Spoiler. Correction: Not the doctor but the prison dog waitress
nellirene16 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
If we needed to learn that Walt was tough, we got another chance to see just how tough. I don't know FBI procedures, federal prisons, or anything else, so I can't comment on procedure. The show has already established that Walt sees omens, as in owls presaging death, in the very first episode. So, having hypoxia affect him at greater than 11,000 feet, and seeing dead people and talking to invisible friends, is not out of a reasonable plot line. I was impressed with the filming during storms and up steep sides of mountains. I bet everyone was exhausted after each day's shoot. I wanted to correct the mistaken statement that the criminal psychologist 'fell' for Dwight, the sociopath serial killer. SPOILER but not very: The person who aided Dwight was the waitress who had previously met him with her dogs during a prison ministry with dogs program. Too bad they used that plot option because here, Paws in Prison is an excellent program and doesn't need bad press.

OK, It Wasn't That Bad

Yes, I agree with many of the plot holes others have pointed out. I'll take three stars off for that. But it is engaging and keeps things moving and Walt is a juggernaut. There are some real scenes of danger. I do have a bit of trouble with the hallucinations, but that has been incorporated into the series before. I do agree that the club sandwich thing is a bit much. Anyway, I'll still hang in there. The blizzard is an intense enemy.

Down the Toilet

Warning: Spoilers
Although this show is on my C-list I was a little excited by its return. I do enjoy the locations and the stoic lead.

However the just tolerable writing took a nosedive with this episode when they hinged the plot on a prison escape too ridiculous for anyone with an attention span above5 seconds.

Without going into detail, I'll just give you one of the many things that could have gone wrong with this plan: The FBI agent doesn't order club sandwiches.

In a mystery, logic shouldn't wait until the final act to make an appearance.

I love this show, but

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is absolute garbage! What if the FBI agent hadn't ordered Club sandwiches? How did the handcuff picks get in the sandwiches without anyone seeing? Then Walt goes traipsing off in a blizzard, walking through 3-foot snow. Without snowshoes? C'mon! I live in the U.P. where we get a ton of snow, too. Everyone has snowshoes. Surely a sheriff in Wyoming would have snowshoes in his vehicle, or should anyway. And why would he get left there without a vehicle, just to catch these guys? He sends the deputy chic off, like there is some pressing reason to get one of the convicts back to the jail. Instead Walt just practically freezes to death from his out of character stupidity. The whole plot, the shrink copper falling in love with the serial killer, et al, is just plain stupid. Epic fail on this episode.

Utterly garbage episode in previously good series
kleedham5 June 2015
I absolutely agree with OGRastamon. This episode is appalling garbage. How did this nonsensical trash get accepted as part of a series that previously seemed to be actually created and produced by intelligent human beings? This episode just epitomizes the worst kind of trash perpetuated in TV crime shows. Fatuous, ill-conceived rubbish about "serial killers" with ridiculous pop-psychology and absurd plotting. This kind of rubbish literally makes me nauseous. And Longmire was, in the first season, a really original and intelligent series. How did this abomination get to production?!! What an obscene insult to the actors, who have clearly shown they are worth much more than this dreck.

Vic ruined this one
kwhite19847 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I like the show all around, and the episode was not bad (even if a bit unrealistic), but Vic's bleeding heart, off- the-rails attitude the entire episode was really annoying. And the portrayal of the FBI guys as a-holes who come in and don't share anything with any of the local cops is also bad, but I realize that's a Hollywood staple. I work in federal law enforcement, and we always put the local guys to work. A joint task force gets put together, and we are all able to work together to solve the problem. There are sometimes turf wars between federal agencies on the scene, but, at the end of the day, everyone realizes that the local cops know more about the area than anyone else, and it's (generally) an environment of respect to see the issue to a timely conclusion. Example: No one I've ever met in the industry would ever walk into a local police station with no forewarning, without introducing themselves, and just say "don't you have a back up generator??"

TL;DR: Vic has a bleeding heart that she somehow developed between the last episode of season 1 and the premiere for season 2, and she just screams at everyone the whole time instead of using logical decision-making.
