Starz has announced casting for its epic new series Spartacus: House of Ashur, which has started production in New Zealand. Outlander’s Graham McTavish has joined the cast as Ashur’s Doctore, who trains the gladiators.

Tenika Davis has joined the cast as the first female gladiator in the Spartacus universe, a fierce warrior driven to surpass her male counterparts and earn her freedom.

Jamaica Vaughan, Ivana Baquero, Jordi Webber, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith, and Leigh Gill will also join Nick Tarabay in the epic new saga as series regulars.

Graham McTavish plays Korris, a former gladiator who won his freedom in the arena and is now Ashur’s Doctore, training the gladiators in Ashur’s Ludus. Tenika Davis plays Achillia, a female gladiator driven to surpass her male counterparts.

Jamaica Vaughan plays Hilara, a young, elevated house slave deeply in love with Ashur. Ivana Baquero plays Messia, a house slave who loves Hilara.

In February 2023, prior to the huge writers and actors strikes, Starz announced their plans to revisit the world of Spartacus. Now that the dust has (basically) settled on both strikes, Starz revealed the new Spartacus chapter will be called Spartacus: House of Ashur and that Nick Tarabay is reprising his role as Ashur.

Tarabay played the villainous character in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

The series’ will have a 10-episode season, with Nick Tarabay (“Stargirl”) returning as the villain “Ashur,” whom he played in the original four-season run of “Spartacus” from 2010-2013.

Everyone, get out your swords and sandals because we're heading back to the arena! Starz has just announced that it is currently developing a new "Spartacus" series! Forgive the excessive use of exclamation points, but I loved every minute of this show from the first moment to the last, including the prequel "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena."

The first season of the series was entitled "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and debuted in 2010. Before the second season, star Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leading to the prequel to give him time to recover. Sadly, he passed away, and the role was recast with Liam McIntyre for season 2, "Spartacus: Vengeance" and season 3, "Spartacus: War of the Damned." 

The show was, as our title says, very sexy. Still, it was also a compelling drama about the titular Thracian gladiator who led a revolt of enslaved people against the Roman empire.

Exclusive: Lesley-Ann Brandt, who plays Maze on Netflix’s drama series Lucifer, has signed with ICM Partners. The news comes as Lucifer preps its return for a fifth season on August 21.

The Cape Town, South Africa-born Brandt began her career in New Zealand after her family immigrated there when she was in her teens. Her breakout role there came in playing Naevia in Starz’s Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.

Brandt’s other TV credits include Gotham, Single Ladies, The Librarians, Legend of the Seeker and Memphis Beat. She also co-starred starred in the 2013 surf pic Drift.

Under the pact, the writer, director and producer DeKnight will create new series and other projects for the streaming service.

It looks like Syfy is looking to copy Netflix’s success with previously ran series. They just acquired the rights to Starz series Spartacus reruns. The network announced that will run the full series, including the two seasons of the prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.The series will kick off on June 26th on the network, with no order being announced in how the series will air. But it appears that they may go in the order it originally aired on Starz.

It will be bittersweet to see the series on TV again, but it is a smart move by Syfy. They are seeing that success can come in different ways and re-airing popular series with strong following can provide them with success. Following the trio of posters that are being voted on for use as the official DVD artwork for the upcoming home release of 'Fright Night 2' a brand new trailer has come bombing along adding further to the confusing premise which sounds more like another remake/reimagining than a direct sequel to Craig Gillespie's 2011 do-over.
