didn't like plot wrinkle
bethcrim-0326027 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the movie for the Australian setting and Adam Demos. He's a manly man but humble and charming. What I didn't like was the way the woman got furious when she found out his background. IMO, he was being justifiably discrete with a perfect stranger and when they got closer he started to tell her. It was a lame reason to drive them apart.

Surprisingly Good
smokeyandv-v21 May 2022
I expected the usual romantic comedy, with a cliche plot, cheesy writing, and standard acting. But I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this film.

Victoria Justice was never my favorite actress but she was actually really good in this. Her acting seemed more natural than the usual actresses that get casted in these types of movies. She had a good amount of chemistry with her male lead which made the movie easy to watch.

I really liked how her character wasn't the usual over the top American female who suddenly turns into some clumsy fool who squeels after stepping in mud. Sure, Lola did some of that but it was admirable the way she embraced Australia and work on the farm.

The plot, while enjoyable, is pretty standard. The male lead is hiding a secret, which is revealed after being intimate with the female. She feels betrayed after they both opened up to each other, blah blah blah.

Have I seen this story before? Absolutely. But this movie is enjoyable if you like the familiar pacing of a rom com.

It is what it is with good views
mccabe-shannon21 May 2022
All the other reviews reference it being a rom com and while true, there is a big difference between the "Hallmark" rom coms (which this movie fits squarely into the category) and blockbuster or theatrical release type rom coms and they should be judged differently.

The lead actors are good, side characters too much as usual (but pretty good casting job all around), scenery is beautiful, story is fine for this genre but not overly memorable. Falls square into the formula that's created a niche audience for hundreds of these types of movies.

Run time is about an hour 45 and it provided for an entertaining early Friday evening movie.

Not the best, but better than a lot of them (as it should be as Netflix has deep pockets and creates less per year than say Hallmark does per season)

A Perfect Pairing

7/10 - I am certainly a sucker for Hallmark-style easy romance movies and am a Victoria Justice devotee so this movie was pretty much made for me, but I think overall, fans of either will find a lot to enjoy here.

Full of cheese and sheep!
howmanyfilmsinayear19 May 2022
Got to love a Netflix rom com! No, it isn't original, but what other rom com has Baarbra? This is exactly what it looks like - a nice little feel good film you can watch whilst chilling out.

Full of cliches and romance, what's not to love? Stuart McDonald does a great job with all the little touches of your average rom com, but involves deadly snakes and showing off your crazy (and sometimes slightly drunken) self! These days, no rom com has an original plot. This is no different, but the great cast make it their own and clearly have a good time filming!

It's about chasing your dreams and doing what is right for you, even if it's difficult. It's also about changing things up, taking a risk and just hoping everything works out.

Ok but overacted
catherineboeckmann23 May 2022
When I was watching the main star, all I thought about was that she is an actress. I don't know her work but it doesn't feel real at all. At least it's not boring like all the other characters. Why do you always have to throw a side gay couple. It just feels so forced. That said, I did watch it to the end so a 3 because it was pretty mindless. There are much better romances out there. (Bridgerton!!!)

Classic RomCom
MissyTheCat20 May 2022
As others mentioned, this checks all the boxes in a romcom. What is a great bonus is the location and cinematography. It really is beautiful looking film which makes it all the more enjoyable.

The story is of Lola that decides to leave her current job as a wine sales person and venture out on her own with her own company. She decides the best way to start is to convince the owner of Vaughn wines in Australia that when distributing in the US they should use her new company. So off to Australia she goes to end up on a sheep farm. Never before has sheep farming been so lovely, beautiful, fun and happy. The leads have nice chemistry and no one is really bad. Even in a bar fight everyone is friends right after. And the big secret, all romcoms have it, isn't really terrible or tragic.

Good escapism and nice time. Enjoy it with a glass of wine.

Predictable but soppy fun
Sergiodave30 May 2022
This movie feels like a Hallmark production, but with better acting and script. It's still very predictable and yet works in a cheesy way. A movie that appears to be vegemite but in actual fact is far more enjoyable.

Truly awful
awswimmer-139312 June 2022
A Saturday evening "film night" choice and, as they used to say on BBC Film Programme - why not?

Unexceptional script, with no American or Australian cliche left undone, acting, well sort of I guess, plot utterly predictable. Isn't comedy supposed to make you smile at least - not just wince with embarrassment. No sense of scale in the Aussie sheep station, and a First Nation lesbian mother thrown in, apparently to make the diversity numbers up. (I have nothing against either First Nation Australians or lesbians, but the character was entirely unnecessary otherwise!). Oh and I left out the random darts match (no idea if it is common or even vaguely probable for Hispanic American women from California suddenly to reveal a love of darts!)

Oh and the unexpected twist at the end - don't bother there isn't one. Watch paint dry instead, it will be more involving!

Good Cinematography. Good to watch for Fun
manoj-mi521 May 2022
The movie started on a good shot. The story was spun in a good way to take us to Australia. The Camera work was just awesome. The ending was pretty much what you would expect, but the storyline was kinda unique. It's fun to watch it once.

It's exactly what you expect cheesy Netflix rom com. You know what's happening the entire time. And I recommend, it's funny, cheesy, and entertaining. What really do you expect?

Wow This was bad (but still enjoyable in a way)
deniseemmens20 May 2022
The acting was quite bad, including a very cheesy story. You know what happens in the movie when you watch the first 10 minutes. But what can i say, I still enjoyed it. But Baaarbra? Come on that was so bad :P.

A nice, light movie - showcasing Australia's beautiful countryside
liviavidotto3 June 2022
I didn't expect to like this movie as much as I did!! I usually find the whole American going into the Aussie bush scenario quite cringe worthy. However this movie really showcases just how beautiful our country is and together with the use of Australian music, Aussie characters - makes a lovely little movie.

A decent blend....
PerryAtTheMovies13 June 2022
6.8/10

I expected a cheesy film, and that's exactly what I got. However, it wasn't as cheesy as I anticipated. While it hits all the classic tropes of a RomCom it still comes across as an enjoyable movie.

The acting is strong. Everyone felt appropriate for their roles. The chemistry between Victoria Justice and Adam Demos is cute. They suite each other well in this film. I wasn't questioning why they paired together. I also appreciate that this film wasn't entirely Americanized. The Australian actors brought in some lingo that I had never heard before and it felt more authentic that way.

Like I said above the film hits the tropes of a RomCom. That being said, the story wasn't entirely strong. While it was emotional at times, and the story made sense, there were parts that could've been changed, like the reason for the "separation of lovers". While it did work in context, it didn't sit right as it played out. (Would've just liked to see different reasoning)

Overall, this was a good and decent film. I would recommend checking it out if you're looking for a good date night movie. Remember it's cheesy, but not overly cheesy, so it's still enjoyable.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Until next time.... Enjoy the show!

deja vu
cethi-One25 May 2022
A pure stereotype already seen and reviewed, no originality, so much so that jumping 2 to 3 min at each dialogue copied from another romcom does not change the understanding of the plot at all. If you can call that a plot. To conclude a predictable deja vu film and a waste of time, the only interest I found in it was the handsome, well-built blonde with blue eyes!

Perfect for what it is
chiqui-mabanta20 May 2022
If you are wanting to watch a feel -good rom-com, this one is it. Charming Aussies, great supporting cast, script was not too cheesy -- the Aussie spirit shines. An all-around great feel. Worked for me.

Extremely cringe. Perfect for a Friday night in
remiakindele-8111722 May 2022
Victoria justice is stunning and one of my favourite childhood actresses.

However she was overacting in quite a lot of this which made it cringe and full of cheese but hey-ho, You can't expect an Oscar winning performance when someone is titled "the perfect pairing" 😂

  • happy I watched it
  • can't say I'd watch it again any time soon.

Downhill all the way
medormer4 June 2022
After a bright start, this movie is a one way ride from reasonable to outright awful. With a dreadfully first order script and acting (especially from the lead female), it thinks it's funny when it's merely excruciatingly embarrassing, and it's even more predictable than the most predictable Hallmark movies!!! Seriously Netflix, keep throwing your money away on this level of rubbish and you'll be gone in a year or two.

maria-7691728 May 2022
I was pleasantly surprised and have watched it twice already. I real innocent feel good, a classic Romcom. You don't get many these days. Highly recommend, not to mention Australia really shows off, amazing cinematography. The soundtrack really compliments the scenes.

It's a movie I could watch again, a light hearted, enjoyable experience. 🙂

Could be worse.
thepeculiarpalette6 July 2022
Imagine if someone stole a Hallmark movie and put some decent music in it. I kind of hated myself for watching it but kept on going anyway. Some parts even made me chuckle, despite all the cheesiness and predictability. Luckily I wasn't expecting much more so I wasn't completely disappointed. Baaabara stole the show IMHO.

Hollow
rws_2027 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Failed for me in a few places: so-so plot; it just didn't have enough depth to really get lost in it, wasn't very immersive. No humour (or humour that was actually funny anyway); I didn't laugh once, "Baaabra Streisand" really? Poor script; she drops the whole thing, goes back home and expects Lover Boy to come running after her after she says it's done? Lazy.

This film doesn't take any risks, just sticks to a hollow, run of the mill formula and makes some really poor choices on top of it.

I'll give it points for cinematography and scenery, it's a visually pleasing flick, but that's about all the good I can muster up.

Enjoyable; solid acting; meh troupy plot
lynnfend26 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I always think of Victoria Justice from her younger teenage roles, but she surprised me in this one. Even though it is a typical cheesy RomCom, her acting felt solid to me. Justice and Demos played well off one another. The scenery/cinematography is lovely. The storyline is predictable, but enjoyable. The writer's needed classic drama (SPOILERS) near the story's ending, but the cheesy reaction of Justice's character (due to script, not the acting itself) to the news of Demos' identity was over the top. The best parts of this film were the scenery and the pure, sappy RomCom-ness of it all. The most trite and annoying part was Justice's character going into business with her prior co-worker, who was written as goofy/backstabbing. In the real world, we don't go all "love u 4ever, work-wife; we can be besties again," to a deceitful co-worker. That part was too lame, even for a RomCom. Otherwise, the film was light and exactly what you'd expect from a Netflix chick flick.

Well, much of the movie needs work, but if you want to watch something mindlessly or don't care too much about specifics this could be for you.
buffamantid5 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Sadly, I am not one of those people. I'll have spoilers in the second paragraph, so only read the first paragraph if you want to avoid them. The movie was ok, like many other people pointed out the cinematography was really nice (except for one weird sunset shot where it felt like a green screen). The music was good, everything was pretty good, the credits seemed short so it looks like a smaller team worked on this which is pretty impressive for what it is. If you don't mind some overreactions (as you often find in romcoms) and some slightly fake feeling acting, this will be just fine for you.

Ok, onto the nitty gritty. I had some issues with the scripting, firstly. Victoria did pretty good all things considered, I feel like she was mostly weighed down by the lines feeling... incredibly fake at times. I'm not sure if she just isn't the best actor or if it's the script, either way, she kinda stuck out like a sore thumb in the movie. You know when you're in the shower after an argument or confrontation and start replaying it in your head to try and come up with the best one liners? That's what this movie felt like a lot of the time. Adam did a better job, maybe it was just because he had fewer lines or was more chill, but regardless he sold his character pretty well. I actually wish Max talked MORE in the movie, poor guy got cut off by Lola every five seconds as he tried to explain things to her. Secondly, as another used said, I really disliked she had to freak out on him because he.. didn't tell her he was rich and an heir to the wine company? Like, he even said the only other person who knows is his sister. That means he's been working on this farm for years and out of the dozens of people who've slaved there for years alongside him don't even know his last name, but after 2 weeks she's like "wow. How could you."

Like, I get it, there needs to be conflict to have the movie go along. But why even mention she's going through a divorce if it never does anything for the plot? I heard the terms like "I pressed pause on romance" several times but she never passed up an opportunity to get romantic with anyone because they never added any competition for max. I swing for both teams so I was simping the whole time, she's a gorgeous girl. What about another attractive stablehand, perhaps with a rivalry to Max, also getting feelings for her and being more aggressive about showing it, taking advantage of Max's introvert nature by taking the first steps with Lola. Imagine; change her exes background a little (perhaps so he doesn't seem so promiscuous, make them break up because of other things) her ex boyfriend hears she's starting a new company and flies out to Australia to show her he's committed to her. He visits the farm and helps her with his chores, max feels threatened, forces him to make a move on her so she doesn't lose her, idk, something like that.

The kisses were ok, I've seen much better chemistry between two actors before. Overall, it really didn't feel like they were leading up to like each other. WHY did he feel SO close to her, enough to reveal his last name? I mean, she couldn't have worked harder than every other person who worked there; heck, they lived there and she was going back in two weeks, it'd be an insurmountable gap to overcome! Maybe because she's a city girl and it's like oh yeah this city girl is hard working but even then, to reveal your last name which you've scrubbed from the internet and kept a secret from your closest friends and colleagues whom you've known for years, it's like, there's gotta be a reason. If you told me he started to trust her because she said her mom died of cancer like his I'd at least be like, "Ok, this guy clearly is more of an introvert, doesn't get out much, I doubt he's met many other young attractive women who've lost their mom to cancer like him" and then he sees her hard work. But, idk lmao. Is the deepest we're going in this movie "man hot. Woman hot. Together. Now," like lmaooo idk me finding BOTH leads perfectly attractive leads in a rom com is already a minute possibility, it sucks that the story and acting were lacking.

It just felt too rushed without enough chemistry and moments between them. Or maybe the moments weren't acted well enough for me to be like "ah yes! A moment!" That snake scene for example, where max picks Lola up princess style, that didn't feel that monumental. Maybe I'm just applying my realistic worldview to that of a romcom, but Idk lmaooo. Yes, he's attractive. My jaw would've been on the floor when I got there and saw him in the house and then I would've kept the horny to myself as I worked to get the wine deal.

Side characters were ok, not great not bad, just side characters. They picked some beautiful places to film, that waterfall moment made me speechless.
