"Generally I doing all the chasing, unless a bull is running towards me with an Axe!"
MovieFinatic21 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Hands down, "Run", is the best most floridly extenuating episode of the season. It is full of suspense and unprecedented actions. The writing, directing and cinematography is excellent, and features one of Dexter's best kills.

Written By Wendy West, one of the most commendable writers on Dexter for writing the Season 4 Trinity thanksgiving episode and the Zoe Kruger episode makes an amazing comeback with this great episode titled, "Run". This episode is more like the second part for episode 3, "Buck The System". We see a lot of emotion and even some romantic undertones during the episode, we learn more about Hannah, see Isaac's darker side and learn more about Viktor. This episode is amazingly done and ends on a fantastic cliffhanger, that leaves you wanting to see more.

The Ray Speltzer kill, was undoubtedly one of the best in the series, as kill room scenes are always great when Dexter is a little psycho. We also saw Dexter in a fight with Ray that ended badly and nearly made him a vicious victim.

Overall, this episode from me, gets a 10/10 for being just a really amazing episode. I can't wait to see next week's episode, "Swim Deep", as Season 7 is just beginning to get really suspenseful and exciting.

We're all Glad I guess
botrytis22 October 2012
For me this episode was the perfect cameo for Dexter for a long time ( well, maybe next to the first one).

With this serious situation between Deb and Dex makes the whole Series different, set it to a new direction to go through, a way which non of us can predict where it ends, and how. This episode set many of the past elements into the fire, to sacrifice for something new (" To move on") and it's just has started the fire inside me.

It's a solid episode, with different psychopaths, and the story just gets complicated, how we always wanted to. It gets more suspenseful, reminds me of the old first two seasons tone, and maybe this season becomes another great one besides them.

"Are you...?" = "Run"

Dexter is so back!
chandler_joey22 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is my first review for an episode. So amazing was it, I had to share it.

This season is turning out to be the best season of 'Dexter'. What an episode! 'Run' is full of suspense and twists. The writing and direction is brilliant.

Some of the scenes deserve a special mention: Dexter: Speltzer forces me to go down, what happens if go up. Funny!

Dexter lays a card for Speltzer 'Stay'. Epic!

One of the best kills of the season, and series in fact. I was so disappointed with the 'airport' kill in the first episode. (in terms of realistic) This one was so epic!

The SCORE of this episode is the best in the series, esp. the tune that plays when Dexter kills Spleltzer.

And the last scene, Debra: I am glad, what does it make me? Dexter: Human. Fantastic! There were few others, but I don't want to give it all away.

10/10. Just an amazing episode, I am so looking forward for the next episode. What a fantastic start to Season 7. WATCH IT.

Running and Moving on

The police officers arrest the criminal Ray Speltzer and then the Miami Metro gets his confession when Debra provokes him. However a judge releases the killer based on the violation of the Miranda rights during the arresting. When Debra sees Ray mocking on Melanie's funeral, she acts like deranged against the killer. Isaak and his right hand George decides to find a scapegoat to assume the murder of Detective Mike Anderson and they force the barman of the strip club to assume the murder and commit suicide. Now they are researching Dexter's life since they believe he used his boat to dump Viktor's body in the sea. Angel does not buy that the barman has killed Kaja, Viktor and Mike Anderson and committed suicide, but Quinn and the department wants to close the case.

"Run" shows Debra confused and divided, understanding her brother's urge for killing the scum of the society, but still not accepting him. Hannah McKay and Dexter seem to have a kind of attraction for each other. Now Dexter gets rid of his blood slides moving on to another step of his disturbed life without trophy to recollect his victims. My vote is nine.

A Minotaur runs through his labyrinth, but finds out he's a mouse in Dexter's social laboratory
Autlan22 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Working through the highs and lows we have come to expect for Dexter's flavour of game: exhilaration when they smile in the face of impudence, validation of their efforts when fate helps them beat the system and an unhumoured tantrum when they realise might is alright, until a bigger monster comes to drop the platinum rule. This episode checks all those boxes and throws in a great opponent: juiced to the gills, broly, looks like he could shift a ton of battle ropes, a beef bus.

The season six finale saw the farce of Dexter and Deb's relationship finally, thankfully, shattered after five seasons of denial. In this episode, Deb's turmoil over the consequences of her inaction forces Dexter to ruminate on the price Rita paid for his inaction and the possibility of further unpaid debts. Deb's acceptance of Dexter's brand of humanity and Dexter's departure from adolescent familiarity while still coddling his screaming Dark Passenger is a return to purpose that hasn't been seen since the end of season one. Oh, Brian!

Unfortunately, it's starting to look like these bridges were built for scorn to drive this season's hellfire over and it doesn't taste like Sunday School Mythology. I feel like I'm waking up in the right place, but I don't know how I got here.

p.s. Harry should have materialised to tell you he told you so.

Human
fokuro6 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It is time to move on, but also time to face the past and all the things it has brought. Deb is having a hard time dealing with her emotions, which are all mixed up, because, in fact, she understands and even, in some level, approves what Dexter does.

Speltzer proved himself to be a worthy adversary for Dexter, and also served to contribute nicely to the Dexter and Debra plot. However, he was pure muscle, whereas our other "villain" this season, Isaak, is all about intimidation and cunning will power. That scene where he watches the bartender put a bullet through his head without even blinking was almost scary.

Nonetheless, after all, Isaak is human too, and we're shown that in this episode. He promises to be a very interesting character, and so far Ray Stevenson is keeping up to what's asked of him.

Are we watching Dexter become more humane too, season after season, after getting in closer touch with the truth about himself? This is one of the strongest points in the show, and season 7 and this episode explored it masterfully so far.

1. Spetlzer is caught but walks 2. Dexter has plays cat and mouse with speltzer 3. And eventually kills him

The writers are pulling a very difficult job which is to navigate the complex relationship of Debra and Dexter after the big reveal. Both are very complex characters with complex thoughts and feelings about the current situation. I think the writers are untangling it very well so far. Besides the occasional distractions like the mob plot, this is focused and sustained writing. I applaud the writers for that. Only episode 4 and it's already exceeded my expectations.

While in the bath Debra has a very strange dram were she is in a bath of blood and cannot stop it from coming out. The next day Debra talks to Dexter about the trinity killer so he has to tell her that he killed Arthur a very long time ago. LaGuerta comes in with information that Ray was able to walk as the video of the police making a mistake when they were arresting him, he was able to walk and now no one knows where he is. At the suicide attempt it seems a bit to suspicious that this man would kill himself with his family pictures on the wall. Dexter finds Ray back at his job and he goes searching in his RV. When he looks at the trophies Ray collected a fight breaks loose between the two as Ray walks in on Dexter. Dexter then wakes up in the middle of no where and Ray chases after him with an Axe in his bull mask. The chase begins between Dexter and Ray as he goes through his masterpiece of a maze. When Dexter goes upstairs he sees a way out. When Dexter gets away he sends Harrison to Orlando so he can take on Ray without anyone getting hurt. At the funeral Ray is there and Debra goes crazy on him. Angel continues his theories that it was not the bartender and Quinn says he cannot do it tonight as he is going on a date. Dexter is able to find Ray putting him on a bed after hitting him with a shovel. While Dexter puts Ray's dead body into the fire he also puts his slides getting rid of any evidence. Debra is the one to collect Dexter and he tells her that the smoke she sees is Speltzer, she for once feels glad of a murder he has done which could change her from now on. Great Episode and Michael was fantastic all through out like he always is.

S7.E4 - Speltzer [9/10]
panagiotis199325 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S7. E4) My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 7 Episode 4 ''Run'': Episode 3 was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Speltzer's confession was pretty easy. I feel so bad for the barman, all he wanted was a better life for his family and Sirko made him kill himself, I hate Sirko so much right now. Dex is so right, the system lets these monsters walk free. Oh boy Speltzer is a beast. Seems that Speltzer is not easy to kill. I will enjoy watching Dex kill Sirko so much. Wow, Dex got rid of his blood slides, that's insane. Overall a great episode, my rating is 9/10.

Warning: Spoilers
This series goes downhill fast despite legionnaire Titus Pullo carrying the show. The cast seems lost in a bumbling rushed script written by a burned out writer. The only reason watching this is to see that laguerta woman die.
