Hauntingly Beautiful.
roblivings1 April 2022
This is not one of your standard 'talking head' documentaries. It's a haunting meditation and reflection on these forests and their pasts historically, and through tales of their folklore. Told with beautiful imagery, combined with a creative take on the Ken Burns-effect, this is a must watch for horror and history buffs.

A unique documentary experience!

Once again George Popov shows a ton of potential as well as promising that in the (not very far) future he could be one of the great masters of visual horror and mystery. The narration here was masterful, building suspense at just the right moments and amounts. The forests themselves are nothing short of breath-taking, I have not seen such beautiful shots of woodlands in fantasy tv series and movies with budgets of millions of dollars. The music accompanies the whole experience in excellence as it builds upon the chilly and unforgettable atmosphere of each forest. The structure of the movieis quite unique and offersa rather fresh take on the documentary fornula - here you won't find redudant interviews with unknown experts. In the same time all stories were told i vivid detail and some of them were scarier than samo recent acclaimed horror movies. I recommend this wholeheartedly. Looking forward to more from the mysterious Sideworld!

For the fans of the horror and supernatural genre, this will be a gem. It reaches into the land of folklore and forest demons. The great visuals and the eerie score help create a dark and magical world. What lurks in the depths of these forests? Find out if you dare.

Warning: Spoilers
Really excellent watch for those interested in learning more about the spooky folk tales around some of England's oldest forest's. Really, really interesting for me as someone who lives near to one of the featured woods - I had no idea about some of the tales and stories around the haunted characters that are said to inhabit the place.

For those who like legends and tales of the supernatural, this documentary is very effective. As someone who eats this stuff up, I was not familiar with the stories told, and it was refreshing hear about the locales described.

SOOOOO GOOD!

Warning: Spoilers
******SPOLIER ALERT******* Do not keep reading if you do not want anything spoiled! Wow...this is such a good documentry! From the hounds of hell to something in the water that is drowning people, it mixes folklore with modern day murders and mysteries. There is nothing better than when a storyteller gives you the history AND the modern day tellings of events allowing you to link them in your own mind. I found myself feeling like I was sitting around a campfire getting these great stories, and now I am afraid to go back inside my tent. It's one of those films you want all your friends to see so you can all talk about it later. And furthermore, I will never step foot into Epping Forrest! Well done!

Haunting Trees
BigHarvey1 April 2022
I love trees and haunted forests and this film captures that mysterious and enchanting vibe perfectly. Part ecological, part historical, and part literary analysis, Sideworld is lovingly illustrated with period artwork and spectacular cinematography. Macabre stories of demonic hunters, packs of roaming red-eyed dogs, and drunk farmers encountering supernatural beings traipse through the narrative that takes you through dark foreboding woods on a melancholy journey.

For fans of English folklore and the supernatural, this is a must see. A riveting and sometimes chilling collection of tales from an accomplished storyteller. I feel like I should watch this space as each of the stories has the potential to be an incredible movie in their own right! A great watch!

intriguing and ultimately chilling documentary
JoshSegel6 May 2022
This film lures you in with gorgeous cinematography, a beautiful score, and a steady and calming narrative voice, but the stories being told become more and more disturbing, as do the images that are interspersed with the scenic yet foreboding landscape. Expertly made and thoroughly engaging. If you're looking for a film that will scare you in a non-traditional way, you should definitely check this one out.

Creepy as hell
JackieMaynard117 May 2022
Didn't think much of it at first as I'm not really into documentaries especially narrated story ones anyway but was bored so gave it a go.

First off, warning this documentary is CREEPY AS HELL.

The documentary features narrated ghost stories from three of England's most haunted forests backed by dark and unnerving scenery footage and creepy music.

To be honest I'm not a big fan of stories like these because I find I loose interest pretty quick without actually seeing real people talking and moving on screen. Something about plain narration just doesn't normally do it for me.

Something about this got me though. The way the stories are narrated and the dark forest footage just started creeping me out and I couldn't stop watching. I had never heard the stories and I live not far from one of the places discussed so found that interesting.

There's weird music throughout this too that really makes it creepy. Very very unnerving.

If you don't believe in ghosts ect then this won't be for you but if you do i'll tell you it creeped me the hell out.

Informative and Unnerving
kjs114426 December 2022
If you're looking for an in depth look into the history of some of Englands most infamous forests, and the stories that accompany them, look no further than Sideworld: Haunted Forests of England. Some of the folklore associated with these forests and truly disturbing and unsettling. One of the stories that stood out to me was the story of the man who resembled a pig who supposedly lived in one of the forests. Another story that stayed with me is the story of Epping forest, there are so many unnerving tales associated with the place, that it may make you think twice before visiting that particular forest. The voice over is easy to follow and informative. The film was also very well edited. The filmmakers did a great job with this one.
