According to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users as of this writing, two closed shows are expected to receive nominations for Best Musical at this year’s Tony Awards. They are “Days of Wine and Roses,” which is in fifth place with 19/2 odds, and “Here Lies Love,” which is in second with 5/1 odds. Traditionally, however, closed shows tend to struggle getting Best Musical noms.
“Here Lies Love” opened way back in the summer of last year and was well received by critics. Yet it sadly never caught on commercially and ended up closing last November. Meanwhile, “Days of Wine and Roses” had already intended to be a limited run with its final performance planned for April 28 after opening in January to its own critical acclaim. Yet due to lackluster grosses, the run became even more limited, ending early on March 31.

Ann Crumb, the stage’s Aspects of Love star who became the first American actress chosen by Andrew Lloyd Webber to originate a starring role, died yesterday of ovarian cancer at her parents’ home in Pennsylvania. She was 69.
Her death, which followed a nearly five-year battle with the disease, was announced by her press spokesman Kevin McAnarney.
The musical theater actress and singer created numerous leading roles on Broadway and London’s West End, including roles in The Goodbye Girl, Nine, Les Miserables, Chess, and, in a 1992 Broadway performance that earned her a Best Actress Tony Award nomination, Anna Karenina.
Lloyd Webber had personally chosen Crumb, born in Charleston, West Virginia, to originate the lead role of Rose Vibert when his musical Aspects of Love opened in London in 1989 and on Broadway a year later. She would also star opposite John Cullum in the National tour of Man Of La Mancha...

Ice Age: Continental Drift and Rags' 26-year old writer Jason Fuchs will write the teen adventure The Magic Catalogue for Disney. The film is about a group of older kids who come across a bunch of new high tech weaponry. The idea comes from story artist and illustrator Chris Appelhans (The Princess and the Frog, Coraline). Robert Zemeckis and his ImageMovers production company (Mars Needs Moms, Disney's A Christmas Carol, Real Steel) will produce the film but it's doubtful that the film will be made in Zemeckis' signature motion-capture animation.

You've seen her before - the young star in Akeelah and the Bee is turning 19 this August. Keke Palmer is back for her new role as "Peaches" in an icy adventure this summer: Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.

'I thought it'd be a cool way to do classic fairy tales that are hip-hop,' Cannon tells MTV News.

Nick Cannon recently produced "Rags," the Nickelodeon adaptation of "Cinderella," which flipped the script on the traditional tale by featuring a guy in the role of Cinderella and a hipper soundtrack produced by the likes of Rodney Jerkins.
Cannon would like to explore the modernization of fairy tales a bit more on the network. In fact, it's been a dream of his for over a decade now to put his spin on these stories and add some modern swagger. "It was one of those things, I actually created and wrote this story for myself a long time ago," he told MTV News about "Rags." We have two new screening updates for you this Friday afternoon. According to Deadline, actor-turned-writer Jason Fuchs has been hired to write The Clock Without a Face for Paramount and Montecito Picture Company.
Fuchs will adapt the script from the puzzle oriented children’s book, which will center “on the pursuit of the jeweled numerals stolen off a legendary ancient clock which legened has it gives the possessor the ability to control time.” He has also co-scripted the upcoming Ice Age: Contintential Drift, as well as the revamped Cinderella picture Ragz for Nickelodeon. Fuchs has a definite tie to the children/teen writing scene, considering he was also just hired by Gold Circle to adapt Daniel Waters’ teen thriller Break My Heart 1000 Times. These are some pretty big projects for somebody who’s only 25 years-old.
In other writing news, rookie screenwriters Benji Cosgrove and Cory Palmer have been tapped...

Jason Fuchs, a former kid actor (Flipper and voice talent in video games "Bully" and "Red Dead Revolver") turned screenwriter (Ice Age: Continental Drift) will write the kids movie The Clock Without a Face for Paramount. Based on the children's story, it's about tracking down the thief who stole the jeweled numbers from an ancient clock that controls all time (sounds kinda like Spy Kids 4!).
Fuchs is pretty interesting. At just 24 years old, he's on fire as a screenwriter. Besides Ice Age 4,he's written the Cinderella update Ragz for Nick Cannon and Nickelodeon and is writing the supernatural teen movie Break My Heart 1000 Times based on the book about a teen girl living in a post-apocolyptic world inhabited by ghosts who is haunted by her dead father and a teen boy she'd never met.

Keke Palmer has had one busy summer. The multitalented teen star not only appeared in the season 11 premiere of TeenNick's "Degrassi" and debuted two new songs, "Walls Come Down" and "The Greatest," but she also wrapped filming on a one-hour True Jackson, VP movie "Mystery in Peru." But Nickelodeon's teen queen has even bigger things to worry about now--like celebrating her eighteenth birthday.
