Warning: Spoilers
Scream queen Debbie Rochon stars in Jon Keeyes' (The Harrowing) latest film, which is all about a woman (Johanna Stanton) who wakes up locked in a small room with no memory of how she got there. She can't escape and is taunted by paranormal entities who are keeping her from learning how she got there and who she really is.

The beings that the nameless woman encounters have names like Husband, Wife and Innocence. Some of them are kind to her and others are anything but. So what are they? Figments of her insane imagination or actual demons?

The entire movie feels like a stage play that's been captured for film. It's way artier than you'd think and I really had the feel of British horror and BDSM infused in every frame. It's talky at times, but I took that as a way of dealing with the small budget and have seen plenty of grindhouse style movies of old that felt the same way.

There's plenty of shaming and male on female coarse dialogue here though, so if these things disturb you, this probably isn't the movie for you. I'm sure that six years ago, that felt pretty cutting edge when it was filmed, but today it feels rather forced and shock for shock's sake.

That said - it has a great look and feel, as well as a unique story unlike many recent direct to streaming films I've seen. I stayed with it until the end and wasn't ever bored, which is certainly a good thing.

dreadful

Warning: Spoilers
Fake bdsm, weak dirty talk and badly scripted sex-shaming didnt ruin this. the fact that this couldve easily been better as a one-woman stage show didnt make it unwatchable. the pseudo intellectual philosophy throughout wasnt the breaking point. this film bent to its furthest, and snapped when the circus announcer appeared, as if to be a reveal of the film as complete nonsense. its a carnival act at best, a watered down fantasy where precision and passion fall flat. a good story can be told on a budget, but a bad story is a bad story. two stars instead of one, i guess because i didnt audibly laugh at any point

Original-ish story line but......
Snowraven6913 June 2019
Poor acting, and the clearly obvious low budget let this film down, that said I gave it a score of 2 for effort.

Here, there, everywhere

Warning: Spoilers
Johanna Stanton goes to The Club and meets a couple whom she leaves with. The next thing she knows, she is to awaken in a room in which time does not seem to exist judging from the clocks on the wall. Here she meets various people including her captures who rape her. She has no memory of who she is or events and struggles to put the pieces together in a surreal room with "No Exit."

The film seemed like an artsy Sartre theater with large plastic props. The initial captive idea grew old at about 40 minutes as the script struggled to stay fresh even with the trickle of new details.

Guide: F-word, sex, rape, nudity.

Different
royeighmey31 January 2020
I wasn't sure how to rate this, so I went down the middle with a 5. Kind of resembles something you would see on stage but put in movie form. It was worth a watch but different from anything else I've seen. Ending was a bit of a surprise but made sense. I would say give it a shot but know there is some very crude sexual references in it.

Horror Play
Tweetienator9 October 2021
Per chance Nightmare Box aka Doom Room got on my screen. Like some other reviewer mentioned, the movie works rather like a stage play, as 99% percent of the movie are just playing in one room, the doom room. I watched the movie thru and it is for sure no masterpiece but a got example and study what a team who got a vision (and some technical expertise in acting, cam work, setting design) can achieve with very limited resources. Despite some flaws (especially the sounddesign is rather weak) watchable, but the format of a short movie would have been the better choice in my opinion, because the longer the movie rolls on the more it loses momentum.

Fantastic movie
eric-69429 January 2019
Right from the beginning this movie goes none stop. I loved how it unfolded and takes you on a journey with the lead actress. I swear at the start I was as lost as she was but that's some of the appeal of this film. You learn whats going on at the same pace as the lead character which means I was always on the edge of my seat. Watch this movie, immerse yourself in her world and get ready for an amazing ride.

If you are looking for another stupid repititive Insidious type movie you should not be reviewing this
andrewmcl83-170-76441618 January 2020
This is not a film for what has become todays typical big budget supposed "horror" fans with the jump scares and same old story of expelling a demon from someome who has slowly been posessed. I wouldnt even call this a horror movie, I would call it mystery and suspense. I do agree with one reviewers post that it kind of felt like a stage performance but it doesnt matter because this film is good. It has good acting, a good plot, and a good mystery. If you are okay with that you will enjoy this movie, but if you are looking for the jump-scares or gore just skip it. It is really a shame that people are reading this movie either 1 or 2 stars, or 10 stars. This is a solid 6, it would have been 7 but unfortunately I figured out what was going on before the film revealed itself.

AN AMAZING FILM!!!! DON'T MISS THIS WONDERFULLY MADE GEM!!!
haroldjones-7781529 January 2019
Me and my wife recently watched this movie, DOOM ROOM, not expecting much, but boy were we BLOWN AWAY! It's not just a horror film, but a psychological thriller of the highest standard. Think Alice in Wonderland meets the Twilight Zone. The acting was excellent and had us on the edge of our seat. I can honestly say we have never seen a film quite like this. A 10 OUT OF 10 from us!!!! WATCH IT and you'll LOVE IT!

Something different and pretty interesting
stevesky-390828 December 2019
Anyone who gives this less than 5 and all you idiots blasting this film... really? I doubt if you have a brain cell between you. This is no big budget hollywood horror. If that's all you watch this isn't for you. But what it IS is a well written and well acted piece of art that has an above average director at its helm. To make an engaging film set in just one room is hard enough in itself but to draw good actors into the mix on a very very very small budget is even more of a talent. The subject matter is very fetishistic, playing with themes of bondage and S+M a bit too much for it not to obviously be the directors own fantasy come to life. That said it is intriguing and entertaining enough to keep you watching for 90mins to see the outcome. Just don't watch it with your mum. Passing note to all the 1,2,3,4 star idiots, you have no Buisiness reviewing movies at all. Keep your views to FB.

Interesting enough
troma_freek2 May 2019
Doom Room (also released as Nightmare Box) is a low budget British surreal horror movie directed and co-written by Jon Keeyes starring Debbie Rochon. A girl with amnesia (Johanna Stanton) wakes up in a locked room with no exit and no recollection of how she got there. Inside this room our Jane Doe finds herself taunted and abused by her captors and a series of paranormal entities who keep her from learning who she really is. This movie is like a hybrid between a fringe play and a b-horror movie. Doom Room is a bit slow and not without flaws, but an interesting take on the captivity horror sub-genre.

Not as bad as some of these reviews say
summerlily-873222 January 2022
I really enjoy this movie and have watched numerous times. It keeps your attention because new characters surface and you need to put everything together like the main character in the movie has to do. Yes it all takes place in a room but that's the whole point, people!! The acting is very good for a lower budget movie!! I would recommend this movie to everyone!!
