It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. While the streamer’s own original content is somewhat limited – Life + Beth is returning for season 2 – you can also catch the new series of Feud this month. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. The cast is absolutely stacked, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny and Calista Flockhart all swearing delicious revenge on Tom Hollander’s Capote.
Also via Hulu in February comes the third season of Abbott Elementary, along with new episodes of The Connors, The Good Doctor, Will Trent,...

Warner Bros. Discovery’s fourth-quarter success largely depends on strong performance at Food Network, as the cable channel draws its highest number of eyeballs — and ad dollars — when the holidays roll around. But in 2023, the network had additional tasks to check off for the company, including driving viewers to Max and pushing them to the theater for titles including Warner Bros. Timothée Chalamet-led “Wonka.”
With a “huge” turnout of 34 million viewers across 52.5 hours of holiday-themed programming, Food Network chief Betsy Ayala told Variety‘s “Strictly Business” podcast she’s proud of the results, which were driven by seasonal favorites including “Holiday Baking Championship,” “Holiday Wars” and “Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown,” as well as new competition series “Elf on the Shelf: Sweet Showdown.”

The writers of MTV’s unscripted series “Ridiculousness” voted unanimously to unionize, a rep from the National Labor Relations Board told TheWrap on Tuesday.
The MTV staple, which also has a number of spinoffs and foreign versions that air around the world, is hosted and produced by Rob Dyrdek, whose Superjacket Productions recently rebranded as Thrill One Media.
The vote, which took place on Monday by secret ballot, ended with eight votes in favor of union representation and zero against. There were two challenged ballots, which won’t be counted, because they aren’t determinative, the Nlrb said.
The parties have five business days to file objections. If no objections are filed, the results will be certified and the employer must bargain in good faith with the union.
Striking scripted writer David Slack, who was an executive producer on “MacGyver” and co-executive producer on “Person on Interest,” tweeted, “Writers of Ridiculousness: Welcome to the WGA!

Crewmembers on the Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America have gone on strike, seeking a union contract and representation by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. The cooking competition show, which stars Anne Burrell and Jeff Mauro, debuted in 2010 and is in its 26th cycle.
“The crew is striking for recognition of their union, and in turn their goal is a union contract,” IATSE spokesman Jonas Loeb said. “The crew has been out and ready to negotiate since Wednesday.”
In a strike alert posted on social media, IATSE said that “The crew of Worst Cooks in America are on strike in Long Island City as Bright Road Productions refuses to serve up fair wages and benefits. Worst Cooks serves up subpar wages; benefits not on the menu.”

Production on the latest season of the Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America has been shut down after around 50 crewmembers went on strike in a bid to have the project covered under an IATSE contract.
The work stoppage on the series — which puts hopeless cooks through a culinary skills course for a chance to win a $25,000 cash prize — began Wednesday after IATSE made an initial attempt to negotiate pay and benefits for the workers, which didn’t succeed. Crewmembers in the camera department, grip and electric and set decoration were all said to be involved in the work stoppage, a recognition strike that attempted to pressure management into recognizing a union as the workers’ collective bargaining representative.

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

Traditionally a strong performer in the fall and holiday TV season, Food Network is sizzling this summer, too.
From Memorial Day on May 27 through July 20, Food Network content has drawn more than 50.6 million total viewers across the linear TV channel, as well as Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamers Max and Discovery+.
The boost in viewership coincides with the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, work stoppages that affect scripted programming, which is not Food Network’s bread and butter.
Looking at linear alone, Food Network is among the Top 5 non-news/sports cable networks across total day ratings for adults aged 25-54 and women ages 25-54, behind Nick at Nite, TNT, USA Network and TBS.
Per Nielsen’s Live + 3 Day data, Food Network is currently averaging 113,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo. Additionally, Food Network has seen average weekly time spent viewing during primetime rise 4% year over year among the...

Robert Irvine has weighed in on the end of his long-running Food Network series Restaurant: Impossible. The series followed Irvine as he made over struggling restaurants in just two days and with a $10,000 budget. But the show no longer fit with what Food Network viewers wanted to see on TV, leading the network to cancel the series, the chef and TV host recently shared on social media.
‘Restaurant: Impossible’ canceled after 22 seasons
Restaurant: Impossible was a Food Network staple for years, originally airing from 2011 to 2016. The show then went on hiatus for three years before returning in 2019. The game begins with Cumming picking three contestants as “the traitors,” allowing them to “murder” one fellow player every night.

Since 2010, the reality cooking competition Worst Cooks in America has enchanted — and sometimes repelled — Food Network viewers. Celebrity chef Anne Burrell leads a team against a rotating cast of famous chefs and fellow Food Network personalities. But as the title implies, these hapless contestants aren’t exactly ready for Top Chef.
The show is packed with cringe-worthy moments, as some truly disastrous cooks attempt to learn their way around the kitchen. Both Burrell and her competing judges over the years have had some major meltdowns at their teams. But outside of those moments of friction being played up for television, which judge is a pleasure to work under on this over-the-top reality show?

Peacock debuted a trailer for “Bel-Air,” the upcoming drama series that reimagines the ‘90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” “Bel-Air” is set to premiere in 2022.
Based on Morgan Cooper’s viral fan film of the same name, “Bel-Air” stars Jabari Banks as Will, the role played by Will Smith in the original sitcom. The series follows Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, Jimmy Akingbola, Jordan L. Jones and Simone Joy Jones also star.
In the teaser, Smith gives a dramatic reading of the theme song from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” in voiceover as Banks’ Will is shown underwater, surrounded by motifs from the original show: basketballs, fuzzy dice, a crown, etc.
Executive producers include showrunners T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson, director and co-writer Morgan Cooper, Smith, Terence Carter,...

Celebrity chef and Food Network star Bobby Flay is set to leave the Discovery-owned cable channel after talks on a new contract broke down, sources confirmed to Deadline.
According to Variety, which first reported the news, Flay’s contract expires at the end of the year, at which time Flay will exit. Talks had been ongoing but both sides were far apart on financial terms.
The development comes on the heels of Food Network closing a massive new deal with another long-time star, Guy Fieri, in May. The massive new three-year contract is said to be worth $80 million and more than doubled Fieri’s previous deal to make him the top-paid chef on cable TV.
Deadline has reached out to both Food Network and Flay’s representative for comment.

Superstar chef Bobby Flay and Food Network are poised to part ways after a 27-year run that has made the restaurateur and businessman one of the country’s most recognizable culinary figures.
Flay and Food Network have been in negotiations on a new contract for some time. His most recent exclusive three-year pact with the Discovery-owned cabler expires at year’s end. Sources close to the situation said that Food Network has ended the negotiations.
Flay representatives at WME declined to comment on the situation, citing the policy of not commenting on active negotiations. That’s an indication that Flay’s team sees some hardball negotiating tactics afoot. But sources close to Food Network say the decision has been made to move on as the sides were far apart on financial terms. Food Network declined to comment for this story.
The parting will come as a shock to longtime Food Network viewers.

A Columbia, Missouri man who once appeared on the Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible show has been arrested and charged with murder in a four-year-old cold case.
Jeffrey McWilliams was arrested Tuesday on charges of second degree murder, first degree robbery, and armed criminal action in relation to the murder of Augustus Roberts in December 2017.
The Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible sees host Robert Irvine attempt to turn around failing restaurants in two days. He worked with McWilliams on his McLanks eatery in July 2019, giving the place a makeover that prevented the visit from shutting down.
McLanks serves what it calls “American comfort food.” The restaurant was reportedly vandalized shortly after it appeared on the Food Network.
Reports last June indicated that the show was planning a “revisit” episode to guide its reopening after it was shuttered by the pandemic in February 2020.
McWilliams waived his arraignment Wednesday in court after his arrest Tuesday.

The husband of Ariel Robinson, winner of the Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America Season 20 competition, had his bond set at $150,000 Friday by the presiding judge in the case.
Jerry “Austin” Robinson will be under house arrest, have Gps monitoring, and will have no contact with anyone under 18 years old as a condition of his release.
He and his wife face homicide by child abuse charges in the January death of their 3-year-old daughter, Victoria “Tori” Smith. Ariel Robinson remains imprisoned in the case. Smith died at a South Carolina hospital Jan. 14 after being found unresponsive at the couple’s Simpsonville, Sc home.
Arrest warrants claimed the Robinsons inflicted a “series of blunt force injuries” to Smith. The couple originally claimed that the child choked after drinking too much water. Later that day, Ariel Robinson said to police that Smith’s 7-year-old brother had caused the bruising on her body,...

While the first day of spring technically belongs to March, everyone knows that it kicks into high gear in April. To celebrate the changing of the seasons, Hulu is finally bringing back its signature original series for April 2021.
Season 4 of the multiple Emmy award-winning The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on April 28. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen June and her dystopian world. In fact, it’s been so long that our own world decided to endure its own dystopian pandemic in the meantime. Hopefully this series’ return will mean we can keep our political and social collapses on television where they belong.
Aside from The Handmaid’s Tale, Hulu isn’t brining much else to the table in terms of originals this month. Thankfully, the one other original that Hulu has in store for April sounds completely righteous. Sasquatch, the latest docuseries from the Duplass brothers producing team, will cover exactly what the title promises.

A former champion on the Food Network reality series Worst Cooks in America told a bail hearing judge Friday that the 3-year-old girl in her custody died after drinking too much water.
Ariel Robinson, 29, and her husband, Jerry, 34, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, have been charged with homicide by child abuse in the death of Victoria Rose Smith on Jan. 14. The girl was a foster child in the Robinsons’ care.
The hearing judge denied the Robinsons bail request in the matter. “Based on the seriousness of the charges and the egregious nature of the allegations in this case, I do find the defendant in this case is a flight risk or does pose a substantial danger to the community, most particularly to the children who are in her custody, and potentially even to herself,” the judge stated.
The Worst Cooks in America winner claimed during the hearing that the girl drowned after drinking too much water.
