Great but...

It's a fun ride. Excellent in nearly every way - Its dialogue, cinematography, music, etc., but Tommy's loveblindness when it comes to Grace is a bit daft. How can he not connect the dots? A crime family would never let a beautiful stranger get so close to the family (while deceiving them).

So good I thought it was the season finale. So many great moments in this episode, with all the storylines coming to a head and making for a captivating show. Great acting and cinematography.

Justice!!

This episode was great, with memorable intense moments! It is clear the we qre getting closer to the end, as things are shaping up and major events are happening! Thise episode continues the trend of brutality when characters go into fights for their lives!

I also fundet this episode to be the most emotional as we are getting to know the characters and grow more sympethatic with them! There is a certain dark scene neaf the end that really stuck with me! We know have a clear idea who to root for in this world where everyone does what is best for themselves or their familly!

I am very excited too see how the season ends!

Delivers a Punch to the Gut!
gab-147123 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The penultimate episode of Peaky Blinder's first season is a fiery episode with gut-wrenching scenes that will stay with you. Paul Anderson takes the limelight this episode as "the head of the family" Arthur Jr. He goes through some intense daddy issues as he tries to prove himself but all for naught. His response is a suicide attempt that will make your heart stop because you feel so much for the guy. That and the tension that builds between Tommy and IRA agent Byrnes who declares to be Tommy's "judge, jury, and executioner." This really brings out the best of Cillian Murphy who nailed every scene. Not to mention that Tommy and Grace finally are in love with one another. If I did not know better, I felt like this could have been the first season's finale as many storylines seem complete, but we still have one more episode to go!

A father comes home! After a decade away from the family, Arthur Senior (played brilliantly by Tommy Flanagan whose scars added intimidation) returns home. Tommy wants him to leave, but Arthur believes he is a changed man. Arthur gives him a small fortune so he can build a casino in America. When he leaves with no intention of being in Arthur's life, the eldest son becomes extremely distraught. The IRA comes poking around about the stolen arms, so Grace helps Tommy set a trap for them. Grace also confesses her love for Tommy to Inspector Campbell and tells him to leave Tommy alone if she gives up the stolen arms. In response, Campbell proposes a marriage between the two in which they refuse. After Arthur's suicide attempt, Tommy tries to make things right for him, Arthur, and John by making them partners in a legalized gambling business.

This episode packs a punch. It is very well acted from Murphy, Anderson, and Sam Neill who is great showing jealously rage. The episode doesn't show much of Ada's self-exile or Freddie's imprisonment, but I am sure that storyline will be wrapped up in the finale. The sexual tension that was bubbling underneath the surface between Tommy and Grace finally comes to light. Fantastic episode!

My Grade: A.

Great Episode

Warning: Spoilers
This is the episode Arthur (Paul Anderson) became my favorite Shelby. The heart break and anguish he showed as Arthur Sr (Tommy Flanagan)was leaving town broke my heart and made my eyes leak.

A Bleaker Episode With A More Uplifting Ending...
madelynmcfly-202746 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A bleak episode with a more uplifting ending. I'm liking Arthur's character more than I expected to, and it was heartbreaking to see what he went through in this episode. Learning about the Shelby father pissed me off, and I knew how the relationship was, and I knew how it was going to go, but it was still sad. The sets in this show are absolutely stunning, and a ton of the look of the show is of high quality and unlike anything I've really seen before. Anyway, Grace and Tommy are quite the pair, and I enjoy seeing their relationship progress. Inspector Campbell is a character that I strongly dislike, and his proposal to Grace was... Gross. I'm just going to say it. Kinda gross. I also find Campbell to be an incredibly dishonourable character, so I'm not entirely sure where that will go in the future. This is an unrelated note, but Finn is very cute and kinda balances tone a little. Finally, the ending of the show was quite good, seeing their business growing, and the soundtrack kicking in, it was great, and left me smiling by the end. Great episode.

I feel so bad for Arthur... He just wanted to have a good relationship with his father

Warning: Spoilers
You guys are gonna ADORE what's coming next. Everyone wants Grace to be something for them, and she doesn't know who she is. It's an interesting character for folks to consider. Yes there were hints of a romance between grace and Campbell, at least from his side. But grace, and usually the audience, interpret it as like a fatherly type of love, instead of what it really is. Edinburgh is still pretty far from Birmingham,. 5 and a half hours by car today. Arthur is a beast as a fighter, trust me. It was just cause he didn't wanna fight his dad, that's all. He only wanted a good relationship with him. If it was anyone outside of their family, Arthur would literally kill them.

Some strange narrative choices, but an eventful and stylish ride regardless

Warning: Spoilers
My overall rating of "Peaky Blinders"'s Season 1: 5/10.

This episode has quite a lot of significant, surprising and interesting plot developments that a series with less integrity would've turned into 3-4 episodes. "Peaky Blinders" prefers to maintain a solid pace, however. Now, don't confuse it for a lack of melodrama: the Inspector's confession/love-triangle is nothing short of legitimately bizarre, and it sinks the episode going forward. There are also some overlong scenes: namely Thomas' being choked-out and Thomas' getting laid, and some moments weren't thought through as much (So did Grace count on the Inspector calling off the search? Then still, why would Thomas believe he'd be safe at her place, not knowing that she's the snitch and the Inspector wouldn't jeopardise her? Was he just so certain nobody would speak; and the police would have no information on her existence or lodgings?)

However, I also have praise: the whole IRA plotline/resolution is inspired, Arthur's sideplot while worn-out and cliched is competently delivered, and many other scenes and plotlines are all appropriately meaningful and stylish (the series is never found lacking in the latter way, of course). Moss is fantastic, Grace is great, the Inspector competently plays out his strangely-written character... All is well.

Well

Warning: Spoilers
This episode felt like a season finale. Many storylines came to an apparent end and everything about else just pointed to a season finale but there is still one more episode. Thomas is a smart dude however whenever it comes to grace he just loses all his wits. Very inconsistent. What I like is this distant relationship between these two. It shows how Thomas is. He is just a very distant - some would say cold hearted - person and has problems showing affection.
