Entertaining

I really enjoyed this amusing family dramedy. I have been watching a lot of foreign Netflix and there is so much much to enjoy from Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

I particularly like the period show so this was bit different. What was interesting is that all the classic fish out of water, culture clash tropes work what ever the combination.

What did drive me bonkers though was the accents of the dubbed characters. Why do Sameer and the daughter have Saudi accents? They are both British! This is a weird story distorting error. It is not a deal breaker, but you have to remind yourself who is from where.

Warm and nostalgic

I watched this show with zero expectations and I was surprised how it touched my heart and I actually finished it in tears , maybe I could relate, the family relationship is well structured and realistic and the lovely summar made it even more light and fun I actually discovered that I have family issues through this show , and unexpectedly I ended it with tears , couldn't imagine I will ever cry over an Arabic show ! But bravo everyone in this set was correctly casted the father and the mother were so good and the divorce conversation was so realistic and I hope I see more shows talking bravely about social issues that we ignore Great job !

Excellent dramedy

Warning: Spoilers
There's a lot to love about this dramedy. A lot of on-the-nose satire about cultural prejudice woven around an interesting and engaging plot. The majority of the acting is engaging despite not all characters being explored enough. The story carries the show as events unravel around the protagonist with several artistic choices that serve the story including camera angles, close ups, and lighting which was good in supporting the story without taking attention away from it, it felt smooth and natural. Overall, this is another well earned medal on the writers, cast and crew and the Saudi film and tv making scene. If there is one thing that I would have liked to see is a little more insight into the Mona's life that better understand explains her behaviour. Sure, she feels connected to her sister but a little more insight would have been welcomed to better balance her character, also, Sofian (the driver/pool guy) could have had a little more to say/do other than his current position to support part of the plot related to prejudice. Those aren't issues perse but as a viewee I think they would have added to an otherwise great show.

What happens when a Pakistani enters an Arabic show?
rashidehzaz19 November 2023
For sometime after watching numerous Arabic shows on Netflix, specifically from Egypt. I ever so wonder if a show would centre around a Pakistani crossing paths with an Arab? We've seen plenty of stories of them with white or Indian, so maybe this would be a nice change and my wish came true finally.

This show never disappoints me, it has comedy, good story progression and moral values like accepting one who is off a different race, culture, country and marriage status. Definitely my new fave Arabic show as a Pakistani myself 😂

8.5/10 - sweet and short, wish there was a second season for it.

Seriously?
mariam-shehabkh30 November 2023
Basically this series shows that anyone who is following our tradition is close minded and the ones who are free to break them are open minded. Even the beautiful elements in our culture they made it look disgusting. In Ramadan women dress up very nicely and although it's traditional wear, still they are unique and fashionable. I just don't get why there are million references on how much they feel disgusted when wearing the traditional clothes and the hijab!!! No one said they should be wearing it but also why would they look disgusted when they have to wear it once for a family gathering during Ramadan? I mean this is a Saudi show, not an American show, can we at least try something different than the usual depictions of how we look into Arab culture??? They have only one way to show if a woman is open minded and educated; she isn't wearing the head scarf no one should tell her what to wear! Very typical and actually a bit dated picture of how women should look like? The clashing element in the show is exaggerated and disrespectful. But of course this is coming from Netflix so can't really expect anything better.

Light hearted series
khaledshaik20 November 2023
Coming to the cast - everyone was decent be it the Father, Mother, Lamar, Sufiyan. Everyone has done a good job justifying their roles.

As the character - Sameer played by Hamza Haq. Like overall look & feel of the series. He appears like strictly ornamental.

Razan - was totally expressionless throughout the series with that straight face, couldn't pull off with the comic part or either be it a serious conversations.

Coming to the story part - it is kinda of lighthearted, but was expecting some more gags and comic punch line. Since the concept was a mix culture about Saudi and Pakistani's culture it could have been a better one, like how the differences could be. And adding more to Sameer's part in how he could impress their Saudi mentality family - could have been a fun one.

Overall - a good attempt with this new concept.

Very well executed, an absolute stand out
robinhio84_18 November 2023
This mini series has everything, realistic characters, serious issues, humour and it will be very relatable for anyone from an Arabic or wider Asian culture. Is it a representative of all Saudi people, no of course not, but that it doesn't aim to be. It aims to be funny whilst presenting topics that are relevant. And it does it perfectly.

When thinking about cinema and series, few titles bring high production very as well as an international touch. This series nailed both of these thing, while being very funny. The performances are insanely convincing and my only criticism is that one more episode would probably been great! Hope to see more series like this on Netflix. Only saw it coz it was recommended during my stay in Saudi Arabia and will definitely recommend it to my friends both in and outside of the cultures in the series.

Childish and trite
qui_j24 November 2023
This childishly written series attempts to highlight the issues of divorce, spouse abuse, mixed marriages and racism in Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, in order to get past censorship there, the script has to be as simple and superficial as possible. The acting is very amateurish with the lead actress moving her body and head in a series of jerky, puppet like manner, as she were a robotic marionette. The lead actor has a constant look of anguish on his face and speaks in short, hushed tones.

While the theme of exposing the problematic issues that exist in Saudi life, it really does not tackle them that seriously.

refreshing change from saccharine artificial dramas
tarekali-1990926 November 2023
It has been a while since we saw such a delightful family comedy miniseries. This brave show does not hesitate to delve into the reality of modern families in the Islamic world, especially in the often misunderstood Saudi culture. Ultimately people are no different all over the world, parents and kids struggle to connect, partners try to make marriages work, people in general try to overcome their biases, divorce tears families apart and siblings struggle to find equilibrium in their domination game.

The show gives a nice glimpse of society in modern Saudia Arabia and de-mystifies many misconceptions. Many life lessons I have encountered are illustrated here, with plenty of warnings. Crashing Eid is a refreshing change from saccharine artificial dramas and bravely exposes the raw reality of emotional and family challenges.

Funny, realistic, sad but with a happy ending, a romantic show without all the disgusting PDA? YES PLEASEEEE
dasourmulla12 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
If you couldnt tell from my title and rating, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT...

Also dont hear to the reviews saying the show is saying abayas are disgusting and hijab is wrong and bla bla bla

The show is following a protagonist that is more western-aligned and loves to show her freedom by the way she dresses and thinks, she does not hold back, and for me personally, I have many people like her in my family, this only adds to the show's realism.

Not to mention the absolutely funny moments that had me laughing out loud, the sad and depressing realities of domestic violence, the reaction of family members to private issues that might ruin "your reputation" or stuff like that, this show truly shows all the things hidden in Saudi families.

Ofcourse not all families are like that, not all families have a liberal parent, a funny yet unsupportive brother, a harsh mother, and issues with extended family members. But in this show, is this setting, in this family, everything is 100% realistic.

Very Truthful and Realistic , many girls in the Saudi culture are suffering from a controlling mother and Recent. Divorce, trying so hard to be independent .

Lamar , found Batel doing. Amazing Job playing the confused daughter , paying what her mom done by isolating her from her father and her home country .

Smeer , Hamza was the 2nd least character that not really clear too me , yet did a good job with being lost in the chaos of the families .

Razan Father , khaled al Harbi. Is. Very fun and played the part very well , the most funny guy in the show honestly .

Sofian , not a big fan honestly of how he played a Divorce father not Being able to see his kid , lake of emotion and weak character. In my POV.

Mazin , The ex Husband , I hated that guy , insane phsycho but somehow felt sorry for him by the end of the show . I highly believe he is the perfect fit.

Amazing Show
batoolmk19 March 2024
I enjoyed watching this series because it tackled a lot of serious issues in a light hearted and funny way. The characters were all likeable and relatable (Lamar was personally my favorite) and it honestly made me see Saudi Arabia in a different light.

Being a woman, I also saw how damaging a divorce is to a man especially when it comes to child custody and the show has depicted that scenario in a beautiful way.

I feel like people who have issues with the show either don't like the truth (of divorce/ 2nd marriages/ abuse/ inter-cultural relationships/ racism) or they're just trying to avoid it.

Hats off to the entire Crashing Eid team! The actors/actresses were amazing and the production was 10/10.

intersting insight in typical modern saudi family
amanmishracool12 April 2024
Its a beautiful family show that covers various topics from feminism to racism to domestic violence. Really fun to watch and has changed my perspective of Saudi. It shows how the arab world is not so different from the rest of the world. Also, covers the struggles faced due to generation gap. Love the characters especially Razan's father. Its a good thing that they kept it short and sweet and did not try to hide the flaws in an arab society. Casting for the show is really good too which keeps the show in place

Overall it is good show to binge with family, and can be enjoyed by all age group Highly recommend.
