Quick Note About Katie's...

...diagnosis.

I was given the same diagnosis at the same age. I had a much different reaction, one where I felt an amazing sense of freedom and gratitude. Much like Katie, I started to plan a life (which--if according to plan--did not include children anyway). Fast forward 8yrs later, I was planning a very wild wedding with my best friend and party buddy. Planned for a good year or more.

Guess what happened six months prior to the 'wild' nuptials...? So for anyone reading this, it is NOT a definitive situation. It's not cast in stone, OBVIOUSLY. Oh, and more miraculously: I became painfully and annoyingly very regular on my own afterward.

I have a lot to write about the series and the seasons, but I wanted to do that after I watched them all; I did not watch them in order.

But for THIS show, THIS topic: I wanted to reassure young women who receive this diagnosis; doctors make their hypotheses, people make plans...and the godz have a right laugh.

-------------------------------------------- I will Edit to give fuller review of episode when I see them all. This seemed important to write right NOW.

Great television
greenylennon21 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
"Katie" is the best episode in this series so far, as it provides a wonderful, deep screenplay able to deal with serious themes in a basically teen-oriented TV drama. Katie, Emily's twin sister, wants the perfect everything, but while she dreams the ideal life, her family is falling to pieces because her father lost his gym, her mother failed with her new company and Emily doesn't want to speak to her family. As if it weren't enough, Katie finds out she is prematurely sterile. But things won't go that bad, in the end. There are at least two unforgettable sequences in this episode: the cigarette smoked with Effy by the sea, and the dialogue with Thomas, the sweet, wise, indispensable Thomas: you clearly see by watching these scenes that this episode has been written by a woman, Georgia Lester, who as a woman can understand perfectly what Katie is feeling right now. Megan Prescott gives a stunning performance this time, and I've always preferred her sister Kathryn (Emily) to her; and Lily Loveless is good as usual. To sum up, I couldn't find a wrong actor. Very good soundtrack, I've never thought to "Why Don't You Do Something" by Britney Spears a song fit to be soundtrack to a catfight (believe it or not!).

Masterpiece

Warning: Spoilers
This episode shows a different side to the protagonist, Katie Fitch. For the first time on Skins you see things through her eyes and this really demonstrates her development as a character. Gone is the diva who oozed confidence and, apart from her twin sister Emily, didn't care about anyone and in her place is a vulnerable young woman. Throughout the episode you sympathise with Katie and I almost guarantee that your opinion of her will in some way change.

The episode opens with Katie getting dressed. Sporting her typical glamorous dress sense, you get the impression that this episode will be the same as previous episode in which Katie has been portrayed. But throughout the duration of the episode you realise that Katie is seen very differently. I think the most powerful moment by far is the scene in which Katie is at the doctors. After a pregnancy scare, Katie learns that she is infertile. You can see that this devastates her and she questions whether any man will ever want her. I also love the scene where Katie is getting ready for the hen party. The fight scene between Katie and the WAG is also brilliant and adds a some humour to the episode. The confrontation between Katie and Effy showed that there friendship had been restored after what happened on series three. You also see Katie bond with Thomas - someone who she hasn't really encountered. After being locked in the bathroom together Katie and Thomas kiss. Even though they don't have a relationship afterwards, it was a good moment for Katie after telling Thomas her fears of not being wanted and seeing that it wouldn't put Thomas off.

The whole episode is beautifully written and Katie's relationships with Emily, Naomi, her mother, Effy and Thomas are explored in some depths. The soundtrack is perfectly suited. As for Megan Prescott, who plays Katie Fitch, she gave a stunning performance. She has always played fantastically but she truly outdid herself on this episode. As always she was very convincing and I think she really connects with Katie's character and always throws herself into her performances. Along with April Pearson, Kaya Scodelario, Freya Mavor and Jack O'Connell, I think Megan Prescott is the most talented actor on Skins.

Even after watching the first episode of series three, I knew that Katie was, and would always be, my favourite character from Skins. After watching this I was even more convinced. This is definitely the best episode (and that is saying something) of Skins. I can't think of one thing that I didn't like.

Katie - Unable To Have Kids, Broke, Bachelorette Party
vivianla31 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Katie gets dressed wearing a Victorian black and white lace bra and panties. Really cute.

Dad and little brother come home. Brother says that someone says he has a fascination on the female anatomy and should become a gynaecologist.

Katie and her mom go to the bridal shop where a blonde bride wears a wedding gown. Her mother has a lot of extravagant things she wants and Katie just says she will prepare for the hen's party.

Katie finds out at the doctor's she doesn't ovulate and therefore will never be able to have children. This is why her periods have not been coming.

At the bachelorette party Katie is over dressed while everyone has on jerseys. The girls drink and music pounds. Across from them is another separate crowd. Katie gets sick of being treated badly and the bride gets angry. Katie sees Effy lying all over Freddie on a lounge chair. She asks what are they doing here and that she hasn't changed.

The Fitches secretly leave as the repossessors discuss about a glass swan. They go to Naomi's. Emily comes home and is annoyed her family is here. She acts recklessly anyways unfazed by the family's presence. She parties outside with their friend group, Thomas and Freddie at the BBQ, Effy lounging.

The last scene shows the Fitch parents kissing and "using tongues". The three kids sit eating pizza.
