Everyone wants the Dragon Pearl
ckormos118 February 2015
This is a Taiwan martial arts movie from 1969 with Niu Fang-Yu (she made about 10 other martial arts movies), Richard Chan-Chun, Tung Lam, and Kong Ching-Ha. It starts with two girls in the woods stopped by a gang of men. They fight and a hero comes to their aid at the end. They are transporting the Dragon Pearl and everyone else wants it. The two men sometimes compete and sometimes cooperate and sometimes take the Dragon Pearl. The displays of inner power are the most outrageous I have ever seen. The flying around, as usual, is also ridiculous. Yet, I was impressed by many of the fights. The choreography is simple and limited to about six or so moves per cut. Both male leads demonstrate power and speed, making the swordplay look strong and realistic. Overall, I'd rate this as above average and quite enjoyable for fans of the genre. Also of note, on HKMDB this movie is titled "The First Swordsman" but on the actual movie it is "Life and Death Entrance".
