More Disappointing, Less Awesome.
infinityuniverseus9 May 2022
When you don't know what the show looks. It's the Secret Mountain Fort Awesome. Seriously? It's nothing like awesome than we know. But most of the things are nothing but a disgusting, disturbing, lazy, boring to watch, and lastly, gross-out jokes.

In this case, this show looks nothing like an family-friendly. Instead, it look more like an rejected Adult Swim show.

However, most characters are called Disgustoids (sounds familiar). Which are the ugliest, but worst, creatures that we ever seen. The animation is not terrible, but the ugly and uncanny. The designs are ugly. The music are mediocre-to-awful (specially the theme song). And the show title make absolutely no sense. Why does anything called "Awesome". Because they're not.

In the end, SMFA cancelled after 7 months of airs. And the show stated becames awful.

It's bad,but it's not the worst.
kumargopinath25 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The show can be a little funny at times, but most of the time,it's really boring and really disgusting. The characters have no personalities(like most modern cartoons),the animation is sub par,and so is the voice acting. The jokes are really disgusting and just plain unfunny most of the time.And.........that's about it.There's just really nothing else I have to say about this show. It's just bland and disgusting.Just skip it and watch something better like adventure time or regular show or heck, even uncle grandpa.Still, this show's not as bad as the problem solverz(okay fine,NOTHING is as bad as the problem solverz, not even dora).

As far away from awesome as one can possibly get
TheLittleSongbird17 March 2024
'The Secret Mountain of Fort Awesome' (2007-2012)

Opening thoughts: This is not by any means a case of me hating it for the sake of everybody else hating it. Cartoon Network were a huge part of childhood and were responsible for some childhood favourites that are still great now(i.e. 'Dexter's Laboratory', 'Courage the Cowardly Dog'). Weird and absurdist humour is fun when executed well, and there were some talented people involved with the voice acting. Plus the concept was a good one, much better than those for most panned Cartoon Network shows.

It is a shame though that a concept that did have promise and did sound quite inventive was wasted by less than unimaginative execution. 'The Secret Mountain of Fort Awesome' is a long way from awesome and is one of Cartoon Network's all time worst. It is on the same level of dreadful that 'Problem Solverz' and 'Angela Anaconda' are on, and makes other abominations like 'Johnny Test' and 'Uncle Grandpa' look like early days 'Steven Universe' (a great show just to say) or something in comparison.

Good things: Nothing is remotely halfway decent here.

Bad things; Where to begin? First and foremost, the animation is eye bleedingly awful. The colours are very garish and flat, editing is often dizzying and lacking tightness and the backgrounds mostly static in detail and rough. Worst of all are the character designs, some of the most hideous ever in an animated show. At best, the music is very forgettable, some of the scoring was very going-through-the-motions composing, while the theme song is as annoying and as amateurish as that for 'Johnny Test' and 'Uncle Grandpa'. Ranking towards the lower end of the list of Cartoon Network show theme songs in terms of memorability and appeal.

A huge problem with the show is that it just isn't funny. Have no problem with weird absurdest humour, but in 'Secret Mountain of Fort Awesome' it constantly felt lazy and like it was trying too hard. Making every obnoxiously cheesy and witless line of dialogue and every increasingly predictable and juvenile sight gag even more forced and contrived. It also depends whether any weirdness has a reason for being weird, but it came over very randomly more often than not. There is a lot of childish humour and most of it is distasteful. The story lines are also heavy in contrivance, randomness and predictability and incredibly light in emotional resonance, fun or sense to the point all three are practically non-existent. Furthermore there is constantly uneven pacing, with some episodes in serious need of more breathing time and others feeling lazy as a result of the comic timing not being as sharp as it could have been.

None of the characters are remotely interesting or likeable, all of them in fact with no exception being irritating beyond belief. The voice acting is also not very good at all, Peter Browngardt's voice is like nails on a blackboard in how grating it is, and it is hard to believe that talented voice actors like Tom Kenny and Grey Griffin would agree to do this (even more surprising was Clive Revill) and somehow they are made to seemingly forget how to emote or be funny. An unforgivable waste.

Closing thoughts: Summing up, this is more like Fort abomination that should remain secret.

1/10.

I can't look at this much longer. The designs are so gross and they burn my eyes. The repetitive toilet humor is just too much for me, and it's not funny. It comes out as ridiculous and annoying. Don't watch this, it's so terrible.

Stinky Mountain Fort Awful
blackaugust793412 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen quite a number of episodes and I can say with all honesty and courage that this is the worst cartoon on CN in recent memory. I thought Problem Solverz was bad but this crap soufflé takes the cake when it comes to bad cartoons. The characters are all badly designed and are eyesores. One of them is actually a huge butt. Another looks like a green ball with a bad case of acne. Not only is the character "animation" terrible but the jokes are painfully bad and predictable. Each episode is the same: One of the characters has a problem or a situation and the rest of the characters do something gross and stupid. Wash, rinse and repeat.

This show is one of the reasons why I don't watch TV much nowadays. When all one can look forward on TV and Cable is garbage programming like this then why even watch TV at all. Now I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I do find it strange that for a year IMDb wouldn't let anyone review this show much less give it a star rating. Its almost like they were in cahoots with the makers of this slop and made a deal with these hacks not to let reviewers trash this show in its infancy stage so that they can sucker more innocent people to watch this crap. Strange indeed.

At any rate this show is an awful waste of time and if you have all the old school great cartoons from the 80s, 90s and years earlier on DVD and VHS then share those with your kids. CN has nothing to offer your children anymore and this rancid filth is proof of that statement.

I have literally just watched one episode of this abomination and I think its just ugly in terms of designs and character development. Honestly what on earth was this creator thinking when he was making this?

A design of a body with a butt on his head? A pufferfish with arms? I honestly feel sorry for these voice actors that they wasted their time on this.

Even Problem Solverz, Uncle Grandpa, Chowder and Teen Titans Go! has better animation then this and they are my least favourite shows cartoon network.

Don't watch this show. End of rant

This is so HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really hate this this show so much next to Shimmer and Shine, The Nutshack, and Monster Math Squad. Their was no effort put into this show. Heck, their was one episode where they had a toilet as a teleporter to teleport to another dimension to ally with humans. HOW STUPID IS THAT? That is just sick.

The idea is creative, but they got really lazy after that.
jediforce1026 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I have to hand it to Cartoon Network when it comes to creating shows. When they take what seems to be a decent idea and make it bad, they really do a good job in doing so. I'm not going to lie here, I thought the idea of this show was great. A show about monsters and humans living together sounded like an interesting concept, but what we get is yet another show that only tarnishes CN's name once more. In S.M.F.A. it centers around a group of monsters who are teleported into the human world and now must cope together. Now you'd think that maybe, just maybe this idea would be handled at least with a little care. Well unfortunately for us that's not the case at all. For one thing, I can't stand any of these characters. None of the humans and monsters are interesting in the least bit and come off as generic stereotypical characters. We have a nerd, a monster who loves to eat, and for some reason a monster who literally (I wish I was kidding here) a combination of butts all formed into one body. To make things worse, this butt monster, who's name is Fart by the way, always farts when someone touches him. In what mind did the creators think this was going to appeal to anyone at all? Let alone kids? Speaking of the humor, it's nothing but complete potty humor. From start to finish the show is full of jokes involving toilets, farting, or other crude humor. For crying out loud the first episode was literally about a toilet! How desperate are these creators for humor? The plots in this show are mind boggling bad in many ways. We have stuff like a mountain falling in love with another mountain, that port a potty episode, and figuring out who broke a chair. These episodes not only sound bad, but ARE bad in general. The artwork is just dreadful. While it's not as bad as The Problem Solverz, the set designs look mediocre at best, the colors are a little overblown, and the characters have terrible designs to them. It's not just the humans that look horrible, but the monsters as well. I know these are monsters, but they don't look like monsters, but instead parodies of monsters or cheap suits from the dollar store. The animation could be better. The characters seem to have little movement to them and there's some lip syncs that are off completely. S.M.F.A. I'm sure could've been a good show about monsters and humans, but thanks to unfunny jokes, terrible characters that have no personalities, and dreadful plots, it fails on every level. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch Ahh! Real Monsters! to flush this show out of my head and you should to.

Cartoon Network should be called Craptoon Network because of this.
hsp-548681 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously?? What is this?? I never seen this show, but by looking at it, it looks awful!! The visuals look ugly, the monsters are disgusting looking (I know most monsters can be disgusting, but these monsters take the cake). Like one of them looks like a green ball with acne and huge swollen lips. Another one is a purple monster in his undies. And last but not least, there's a monster named Fart. Gross. I forgot that this was made by Peter Browngardt, the creator of Uncle Grandpa. So he went to make two cartoons on the same network with abysmal ratings. This show doesn't deserve to be called Secret Mountain Fort Awesome, It deserves to be called Stinky Mountain Fort Awful!!

You've gotta admit, this show has KILLER animation
TheEightBitGrandpaShow14 April 2016
This show is pretty good! It's entertaining to me, and I don't care what people say! It's a good show! It's different! I can tell the makers spent a lot of time on the animation, I mean, think about it! It IS gross, but there's SO much detail! The other cartoons on Cartoon Network don't put NEARLY as much effort as these guys did with the animation. I also like all of the characters. They are all creatively designed. They're gross, but that doesn't bother me. I like all of the episodes. I watched them over and over on iTunes. It's a shame this show came to an end. I want more! Uncle Grandpa is similar, but I still like Secret Mountain Fort Awesome 1,000 times better! This really should be an Adult Swim cartoon. They made the wrong decision putting it on Cartoon Network. If it was on Adult Swim, it would probably still be airing.

Gross and Disgusting
markmaldonis7 June 2020
While browsing the reviews for this show you'll see many upset children who watched this and called it gross, they say it's the worst thing they have ever watched and they wish they never saw it. Well, he's a real review of the show. This show is gross and disgusting. From every puss filled pore and every toot that comes out of "The Fart" you'll come to find that this show embraces those things. The creators of the show knew what they were setting out to make and they did it. So honestly props to them. I love the colors and the bold lines used for this shows art style with an incredible voice cast this show had a lot going for it it's too bad that it didn't last longer due to kids not liking things being gross.

What kind of show is this!!??!!
adamfrandsen-207-4706268 January 2015
Problem Solverz was one of the bad cartoons featured on Cartoon Network, and while Horace, Roba(he's actually half-human and half- cyborg) and all the other humans(Even that walking pile of crap with an elongated nose named Alfe, who's said to be part human, part dog, and part anteater, though who on earth cares what he looks like more of,which he doesn't look like any of these three) are repulsive, not even their physical flaws and this show are worst than the characters in this pile of ginormous crap. I was bored surfing the internet so I came across Problem Solverz(A show I am very familiar with), so I watched a couple episodes. As strange as it sounds, I found it enjoyable. That said, I don't think it's a great show, but I'd rather watch Problem Solverz than this festering pile of garbage. So anyway, I wanted to check out the reviews for Problem Solverz(because I'm into reviews and criticism for bad shows and movies), and I came across Secret Mountain Fort Awesome. Somehow, I came across this abominable show, and one night, when I was going to bed, I suddenly realized something, "Gee,this show is familiar!" Yes, the only character I remembered from this show is a butt- headed(YES!! Literally butt-headed!!), butt-chinned, butt-abbed and butt-footed(YES!!! EVEN BUTT-FOOTED!!!!!) character named The Fart(apparently an idea created by an immature child)who happens to be one of the most repulsive characters I've ever seen. Not to mention he has feminine eyelashes!! PLEASE!!! Spongebob having female eyelashes is NORMAL. In fact, IT LOOKS GOOD ON HIM!!!! Not so this disgusting character. Then you have a purple alien named Festro who's in his underwear(Come on guys, either make an alien in clothes or don't bother giving him clothes) but I don't want to see him in his underwear. I have OCD and I HATE the thought of imagining what's inside his underwear. PS, I have sexual obsessions(but I don't deliberately think them) that come with OCD, and I find this purple alien in his underwear to be absolutely disgusting. Also, you have an alien with a very big nose who looks like Scrat from Ice Age!!! (Minus the fangs, tail, and brown and tan colors) His name is Slog. He looks like he's high on drugs and a homeless drug addict(yes, I went on the website, here's the link: http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/shows/secret-mountain-fort- awesome/characters/index.html (and it tells you the biography of each of the characters) Slog also scratches on the side of his hip with that stupid look on his face when you go on the website. Prepare for a nasty eyesore. Like the previous two characters that I have mentioned, Slog is disgusting, and I don't need any more proof as to whether this character is disgusting or not. Another very repulsive character is Gweelok, a green wasp-eyed, pimple faced furball with hairy human arms who thinks he's smarter than all his friends(Honestly, I couldn't care less WHO ON EARTH IS SMARTER THAN WHO in this abominable crap fest of a show.) Finally, we have a blue abomination named Dingle who looks like a crazy, blue skinned demon who just got out of the Buddhist's version of hell(If you know about the Buddhist's version of Hell, you'll know what I mean) that he's been in for such a long time. Like all the other characters, this abomination is repulsive, and disgusting. If you take a look at the link I posted, the biography and the characters themselves will tell you all. I never watched the show, I don't know what goes on, and I do not care, so I don't plan on watching this crap any time soon(if ever). You're better off watching Out of Jimmy's Head(which is the least bad out of the three shows mentioned in my review) and Problem Solverz than this super-repulsive bunch of aliens that the crack- induced producers decided to put on television. Unfortunately, the lowest rating I could give is a 1. There should be a 0, for supremely awful. Whatever you do(unless if you have OCD and you have a compulsion to watch this show and/or you're forced at gunpoint), DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stupid Messed-Up Fort Eyesore
ultramatt2000-13 November 2012
Oh gee-whiz! Schinkes! Klasky-Csupo John Kricfalusi Joe Murray Donovan Cook Genndy Tartovsky Craig McCracken John R. Dilworth Van Partible Danny Antonucci Greg Miller Butch Hartman Rob Renzetti Bob Boyle Mr Warburton Maxwell Atoms Jan Van Rijselberge! My eyes!!!! My brain!!!! By popular demand, welcome to "Matthew Rants". What happened when Cartoon Network showed cartoons that were funny, creative, imaginative, fun and exciting. When they were pleasant to look at and listen to. The stories were easy to follow. These days they are eyesores and ear-graters. I just don't understand why cartoons these days have messed up story lines, ugly characters, bad animation, irritating voices and grotesque designs. Have you seen THE HUNGER GAMES, the rich folks out there look beautiful, they milk up the beauty and mess around with the style until it is not beautiful, it's ugly. Look at Lady Gaga she looks trashy. How can something awful be praised. It's like the stupid gets rewarded and the smart gets punished. Parents, keep this away from the kids. Kids, save your brain cells, watch Boomerang or CARTOON PLANET. Here's a recommendation T.U.F.F. PUPPY. (I don't know why IMDb bashes T.U.F.F. PUPPY, but read my review, because it's clever and awesome.) Now if you can excuse me, I better hide. I think I see an angry mob of fan-boys coming.

Truly a benchmark in the history of animated television. I have fond memories of staying up all night on school days to watch this show. The characters are all complex with not a single one of their lines' lacking. I recently came back to revisit this phenomenon of a show and it has become even better than I'd seen it before. This is a MUST WATCH for anyone who cares about cinema as a whole.

The Monsters of Cartoon Network
kaijunut14 June 2017
now , i've seen a lot of reviews for this show , both on here and on other sites , and i have to say , i'm a little disappointed , people seem to be too quick to judge it , i for 1 think it's a pretty good show , mostly because it's about monsters , people keep saying "oh those guys are gross" or "oh god , those guys look horrible" , but that's the point , they're called DISGUSTOIDS , not GOOD-LOOKOIDS , the episode that got me hooked was "road trippin" , people who treat the show this way are basically acting like the humans from the show's universe , exactly what the show was trying to prevent , you can't just attack things for no valid reason , maybe instead of just turning away , you can give at least 1 full episode a good watch , and don't just turn it off half way in , or you'll just be missing the point , so , i'd like all of you to think all this over , and maybe give yourselves good hard looks in the mirror

The Show Cloudy the TV Series Should be.
tommypezmaster14 May 2018
Okay, so it may not be as great as The Problem Solverz, but it's still better than that Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs show. To me, it is rather odd that this and Problem Solverz's second season never aired on the channel but Sidekick and Scaredy Squirrel's second season did but it's still the best thing Cartoon Network aired. Sand Sidekick and Scaredy Squirrel just suck to me. I found Secret Mountain to be a very timeless and hilarious classic. I grew up with this and Problem Solverz! as a kid watching Cartoon Network, and I loved it to death. One of my all time favorites next to Hamtaro, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Zach Bell, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Mar, Blue Dragon, Cyborg009, Teen Titans (2003), Teen Titans Go, Camp Lazlo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Sheep in The Big City, as well as The Looney Tunes Show, Duck Dodgers, Pink Panther and Pals, Grojband, Bunnicula and the two shows that deserve to be on qubo instead of Sidekick and Scaredy Squirrel: Problem Solverz and Secret Mountain Fort Awesome. It had heartfelt moments, timeless humor, and great animation. Yes, it feels like Mad, but at least it feels more like the first season of Mad. Yes, even Teen Titans Go and Bunnicula seem to feel like Mad, and I loved those shows as well. Overall, I love this show.
