Elegant simplicity
karthik-mdk6 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The film tells a simple story, but does so with a very refreshing perspective. It pictures a tragic event of a mother with a heart condition and slim chances of getting a donor, through the innocent perspective of a 3 year old child, whose views of love, hope, faith, and belief are entirely unadulterated. The child believes that he could be Superman, Spiderman, or Batman- if he chose to- and gives his mother a bunch of painted heart shaped cut-outs, with the belief that one of these hearts could be what she needs to get better. The innocence of the child's beliefs- at what is clearly a difficult time for the family- is contrasted very subtly with the burden carried by the father, who is shown to love and care for his child as he takes him to the hospital for a visit.

Overall, the film does a brilliant job of showcasing the love between father, mother, and child by contrasting hues of carefree childhood innocence with grownup responsibility.

Can't believe you can pack so much emotion in such a short time.

Warning: Spoilers
I wish these kind of features would have more theatrical release in the US, so it could reach wider audiences. I had the pleasure of watching this film as part of the Romanian Film Festival in NYC. I was so surprised that I found myself caring so much about the characters in such little time. I don't think there was a dry eye in the audience when it ended. It was a beautiful film, well casted, directed and written. You could feel the deep bond between the two leads. The kid plays an amazing role as the innocent child who believes everything is possible, and his dad just lets him be. This short movie leaves you with the feeling that you also wish the bag with the secret had the solution to their troubles. One thing I didn't get was the relation between the tittle and the story. Yes, the boy plays and wants to be his favorite superhero but that is it. He tries to save it all but as himself, not under the pretense of an action figure.

Amazin kid, amazing acting, the best 10 minutes spent in my life.

I'm Romanian so i can understand all that the actors say in the "movie", and it's something amazing that they did it in 10 minutes. Try to watch it on YouTube and see the amazing kid acting better than many others.

It's not a drama story, it's more like a family story, where the father gives everything and the mother it isn't able to do her job, sadly..i loved it not because the actors are from my own country but just for the short time they could give you such a huge message. If someone could understand the true pain of the father, he would be able to get the true meaning of the "movie".

touching

story of a boy . or only profound faith in pure form. delicate performance. touching air. and subtle games of mysteries. more than a short film, like many others, it is a mirror. not for a case but for Romanian reality. because, behind image it is a large scene. so, it is a parable. or only a slice. the judge is every viewer. because, after its end, you discovers than it is not exactly piece of a biography. it is a part from yourself. about innocence, sufferance, faith, love and key as paper heart. a film like memento mori but, in same time, in a special form, a religious movie. because the bag of boy is solution of problem, transformation of time, annihilation of sickness. so, easy way to good state of things. for a kind of soul spring. must see it!really, must see it !

Emotional bait with little authenticity
Horst_In_Translation5 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Do not be fooled by the title "Superman, Spiderman or Batman" here. This 5-year-old film comes from Romania and also only has Romanien language from start to finish, so make sure you get subtitles, if you want to understand what is going on. Should not be a surprise that this little movie with its very American title and the bleak European approach in terms of filmmaking scored awards recognition all over the planet. I guess this was the filmmakers' intention and they succeeded. But in my opinion, in terms of quality, they did not succeed. The film entirely relies on the revelation at the end and it's pure tear bait to be honest. Nothing before this final scene really justifies a positive response and an unlikely plot twist like in here cannot save this film. This film needed a lot more substance. That way, it could also have delivered in terms of quality emotional filmmaking. But the way it turns out here, it somehow feels false. I cannot recommend it. Do not be fooled by the IMDb rating. These 11 minutes are not a good watch. Thumbs down.
