Holly ****!
hmarci-7405519 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show is messed up. The first 12 episode was horrible, I have never felt as fustrated before the first 12 minutes of this show. The enitere show if full of unnecesery drama, the characters (excluding the protagonist) are god damn unlikeable... There is a guy called Gai, he was the most irritable character I have ever met in any series. The first 12 episode is full of plot holes too, but that is only a minor fact. After episode 12 the show wasn't bad at all, I actually do enjoyed it. (it's a 8/10) But then the end, it ruins everything. First of all Inori is the character who I don't really liked in the beggining but as the show goes on she was really likeable, a so called "created human" who learns how to feel and in the end, she dies in the most meaningless way. Beside the fact that in the end we had the least epic bossfight in history.

Enjoyable but imperfect anime
dameon_green29 April 2020
Overall a very watchable series, with an ending, if imperfect.

Pros: -Animation. (strong colors, characters, etc) -Music. (Fantastic score, opening and closing credits) -Initial plot. (Some Trope use, but the politics was a nice angle)

Cons: -Starts to loose it's way in season 2. -Tropes. -Ending Plot some really hate. -Very "short" Ending.

It Falls under a number of genre categories (Action, dystopia, political thriller, some mecha etc)

Excellent Anime...
nathanraghu-1718828 February 2020
When i checked the rating after watching this i was shocked to see just 7.1, it really deserves more really really more, it has a fantastic screen play with more than a decent story line and an excellent character development, The quality of the animation is beautiful picture perfect you can say. I don't know why it is so underrated, probably the reason for this is the story line being bit too confusing in the initial stage, That's the only reason i can come up with. Initially you really won't understand what's happening, what and why are they attacking each other, which is a good side and which is not, Anyway moving forward things will start picking up and you will get proper clarity for all that has happened and what is happening, it may not give you any anxiety or a high level curiosity but still It is an interesting anime, The only suggestion i can give you is not to get frustrated with the initial episodes.

Disappointing
WandererinS23 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I've been a die hard code geass fan and was looking something similar to that anime so i came across guilty crown and decide to give it a go without checking any reviews and spoilers. First of all the opening theme song is really good and the first episode of guilty crown made me nostalgic and reminds me of code geass but as soon as the show progressed,it literally become awful. I feel like it's going at too high pace, lots of plot hole, and the development of most of the character was beyond any logic.

-CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM HERE ON- And creator of the show was really unfair to the protagonist shu, first made him an orphan, then make him forget everything about his sister, then made him fall in love with a girl whom he would eventually lose at the end, made him trust a friend who would betray him later, give him power of kings and take away the power with sacrifice of his one hand, gives him cancer stone over his handsome face for sometime and at the last make him blind.

Really what type of ending was that?It was better to let shu die rather then letting him living with the pain, there could have been a happy ending but the creator said no and the end the anime in awful way with death of inori.

And there is no villain in the show, everyone is good just the circumstances made them bad so eventually all r anti-heroes. i find this thing beyond any logic,i was like omg i can't take this anymore. *gai-a good guy till 70% of the show, bad guy fr 25% and rest 5% he tells why he became bad just to save the world.

*mana-a character with plot holes level over 8000,she was good, she was bad,she was everything. i mean there wasn't any specific way to judge the character even i've a doubt if the creator can judge her character or not.

*arisa-another mindless character,almost same as gai,good-bad mixed.

*daryl-a full psycho character who tries to kill all but from inside has a good kind heart.

*segai-are you ever really obsessed with light over the sky far away or even a power saving bulb?if so then ur fav character must be him.

**That apple guy with void power and that old man who killed shu dads, can't remember their names but they were the worst character i've ever seen.

At first place the anime should not be made,it really made me tear my beautiful hair apart because i have to watched the series of 22 episode (22minutes *22=484minutes aka 8hours 4miutes :( just because i spend 30$ on it. Only good thing was music, with no doubt it was really beautiful.

points for each thing- ANIMATION-7/10. MUSIC-10/10. CHARACTERS-3/10. CHARACTERS DEVELOPMENT-3/10. PLOT-2/10. First half-5/10. second half-3/10. Ending-2/10. Romance and action-4/10. logic and explaination-1/10. That feeling of awesomeness and made you cry in this anime-1/10. AVERAGE REVIEW-4/10.

Highly Underated
ibrahimiftikhar-8906725 November 2020
Pros: The story, while not entirely original, is well executed and well built. The characters have their own depth and there is great character development throughout the series. Contrary to what other reviewers have said, I loved the ending, tho I felt it was a bit rushed. Most of the animes that I have watched have average endings but, guilty crown has one the most well built and satisfying endings that I have ever seen. The animation is pretty good with well executed fight scenes. The soundtrack is amazing and the music that is played during action scenes, really adds to the experience.

Cons: The story is pretty similar to code geass, and in comparison, isn't handled as well Some plot points were not explained properly and it seemed as there were some character decisions only for plot convience.

All in all, as other reviews have already suggested, this show contains many similarities to Code Geass. However, guilty crown is a great anime in it's own regard and i would defineltly recommed it to any anime fan. As such, i wourld reccommend keeping an open mind and to not compare the show to Code Geass. The 7.1 rating doesn't do the show justice as it definetly amongst the better fantasy/sci-fi animes out there and it is highly underated.

Entertaining but the plot was consistent...
baileycookie23 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The plot was very entertaining, it was a action anime for sure but the problem I saw was the plot, I like some of the plot twist but some of them didn't line up with the story and at one point it felt like a different show completely.

I gave it a six because I did like it, it held my attention most of the time. There was a few scenes that were slow or just part of the character's backstory, but it was pretty interesting still.

Spoilers-

As I was say before, a main character dies and they guy goes on a vengeful path, which take the show down a darker road than before.

Also even before that when we learn about what he had forgotten...it makes the show even darker. I wouldn't call the show super darker but there are a few episodes that don't feel as happy and light as the first half of the season does.

Really Worth the Watch
wzgheib1712 May 2016
I just finished watching guilty crown and i must say i am baffled. The idea in the first place is very original and very exciting. The anime does an excellent job of portraying the events and expressing the idea. The animations and soundtrack are terrific and the dubb quality is top of the notch. One will find many discouraging reviews for this show. I say that they are right to a certain degree, the characters could use more development but otherwise it would be a ten over ten. The ending is very satisfying and not too rushed. There are a few plot twists along the way and the story is very exciting. As i said before, the only drawback is the lacking character development in some cases. Animations: 10 Soundtrack: 10 Events: 9 Character Development: 7 Dub and Sub quality(English): 10 Overall score: 9/10

Good looking anime with a confusing story
taco-burningfire23 August 2022
The anime looks beautiful and has some good fight scenes. However, trying to understand the plot (especially in the second halve) is near impossible.

Plot twist after plot twist. Everyone good is apparently evil and then good again.

Except for the guy that killed his sister's husband out of pure jealousy and then tries to destroy the world because of the same reason. And who or what is the Daath guy??

Alright
pkk-7044317 April 2020
This was the first proper anime I have ever watched. The plot was quite interesting. I found it a bit fast paced and confusing, but that's just a personal thing. It would have been nice to have learnt about some of the characters more.

Great Show -- Not Great Ending
crn09121 February 2014
So, this show is about pretty fun (not overly cool) fight scenes, a little bit about helping other people, and a lot about the love between the two main characters.

I was actually moved by the love Shu and Inori had--and I don't think I've ever been moved by a show, movie, or anime's love bond, but theirs was just something special.

The show is short; yet, it is easily just one of my favorites and I'll always keep it in my collection for another go-around in the future. I will say, while the last 11 episodes are packed with more action, the first 11 episodes are better, and I strangely think the last 11 could have been summed up quicker--that's not to say they are slow, for they move faster than the first 11, it's just... well, you will see.

---

That being said, I really didn't like the ending at all, and to me, it's the ending that really makes me want to re-watch an anime. Still, I'd never give a show a 9 if the ending was bad, for it'd be a 7 or lower, but I really did enjoy it. Not to mention it's just beautiful animations.

---

IN SHORT: if you haven't watched it, do it. Set aside a week and just enjoy a few episodes at a time, and try to live in the relationship between the two main characters. Also, be sure to listen to the intro song for the first 11 episodes--I must have listened to it dozens of times.

Plot: 7/10

Music: 8/10

Characters: 9/10

Animation: 10/10

Overall Impression (I don't do averages for impressions): 9/10

I've never seen such a mess ever before
falcoaarts-0130918 January 2021
Where do I even start with this one? Let's start with the good things about this show. The animation is gorgeous. There are really some epic art bombs in this show that make you forget how bad the story is. The music is absolutely beautiful, and I have it about the sang music, not the standard epic fight music that was decent. The show starts with this beautiful song that makes you think your gonna watch something epic. And after the first episode that thought was gone. But I continued watching. After a few episodes, I came to notice that I didn't like a character in this show. Especially the main love interest for our main character. I absolutely hated her in the first half of the show. The second part is defiantly better, much slower paced and a story that's not as thrown at your face than the first half. And then the ending happened... The shortest, anti-climactic, stupidest ending ever. If it weren't for the animation and the music this show would have gotten a lot lower from me.

Very Unique Show! I Loved it!
mercfma22 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is possibly one of the most unique animes I've ever seen, every aspect is completely new and fresh. The animation is very nice and don't even get me started on the music the music is 5/5. I wont lie for about the first 6 episodes, i enjoyed it and i was interested because the show was so unique and different from your average anime but it wasn't to die for but after around episode 7 my opinion changed completely this show took off and never went back down. If your looking for something fresh that you haven't seen before and you like lots of action, dark themed, and a touch of romance this is for you. Now there are some holes in the entire series but that is because there HAS to be a second season, there is just far to much content for all the information in one season. That being said the holes are minor enough that it plays no major role in how the story plays out but still most people would want to know.

Overall: 4/5 Why not 5/5? Because theirs no season 2 which is completely necessary in my opinion. Season ones ending was pretty depressing, not saying its bad, i mean emotionally depressing lol. I'm really hoping for a season two theirs a lot of room to play with in this series still. Music: 5/5, animation: 5/5, storyline/theme/uniqueness:10/5!(seriously i loved how different this was to your average, it broke the mold). Its worth the watch give it a try to at least episode 8, don't drop it before you'll regret it.

My 3rd favourite anime
leondyt24 July 2016
Guilty crown is the example of amazing anime deapite a few flaw(at least from my point of view, maybe tp other peoples,it's not a flaw). The music easily grabs the best place of all anime I ever watched. 11/10 Animation? Pretty good,8.8/10 Character design? The design is nice too. For me,8.3/10 Plot? A bit confusing and lots of implied thing(which may lead to confusion),and lot of unexplained things at first, but as it goes on,the plot is getting better and better. 8/10 for the plot. Ending? I wont spoil you,but personally I liked the way it ends(even though it make me shed some tears and a bit annoyed by it). Well, for ending....... 7/10. It has all thing you expect from a Romance-Action anime. The battle scene is pretty satisfying, which I give rating of 8.5/10. I'm not into romance,so I don't know how to rate it properly. But with my limited knowledge about romance,I'll give it 8/10(dont call me retard,as I said,I almost never watched any romance. In fact,I watched guilty crown because the plot, animation, and music seems promising.) The character development is pretty good, but as you would expect from an anime, not all things happen have a realistic impact to the character. Some of them is A LITTLE exaggerated. Last but not least, overall I give this anime 9/10 rating. The great animation and music makes it stand out. The plot is good, but not the best. Overall watching this anime definitely worth your time, and its a great way to kill time too :P.....

Very well done anime even if you do get lost in the storyline!
Irishchatter26 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I honestly thought the characters and the music were pretty great in this. Although I did find that i was lost midway of the series regarding the storyline, it's possibly because there were too many characters added to the anime or just the fact it was just my way of thinking. Who knows? lol

Anyways i do have to say it was sad in the end. Inori was leaving Shu and the fact she wasn't around with him 5 years later with the reunion dinner he had with the friends. I suppose the apocalypse should've been longer in that case if they both wanted to be together for longer. Which of course didn't happen and anyways if the apocalypse was longer, it would still continue to destroy and crystallize humanity. By the way, the crystallization was absouletely breathtaking in the anime. I honestly didn't see it like a threat but rather an appreciation to the anime artist's who have done a phenomenal job on getting the detail of the crystals right!

Even though this anime didn't make me cry or think it was the best, it was quite nice to watch especially if you are into apocalyptic movies or series! I definately recommend you watching this to get a trill of a apocalypse!

The First Part of the Story Transcends Other Anime, but the Second Part is disappointing.
Anonymous_0104 July 2021
The anime is divided into 2 parts. The first part, (Ep. 1-12) and the second. (Ep 13-22) The first part is astonishing; notwithstanding, the second is not really fun.

Basically, this anime has outstanding graphics for an anime that was made in 2011. Also, it had an exceeding music and VCs. However, the storyline was a little confusing.

As I said, the first part of the story is great. A lot of supense, a rebel-ike story like the Hunger Games series, etc. When I was watching the first part of the anime, I was wondering why people loathed this show a lot. This show stayed in my mind when I went to sleep, and this show even inspired me a little.

I was a little confused about the storyline on the second part. There were some of the parts where they explained, but the show didn't really explain why some of the characters acted like this and why their minds have changed. When I was watching the second part of the show, it felt like a hacker was controlling the anime. It was going really good on the first part, but when the "Shu King" part showed up, it was not really good.

A Guilty Pleasure
WeAreLive19 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After the outbreak of the unidentified virus "Lost Christmas" in 2029, Japan has been under the control of a multi-nation organization called GHQ. Ohma Shu is a 17 year old boy who has a psychic power in his right hand. He can use the power "Ability of King" to extract tools or weapons from his friends. He has been avoiding making trouble for others but his life changes when he meets a girl Yuzuriha Inori, a member of a resistance guerrilla group called "Funeral Parlor", whose members pilot mecha weapons to fight against the government.

The story revolves around Shu Ouma, a high school boy who inadvertently obtains an ability called "Power of the King" that enables him to draw out items called "Voids" from other people. He is then thrown into the conflict between a quasi- governmental organization known as the GHQ and a resistance organization called Funeral Parlor which aims to restore Japan's independence from the GHQ. In the process, Shu has to deal with the burden his ability puts on his shoulders and the horrific mystery of his past.

The anime is like Code Geass and Charlotte. In terms of plot it was rather good there could have been some improvements but I still enjoyable. I have no clue why one person has claimed it has copied when they look nothing a like.

The music is also another thing which I also like about this anime. The episodes that I really enjoyed where Episodes 9, 12, 15 and the last episode they were very emotional.

Overall, I really loved this anime and massive to the creators that made it.

Meh
nylenrebecca30 October 2020
You've seen it all before. The characters, the plot, it's all so very basic. The animation and voiceacting is great, but it's the only great thing about it. I watched this while sick, if you wanted something really worth watching, I would watch something else. Like someone else said; it does feel like a cheap copy of Code Geass

it's a good anime like one of those few in those times
crvirach29 October 2021
We are in view of a very good anime which makes very good puns and takes them as it form of lore (the way the world works) has very few script holes, however it is a work that deserves to be seen from a point of view sight of action and a certain degree of innocence. I'd give it a 7.8 but that's how the punctuation works on this web page.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm kinda sad I never knew about this anime until a week ago.

I loved almost everything about it.

The ending for me was meh tho. I'd loved to see em both go away together instead of 1 of them surviving without his other half.

Maybe its just me but I get emotional when these things happen!

Clearly thrown together
xdeg16 April 2019
I don't know where to begin with this one. I guess I can start with the premise, which isn't bad at all. Coupled with the broken story, plot holes, and terrible characters, it just doesn't work. What I like to do is read the room first before I post anything and what I expected is pretty much what I've gotten.

Not exactly sure how the show gets ratings of 7's of 8's when the same people are complaining about the muddy story you get lost in. Trying not to spoil anything, ultimately there are too many branches that are not being explored and situations I assume we are meant to understand that go right over my head.

And my goodness, the characters. I'm not sure I've seen a show with a cast of characters I cannot stand. Overly sensitive (even for an anime) unwarranted mood swings and space-outs boarding on psychosis. The main character is the worst of them all. Why he learns nothing episode after episode, why he infects and screws everyone around him, and why he doesn't listen is infuriating. Maybe I'm being hard, but this is a tough watch. I'm not the biggest anime fan, but I have seen quite a bit. This has to be the most disappointing. Not the worst, but in terms of what I believe the potential to be... yep, definitely the most disappointing.

I've watched dozens of anime in my life and that is for sure one of my favs. Story was explained already in other comments. But there's one thing I have to say: the music is out of this world. One of the most epic soundtracks you can find in anime!

I have seen many terrible shows, but this one is among the top.
danielcavaiani24 December 2021
The story is not only confusing, but terrible and uninteresting. I don't enjoy or feel entertained while watching the show. It is filled with many negative aspects that make me feel bad when watching. If you want to see a anime that keeps you entertained and happy, don't watch this.
