Good start

I haven't seen Riverdale since Season 5 or around Season 4 just because I felt that the quality has gone downhill. Season 7 is to me a good start for Riverdale once again. With the characters transported to the fifties after the events of last season's finale, the characters must live their new lives and accept the new reality they are in including Jughead who, of all, was the only one who remembers everything until the end of this episode.

To me, Season 1 of Riverdale will always be the best, it has the suspense and the story was well written. Season 7 offers quite the same as what Season 1 offered but in a different and fresh way. Riverdale is one of those tv series with high potential but its stories and side quests ultimately affected the quality of the series. Season 7 episode 1 is good and for the first time in a long time, I want to see more, I am intrigued again. It made me LOVE Riverdale again. Hoping that they won't screw this last season and to be honest, I hope they'll get stuck in the fifties.

Riverdale 1955

Warning: Spoilers
At last! I have waited eight months for the season premiere and for the most part it was as wonderful as I thought it would be. I give this a ten rating because of the way that the writers skillfully intertwined fact and fiction. They have Betty and her friends getting in trouble with Principal Featherhead for talking about the murder of Emmett Till in Mississippi and there is a touching moment where the girls recite a poem about racism by Langston Hughes over the school intercom. Cheryl Blossom is her usual bratty self at first trying to undermine the new girl in school, Hollywood star Veronica Lodge, but she redeems herself in the end. Pity poor Jughead, he is the only one who knows they are all trapped in time because "Bailey's comet" hit Riverdale last season. There is an unintentionally hilarious scene where he gathers the gang together and tries to persuade them of this telling them about the internet and smartphones and they just think hes nuts.

Where has this writing been for the last 2 seasons?
austindees30 March 2023
I normally don't write reviews and I definitely don't write reviews for episodes, but this is the exception for me. I've been watching Riverdale since the start. I highly enjoyed the first few seasons no matter how cheesy they were but the last season and a half really took a turn. I was still watching it and finding some enjoyment out of them but it wasn't the same. The writing really took a turn after the show returned from shutdown. This doesn't even feel like the same show anymore and that's a good thing. This first episode really feels like a reset and it works. Let's just hope the rest of this final season continues down this path and the writers don't return to settling for mediocrity.

I really haven't liked this show since Luke Perry died. It's getting more and more stupid. I don't know if this is the last season or not, but I hope so. I hope that the actors will move on to better endeavors after this. I'm actually kind of disappointed in Molly Ringwald's acting in this episode, I know that she had a small part but her acting wasn't very good. I was confused at the end with what Tabitha (?) was explaining to Jughead. What was the point of her saying she has to untangle all the timelines, if he nor anyone else will have any memories of the life they had??? Anyways, the show made absolutely no sense.

Back To The Start

Warning: Spoilers
Could the final season give the series its first Emmy nomination/win for outstanding period costumes and/or outstanding character makeup? I think so. It might be too much of a stretch though.

The season 7 premiere is grandiose, vibrant, and immediately immerses the viewer to a simpler yet shameful time in American history. It handled the subject matter with tremendous care and sensitivity. The episode has the perfect blend of comedy and drama, and isn't afraid to become vulnerable and to lean into a serious issue that sparked the long civil rights movement. The lynching of Emmett Till had a major impact on U. S. history, and inspired civil rights activists to speak up against inequality. Anyway, this premiere frankly rejuvenates the series and injects it with new life. Adding to that, I loved the 1950s aesthetic and the exuberant color schemes. I hope the rest of the season manages to maintain the quality, tone, and grandiose nature of the premiere.

Final verdict: 9.7/10.

People are paid to write those positive reviews...

This episode was just as awful as the rest, since season 2. Only now, these idiotic writers, who know jack about historical facts. Let alone opened a History book, or simply underlined the parts, they could twist around. To Indulge in the most obvious manifestation of cancel culture, throughout this boring premiere. Where everything is predictable and disingenuous, and the satire aspect is intelligence insulting. Showed Riverdale had nothing « new » to tell. And I actually thought it would, when the story was back to a time, from which most of the show's aesthetic, took its inspiration. So what went wrong? Everything I say. Even the fashion was not accurate. And the different timelines excuse, is a catch-all, to all of the show's inconsistencies, at that point. I genuinely feel sorry for this generation who has to grow up, amongst all those lies and manipulations. And think this is a good TV series.

NEAT BLAST FROM THE PRESENT TO THE PAST
tcchelsey15 June 2023
This premier episode of SEASON 7 is original, credit some very good writing and research.

Although the gang is transported back to 1955 Riverdale, it has the feel of the early, early episodes and the original Archie comics, in a way. I have been watching this show since the very beginning, and you must admit that the last few seasons, in particular, have been dreary and dark, sort of in the atmospheric tradition of BATMAN. Really spiteful characters and sinister situations. This episode was a complete turn-around, and came as a unique, if not fun surprise. This was fascinating to watch. The acting is ALWAYS excellent (make no mistake), and check out the 50s wardrobe, particularly Veronica as a would-be starlet from glitzy Hollywood (coming to the small town USA Riverdale). They must have had a blast filming her scenes. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) as usual is back to writing and narrating and attempting to make sense of this insane trip back into time, more over, hoping no one will think he's bananas. The tragic Emmett Till murder case and the fatal crash of actor James Dean is also cleverly woven into the script. Bottom line, everybody looks out of place, and yet they are in place and doing their thing 50s style. That is clever. The catch here is that only Jughead knows the real story --and how the heck are they all going to return to 2023? Stay tuned. I give this a firm 10 for originality, a side step from all the ominous situations in the past (cleaning the slate) which tended to go on for too long. We will have to see in what direction it goes, though I have faith in the writers as there are distinct possibilities here. SEASON 7 EPISODE 1.

Riverdale S07 E01

Warning: Spoilers
A strong beginnin, and I hope the end of the season will not be happy or sad, but logical. I was happy when Bob and the gang showed up because I missed them. And screamed when Tabitha came from the future. There r many questions, such as how there is no JJ and he became Julian and how will they return to the future after Jug's memory has disappeared. I like it when they talk about racism against black people. Cheryl and Veronica's character is beautiful, as always. And TBH I was shocked when I saw Betty with Kevin and the relationships r different as it appeared in the trailer, for sure this is because of the Comet.
