Warning: Spoilers
Based on the novel of the same name by stupendously prolific Edgar Wallace it tells of the murder of a crooked casino owner Emil Louba. Was it his old business partner Berry, the woman he is blackmailing Susan , her boyfriend Frank Leamington or someone else? Hurley Brown and Trainer of Scotland Yard sort it out. It is a fairly good adaptation of the book. Alan Cooke directs in an unfussy manner.

It is helped by a solid cast including John Le Mesurier, Jack Watling, David Bauer, Campbell Singer and Ann Bell. Bernard Archard is my favourite character as the detective Trainer. These Merton Park productions were low budget to be sure but they had a professional competence about them that is praiseworthy and they were popular at the time of their release.

John zLe Mesuerier was just a jobbing actor prior to Dad's Army playing all type of roles here he plays a barrister defending Jack Watlington from murder. There are a lot of familiar faces in this Edgar Wallace thriller. The problem with this film is that everything has to be explained in the last 5 minutes. There is a lot of information given, without which you cannot hope to guess the killer.
