Festivals
The 17th Zurich Film Festival (Sept. 23-Oct. 3) will honor Sharon Stone with its highest accolade, the Golden Icon Award. Stone will be in Zurich to accept the award in person on Sept. 25. The award ceremony will be followed by a screening of Martin Scorsese’s “Casino,” which earned Stone an Oscar nomination. The actor will also conduct a masterclass where she will offer insights into her creative process and career.
“It is an honor to engage with the global community and celebrate the profound depth of our art,” said Stone. “I am thrilled to be recognized in this capacity.”
“Sharon Stone is a true icon of the seventh art,” said festival artistic director Christian Jungen. “She is a woman that Hitchcock would have loved. Her distinguishing qualities include an irresistible charm, a great human depth, the talent to play a whole range of roles and the ability to captivate an audience like no other.

May has broken away from his former “Top Gear” and current “The Grand Tour” co-presenters to make several solo series for free TV in the U.K., including “James Mays Man Lab,” “Toy Stories,” and “Apollo 13: The Inside Story.” This is his first solo series for Amazon and comes as the streamer moves more deeply into unscripted.
Tom Whitter, who directed several of May’s free-tv shows, will helm “Our Man in…Japan.” Production started this week. Amazon will launch the series across its 200-country global footprint.

While it might not challenge their greatest films, this is a smart and visually inventive piece of entertainment
Pete Docter’s new animation, Inside Out, does not deliver that shock of the new that was so stunning in the Pixar heyday of the last decade — all the dazzling technical spectacle of detail, colour and light that had us gobsmacked, and which we now take utterly for granted. This movie is a sweet-natured coming-of-age comedy, a kind of tween-transition crisis, though with a fundamentally sunny, Disneyfied worldview. It hasn’t anything as genuinely emotionally devastating as Up, or the subtlety and inspired subversion of Monsters Inc and the Toy Stories, which it certainly resembles at various stages. But it is certainly a terrifically likeable, ebullient and seductive piece of entertainment, taken at full throttle. There is that sheen of pure professionalism that I associate with its executive producer and presiding deity,...

Amongst all the MTV Movie Awards hoopla on Sunday, June 6, did you know there was another awards show happening? The 63rd annual British Academy of Film and Television Awards.
"American Idol," "Britain's Got Talent" and "X Factor" judge Simon Cowell (pictured left being cheeky with fiance Mezhgan Hussainy) was honored with a special award recognizing his development of new talent. Check out his acceptance speech below. And apparently Simon Cowell is not finished with merely conquering the U.K. and U.S.
According to London paper the Sun, Cowell wants to start taking contestants from all the "Got Talent" franchises from around the world and pitting them against each other in a global competition. The Sun cites a source close to the mogul saying, "This has been Simon's dream. It will be the biggest reality show the world's seen."
This is a British paper, so take it with a grain of salt.
