Welcome back

Warning: Spoilers
It was wonderful to see Gil Grissom again, if only for a short cameo. Also quite interesting to watch the relationship between his wife and his mother. It's such a shame that William Petersen left the show. This great character and talented actor were both sorely missed after his departure.

Sarah and Mom

This episode takes us into the world of the deaf as Marlee Matlin stars. A handsome deaf professor dies in a car bomb explosion. Because there is information withheld, there is some work to do. We meet Grissom's mother, who is deaf and quite hostile toward Sarah. But there is a nice movement toward kindness when secrets are revealed. The final scene is quite touching.

The Explosion and the Grant
claudio_carvalho28 October 2023
Sara Sidle goes to a party of a college for deaf students where a half-million-dollar-grant will be given to one out of three candidates, and while talking to Grissom by phone, she glances at a woman having sex in a room. She meets Grissom's deaf mother and her friend, the deaf professor Julia Holden, who is the woman Sara saw earlier. When Sara leaves the event, she hears an explosion and sees a car on fire and Julia trying to rescue the driver, who is the also Professor Eric Lambert. Nick and Langston arrive to investigate the scene and Sara interviews Julia. In the laboratory, they realize that the car was exploded by someone. Their prime suspect is Julia, who lied to Sara in her previous statement. But soon, two other deaf students that are competing the grant become suspects.

"The Two Mrs. Grissoms" is a great episode of "CSI". The cameo of William Petersen, in the role of the unforgettable Gilbert 'Gil' Grissom, is probably the best part of the show. The feud between Mrs. Grissom and Sara Sidle is also interesting. The presence of Marlee Matlin, who won the 1987 Oscar in her debut in "Children of a Lesser God", is a plus in the show. The way the investigation of the CSI is carried out, with many suspects, is very well resolved in the end. My vote is eight.

Murder In The Silent World
ccthemovieman-112 January 2012
This story centers around deaf people and features Jorja Fox ("Sara Sidle") more than the other CSI members. Last week it was "Greg Sanders," this week "Sara." "Sara" is attending the annual grant awards presentation in the deaf community and runs into "Mrs. Grissom" ("Gil Grissom's mother, played by Phyllis Frelich) whose never been too warm to her new daughter-in-law, complaining that Sara and her son aren't together enough. Gil is off in Peru at the moment.

Anyway, it's disclosed shortly that this other woman, an attractive 40-ish lady "Professor Julia Holden" (Marlee Matlin) also had a past relationship with Gil, which Sara knew nothing about. So, there is some tension here, all delivered in sign language and with an interpreter nearby.

The interpreter is a busy man not only at the party but at the police headquarters because as evening was coming to a close, a big explosion is "heard" and man is burned alive in his automobile.

Suspects abound, and CSI has a good case against several of them. It's hard to figure out.

The episode overall, is just "fair" but it gives good insight into the world of deaf people and sign language.
