowley becoming more human and part of the gang.

Solid melodrama but feels muted
CubsandCulture18 September 2020
The angel war that forms a central chunk of the season is really compelling. This episode goes a long way towards fleshing out the material. But in the end I feel like the writers pulled some punches on the angel war being an allegory for sectarian conflict. The episode flirts with being subversive-the opening for example takes pot shots at organized religion. But it never settles into an critique.

That said the melodrama of the episode is great. I love Zeke's backstory. It fits in really well with the characterization of both Sam and Dean.

Angel wars

Maybe if they had a good baddie angel i would be more interestes. Balt or whatever were just there and not interesting. The opening was pretty good. The whole Sam thing crushing down was good. But another metatron-castiel repeat...

Angel gangs
blackmagpie-6236827 May 2018
This episode is a bit disappointing in that it deals with angel politics and rival angel gangs (a plot more suited to shows like house of cards or the likes of) and an identity crisis for Castiel (again). looks like Metatron is turning into simply another overreaching angel like Castiel in older seasons so nothing new here either. Overall a pretty boring episode with a non challenging angel story offset only by the supercharged last couple of minutes.

Watchable
mm-398 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
There is another war with the angels. The fights are becoming redundant. Dean is burnt on another deal! The viewer wonders if Sam is really Sam. Who or what is the angel which is healing Sam. What did the angel do in heaven do be locked away? Can he be trusted? It sounds like there is no more Sam. Why is megatron wanting control of heaven? Does he want to be God? Is he Lucifer? Kevin the comic relief is the story's surprise twist. A huge plan is happening with a few character. A repeat main story line of a few years back with a new twist. A been there done that repeat season. Still watchable. Holy Terror is six stars out of ten.
