Really amazed at the wealth of talent involved, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Practically every West End musical is represented, film and TV personalities from America, top jazz artists, pop stars, bizarre nightclub shows, Page 3 girls, and you feel like you're right there. Intimate, unrehearsed, enormously entertaining glimpse of a bygone era when people cared about each other. The styling and pace are terrific, without being glitzy or pushy.

Things that stand out in particular: Charlene Tilton's interview is loaded with tough talk, sparkling enthusiasm, and real tenderness. Ditto Edwin Starr, in one of his last and best interviews (plus a great filmed performance of his hit disco tune 'I'm A Devil'). The show is topped at the end by walking on stage with The Gypsy Kings at Windsor Great Park; not a front row seat, but right on stage as they perform.

Best of all was the lovely jazz contralto Sue Shaddock backed by Terry Disley in two poetic ballads that are simply mind-blowing in haunting, soaring originality, filmed with a deft touch of respect and deeply evocative glamor.

Maybe you have to be a certain age or disposition to enjoy this show, but it's a marvelous document of the best of London's night life 25 years ago (it was produced in 1990). Tech work was absolutely gorgeous, front to back.
