For those who remember, the game show Press Your Luck relied a lot on good timing. In a very roulette-like manner, contestants would watch squares on a board randomly be highlighted until they prompt it to stop in order to get the prize it halted on. An amazing episode in 1984 would have a contestant endlessly receiving good luck as he won big money every time he called, “Stop!” His fortune would be called into question as he would get accused of cheating on the show. Deadline has now shared the first look at Press Your Luck — a movie that will depict the events of that episode and all the controversy surrounding it, starring Paul Walter Hauser as the fateful contestant.
The synopsis, according to Deadline, reads,
“Set in 1984, the film follows Ohio resident Michael Larson, who steps on to the set of game show Press Your Luck harboring a secret:...

Malkovich has brought his uniquely off-kilter acting style to bear in a prolific career spanning costume drama (like 1988’s “Dangerous Liasons”), studio thrillers (1993’s “In the Line of Fire”), cutting edge indies (1999’s “Being John Malkovich”), wackadoo sci-fi comedies (2005’s “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”) and animated family films (2014’s “Penguins of Madagascar”). “It’s so important that women like this are not forgotten from history,” declares Maisie Williams about her role as unsung hero Catherine Dior in the Apple TV+ prestige drama “The New Look.” Catherine was best known as a French Resistance fighter during World War II and who is often attributed as her brother Christian’s muse and inspiration for his iconic Miss Dior perfume that he launched in 1947.
For our recent webchat she adds, “if we’re going look at Catherine being one of the original muses of the Dior fashion house, you really have to understand how it is that she inspired Christian. And in order to do that, you have to really understand her life,” she explains. “I feel really grateful that more people are going to learn about her because she’s not someone that we think about when we think of the history of fashion.

Florence + The Machine have announced a special performance of their debut album, Lungs, in celebration of its 15th anniversary. Entitled “Symphony of Lungs,” the concert is set to go down on September 11th at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms classical music festival. It will be aired live on BBC Radio 3.
The concert will see Florence Welch perform the album in full with backing from Jules Buckley and his Orchestra. In addition to its live airing, the performance will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 1, BBC Two, and BBC iPlayer.
“This album was such a patchwork of a period of time of my messy teenage years and early twenties,” Welch said of the upcoming anniversary show in a press release. “I had no idea what I was doing or where it would go, and a lot of the songs are simply an exhalation of joy.

Apple TV+ is sure to perform well at this year’s Emmys with a number of shows strongly positioned including “Lessons in Chemistry,” “Sugar,” “Manhunt,” “The New Look,” and “Masters of the Air.” Well, add in another limited series to that mix — the historical drama “Franklin,” starring Oscar-winner Michael Douglas as the titular Benjamin Franklin.
The show chronicles Franklin’s eight years in France, wherein he attempted to convince King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to support the colonies in the American Revolutionary War. The series, as you’d expect, features fabulous costumes, sets, and hair and makeup. It is anchored by a powerhouse performance from Douglas, whose take on Franklin is a more modern one. The show is all the more entertaining for it, as noted by critics.

Before you make your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Drama Supporting Actor, take a tour of our photo gallery showcasing the men most likely to land in the lineup. Last year’s race was completely dominated by actors from “Succession” and “The White Lotus,” neither of which can produce nominees this time since the former ended last May and the latter won’t return until 2025.
Naturally, this category’s sole presently eligible former winner – Billy Crudup – has emerged as the frontrunner. Among his likeliest competitors are two of his own cast mates: 2020 nominee Mark Duplass and series newcomer Jon Hamm, who won the 2015 Best Drama Actor Emmy for “Mad Men” and is widely expected to take this year’s limited series lead prize for “Fargo.”
Other outside winners in the mix include James Cromwell (“Sugar”; formerly of “American Horror Story”), Nathan Lane (“The Gilded Age”; “Only Murders in the Building”), and...

Between shows like “Halston,” “The New Look,” “The Collection,” and Ridley Scott’s movie “House Of Gucci,” stories about the fashion empire seem to be on the neverending rise. And in the era of Peak TV—which hasn’t really subsided despite reports to the contrary—it seems like almost anyone is worthy of their own mini-series. To that end, one of the most famous icons of modern fashion, eccentric German designer Karl Lagerfeld, is getting the biopic treatment, or rather, origin story in the new Hulu mini-series, “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld.”

Based on the combined predictions of over 2,000 Gold Derby users, Lily Gladstone (“Under the Bridge”) and Walton Goggins (“Fallout”) are not generally expected to reap 2024 Emmy bids at this time. However, their chances of soon reaching predicted nominee status greatly improved over the past week thanks to their new category placements. The limited series actress’ odds jumped from 100/1 to 66/1 after she migrated from lead to supporting, while the dramatic actor went from 62/1 to 37/1 by making the opposite move.
Gladstone’s “Under the Bridge” cast mate, Riley Keough, joined her in switching from lead to supporting but still retains her original 100/1 odds. The other two performers who rose above their previous 100/1 odds this week are lead actress Julianne Moore (“Mary & George”) and featured actor Mark Ruffalo (“All the Light We Cannot See”), both of whom hail from limited series.
At this point, the non-continuing series races are proving to be the most dynamic ones overall.

“Outwardly, he gives the impression that he doesn’t care very much,” Gary Oldman recently said about portraying a disgraced MI5 agent on the acclaimed AppleTV+ spy drama “Slow Horses,” explaining that underneath his disheveled exterior, there’s so much more to the man than what meets the eye. “He’s unkempt, and he uses it to play a game. It’s a defense mechanism, and I would say he cares a lot more than most.”
Oldman is mesmerizing in “Slow Horses” as the aloof and often contemptuous Jackson Lamb. Apple TV’s “The New Look” tells the story of Christian Dior (Emmy champ Ben Mendelsohn) as he struggles to create a new fashion line in Paris soon after the end of World War II. He comes into conflict with the legendary designer Coco Chanel (Oscar winner Juliette Binoche). This sumptuous costume drama spares no expense and showcases these two award-winning actors.
Critics have embraced the show, too, with Angie Han (The Hollywood Reporter) calling it “handsome and heartbreaking.” Among the others giving it rave reviews:
Joyce Slaton (Common Sense Media) observed: “‘The New Look’ is a powerful and complex look at what terror and oppression does to people both ordinary and extraordinary alike; not an easy watch, but a great one.”

[This story contains spoilers from the first season of The New Look.]
The first season of Apple TV+’s The New Look ends with Christian Dior (Ben Mendelsohn) debuting his revolutionary 1947 collection that would be dubbed “the new look” by Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Carmel Snow (Glenn Close). The show then quickly flashes forward through some of the Dior brand’s iconic looks over the decades, which seems to suggest that the series is done with Dior’s story.
But creator Todd A. Kessler tells The Hollywood Reporter that he has a long runway planned for the series, which has yet to be officially renewed for a second season. A potential season two would continue to focus on Dior and Coco Chanel (Juliette Binoche) before subsequent seasons would stay with the Dior brand as it was inherited by Yves Saint Laurent.

It took Gary Oldman some time to win his first Oscar, which he claimed for “Darkest Hour” in 2018, and it is taking him even longer to win his first Emmy. The legendary British actor was first nominated 23 years ago for his guest role on “Friends.”He should be reaping a second Emmy bid for his leading role in the Apple TV+ drama “Slow Horses.” The acclaimed series, based on Mick Herron‘s book, follows a group of British intelligence agents who are confined to a dumping ground of a department due to their past mistakes.
Oldman stars at the head of the department, Jackson Lamb who is rude, abrasive, full of bad habits, and, a lot of the time, drunk. As the character, Oldman is a joy to watch as the crass and broken spy. But while he revels in the comedy of said crassness, Oldman sows in an undercurrent of intelligence and belied sharpness,...

Wednesday’s Season 1 finale of The New Look debuted Christian Dior’s iconic silhouette. But according to Maisie Williams, who plays Dior’s sister Catherine in the Apple TV+ drama, the best finale fashion moment isn’t Dior’s dramatic cinched-waists, nor his show-stopping full skirts.
For Williams, the best New Look fashion comes to down to the details — the kind of finishes you may not have even noticed on a TV screen.

The 10th episode of The New Look brings the show to an end. Considering how I expected the show to be replete with elements of fashion, I have been disappointed with every passing episode. The show has been stuffed with the hustle of Dior and Coco to stand as pillars and set a mark in the French fashion industry. Even though they have taken some wrong decisions in their careers, they have managed to etch a mark on the fashion industry, which has been brought out in The New Look. Will Coco be arrested? Will Christian’s show be successful? Let’s find out!

When Grammy-winning musician Jack Antonoff was curating the music for AppleTV+’s series “The New Look,” he shared ideas of instrumentation and a list of artists he had in mind for who could form the soundtrack.
“We started looking at the wish list and who was realistic,” says the show’s music supervisor Mark Wike. “We looked at who was touring and who was doing what. It was all about the different variables to make it happen.” In the end, Bartees Strange, Lana Del Rey, Florence Welch and Nick Cave were among the artists who Antonoff gathered to help curate contemporary and new original recordings of classics.

Editor’s Note: The following post contains spoilers for “The New Look” Episode 9.
With the penultimate episode of “The New Look” comes the end of the road for Elsa Lombardi (Emily Mortimer), one of the most fascinating and fictionalized characters in Todd Kessler’s Apple TV+ series. After a fight with Coco (Juliette Binoche), a critical interaction with Spatz (Claes Bang), and a fatal overdose, Elsa is found dead while Coco weeps over her body.
But a quick scan of history reveals that Elsa Lombardi never existed. According to Kessler, Mortimer’s character is an amalgam of two figures in Chanel’s life, fused for narrative purposes to serve the series. One of those is the French-Polish musician Misia Sert, who met Chanel in 1917, and the other is British socialite Vera Lombardi, whose lifestyle inspired the House of Chanel.

The Handmaid’s Tale’s Elisabeth Moss and Scandal favorite Kerry Washington are going to star opposite one another in a new series for Apple.
The iPhone maker/streamer has, following a bidding war, landed the television adaptation of Araminta Hall’s novel Imperfect Women with a straight-to-series order for the drama from Physical alum Annie Weisman.
Imperfect Women is described by Apple as an “unconventional, psychological thriller examining a crime that shatters the lives of a decades-long friendship of three women.” The series is a “mystery complicated by perspective that explores guilt and retribution, love and betrayal and the compromises we make that alter our lives irrevocably. As the investigation unravels, so does the truth about how even the closest relationships can change over time.”

The 8th episode of The New Look focuses on the setbacks of Christian, overcoming which he decides to soar further up in her career. On the other hand, we see Coco’s career being trampled over by her reputation as a conspirator. We are almost nearing the end of the series, but we are not yet introduced to the real quotient of ‘fashion’ in the true sense. Rather than focusing on the art, the series is more focused on the journey of the artists. How will Coco deal with her downfall? Will Christian be able to deal with his father’s death? Will Christian be able to create his definitive piece?

Seven years ago, Donald Glover won his first two Emmys, Best Comedy Actor and Best Comedy Directing for “Atlanta.” While he missed out on nominations last year for the final season of his FX series — he did receive a writing bid for “Swarm” — Glover is back in the hunt this cycle with “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Inspired by the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie film of the same name, the spy series is competing in drama, which means Glover could become just the second man and third person to win lead Emmys in comedy and drama.

Oscar-winning French actress Juliette Binoche is the new president of the European Film Academy.
The Efa board on Thursday said they voted unanimously to name The English Patient and The Taste of Things star to succeed Polish director Agnieszka Holland (The Green Border) as president.
Binoche’s appointment will be put to a vote by Efa members and, assuming she receives majority support, she will take over as president on May 1, 2024.

French actress Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient”) will be the next president of the European Film Academy Board, succeeding Polish director Agnieszka Holland (“Europa”) in the honorary role. Holland was the first female president of the board.
Binoche was unanimously proposed by the board members after Holland decided to step down. Following a formal approval process, which historically has been a mere formality, Binoche’s appointment will officially begin on May 1, 2024. The presidential role is primarily symbolic.
Holland, who served as chairwoman of the board until 2019, became president in 2021, succeeding German director Wim Wenders. Holland plans to fully dedicate her time to making films.

Juliette Binoche, the Oscar-winning French actor whose sprawling career shows no signs of slowing down, is set to succeed Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland as president of the European Film Academy.
The honorary role was previously held by Ingmar Bergman, who served as the first president and was originally chosen by the 40 founding Academy members in 1989. Wim Wenders, who succeeded Bergman in 1996, served until 2020, followed by Holland, who became the first female president and has now decided to step down.
“We want to honour Agnieszka Holland’s wish and completely understand that responsibilities besides filmmaking, however inspiring and important, can sometimes stand in the way of creating art,” said the chair of the Board Mike Downey and Academy CEO Matthijs Wouter Knol in a statement shared with all Academy members in 52 European countries. “A decision like this is also one that makes us realise how much we owe to Agnieszka Holland’s work for our institution.

Academy Awards presenter and Dune: Part Two actress Anya Taylor-Joy stunned Sunday night wearing a Dior Haute Couture crystal-encrusted scalloped dress that was actually inspired by two gowns from 1949.
Both are currently on view at a breathtaking fashion exhibition, “Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style,” which is on view through Aug. 11 at San Francisco’s de Young Museum (which has the dresses in its permanent collection).
The pair of famed archival dresses are called “Junon” And “Venus” and were part of Christian Dior’s fall/winter 1949-1950 haute-couture collection. To create a modern version for Taylor-Joy (an ambassador for the luxury house since 2021), Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri fashioned a slimmed-down silhouette,...
