Movie quality in a single episode -- that's high praise
A_Different_Drummer18 July 2014
This series has been consistently strong with only a few weak episodes. And in past reviews I have suggested that Anthony Head as the "king we love to hate" is over-used as a plot device, especially in the weaker stories. But here at the end of season 2 (no coincidence, that, trust me) we have the payoff for those with patience. Nothing is quite as impressive as a British production team in full flight, when every aspect of the writing, direction, and characterizations come together to form a cohesive and mesmerizing whole. In today's world when TV and film overlap -- partly because of the digital revolution, partly because anybody with a video camera can make a make a feature length film these days -- what we have here is a single TV episode packing such dramatic punch that it meets or exceeds the standard one might expect for a full-length feature. Bravo.

One of the Best
robcoxtwo8 December 2012
Admittedly, I came into the Merlin series late, having only just finished the 3rd and 4th season on iTunes after having watched seasons 1 and 2 on Hulu. After finishing all the past seasons, I find myself going back to "The Last Dragonlord" and watching it over and over again, noticing new nuances every time I see it. In my opinion, it is the best show for character usage and development, storyline, and emotional impact. The range of emotions that Merlin shows in this episode run the entire gamut from sadness to happiness. The other characters support the storyline well and it's one of the best written episodes. I recommend it highly

Cruelty to Merlin/one of the painfully cruel moments

Warning: Spoilers
Cruelty to Merlin I felt this was one of the cruelest episodes. Well actually I just watched it again and I was thinking this is a really really cruel episode.

And what's up with sir Leon being one of the 12 that went to go fight the dragon but only Arthur and merlin was walking back.

Absolutely Favorite!

Warning: Spoilers
I've watched this series so many times and this is my absolute favorite episode! Merlin meets his father and saves the day! Then he gives all the credit to Arthur which is just for Camelot.

It's good but

It's really frustrating that Merlin can't be happy and whenever good people come into his life the show just kills them off.

It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's a dragon

Warning: Spoilers
Once again Merlin gets himself into a multitude of messes, throws out a couple lies and manages to make it out alive. I don't know how he does it, seriously. Not a bad season ended though.
