B Movie with a B Movie Rating
jessneudigate14 May 2024
It's fun to watch if you are up for a B movie with B movie acting, B movie direction, and B movie budgets. I was in that mood and it was enjoyable. However, by reading the other reviews you would think this is a world class piece of cinema...it is not and if you are expecting that you will be sorely disappointed.

It's very strange how the main character and supporting characters are rarely filmed in frame together. You get the shoulder or arm while the other is talking. It's almost as if the movie was edited together at the end with the actors doing all independent dialogue. With that said, this is not a bad B Movie.

Unnecessarily Long
sipproject14 May 2024
It could have been a fun little watch if it had wrapped up in about 80 minutes or less. Instead, it drags on for almost 2 hours with very little content. Most of it consists of pauses between dialogues, which became fairly annoying. I enjoy comedy horror, and the premise sounded interesting enough, but finishing it felt more like a chore because of its length. The jokes were meh; there were one or two that elicited a chuckle. The acting was okay for the most part, especially the main character who did a decent job. The movie was decently shot, although some parts felt like they were missing background music.

A little typical at first but it gets interesting about halfway...

Warning: Spoilers
It start off kinda boring. A typical huslter salesman that loses his job and ends up trying to sell houses and, you can tell, the guy who hires him knows what is going on.

Once the ghosts start showing up, it get unintentionally funny but still holds the "scary" movie vibe. Once the medium gets involved, it starts getting better.

It's a haunted house movie, with a definite twist. It took me a minute to figure out what was really going on but it started to make sense and then the movie was more enjoyable.

It's strange, it kinda reminds me of another horror movie plot twist i've seen before in another movie.

Devoid of horror and comedy...
paul_haakonsen19 May 2024
Suffice it to say that I had never heard about the 2024 horror comedy "For Sale" prior to sitting down to watch it. But given my love of all things horror, and with this being a horror comedy that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to sit down and watch the movie.

Writers Jordan Friedberg and Christopher Schrack had every opportunity to impress and entertain me here, because I harbored zero expectations to the movie, as I virtually didn't know what I was in for here. However, I have to say that the movie was stale and monotonous. It was greatly lacking in both horror and comedy genres, making it a rather bland and pointless movie to sit through. And it didn't help much that the narrative was sluggish and nothing much of anything worthwhile happened throughout the course of the 115 minutes that the movie ran for.

Of course I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. The acting performances were fair, but nothing outstanding or particularly memorable though. While I do tend to enjoy watching movies with unfamiliar talents and faces on the screen, then "For Sale" just didn't win me over.

Visually then you're not in for any memorable treats here, as "For Sale" was a movie that ran on a minimal amount of special effects. Whatever little effects were in the movie were passable, though.

Running at 115 minutes and without nothing interesting happening, it was bordering on being torture sitting through this movie from director Christopher Schrack. It could seriously have benefitted from a generous trim in the editing room. The movie is just too long and slow paced to make it entertaining sitting through.

If you enjoy horror comedies, I wouldn't recommend that you waste 115 minutes of sitting through "For Sale". Some of us virtually suffered through this so you don't have to. You're very welcome.

My rating of "For Sale" lands on a very generous three out of ten stars, and that is based mostly on the production value of the movie.

A contemporary tale of a haunted house - funny stuff with moderate scares.
egyszer-712437 May 2024
"For Sale is a delightful blend of fine acting, witty humour and just the right amount of scares. From the start, the story grabs your attention with its intriguing premise and quirky characters, setting the stage for a wild ride of laughs and scares.

The main character's shady business ethics add a layer of hilarity to the narrative, as we watch him navigate a series of dubious deals with a charmingly cavalier attitude. However, when one particularly nefarious business deal backfires, the consequences are swift and severe. The main character's downfall sets off a chain of events that sends him spiralling down a slippery slope, losing not only his girlfriend but also his sense of security and belonging.

As the story unfolds, disbelief in ghosts becomes a central theme, leading to a series of creepy encounters expertly balanced with humour. The scares are moderate but effective, and serve as a perfect complement to the comedic elements of the plot.

While there is a slight lull in the middle of the film, where the pacing momentarily drops, it quickly picks up again and keeps the viewer engaged until the very end. The performances are top-notch, with the cast delivering their lines with impeccable timing and wit.

Overall, For Sale is a film well worth your time. It offers a refreshing blend of humour and horror, with enough twists and turns to keep you entertained from start to finish. So grab your popcorn, dim the lights and prepare for a thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience.

Fun scary!
tom-28908-063538 May 2024
Just watched For Sale. Very fun movie with a great mix of funny and scary. Hard balance to achieve but it really works. Chris Schrack has directed yet again an award winning film. The screen play was perfectly written and executed. The acting was top tier for the entire cast. Andrew Roth, a very under appreciated actor, gave a wonderful performance. From lighting and especially sound, the technical aspects out performed films with 100x the budget. Can only imagine what Schrack could with a studio-backed film budget.

Oh... the music... it sets the tone for the entire film from the first moments and opening credits.

Highest recommendation's!

Glad I ignored the rating
faithfire20 May 2024
Sometimes I see a movie rated under 5 on IMDb and choose to ignore it. Over a 6 will be a film I enjoy and under 5 will suck. So based on the premise I threw caution to the wind and am glad I did.

The premise of a salesman having to sell a haunted house will already introduce some potentially funny moments and well this film is labelled horror comedy. A lot of the comedy is actually situational. The events in the film I would say are amusing but just don't go into it thinking you're gonna get a laugh out loud comedy.

Instead, what you're going to get is a clever little character study and a quite effectively creepy haunted house but I wasn't surprised at was the humanity through a fantastic performance by Andrew Roth.

Looking at the behind-the-scenes of this film with a two man crew and a 20 day shoot I think they have effectively managed to create a great movie with limited means and they should be commended for that.

The true measure of how much I enjoy a film is after the end critics roll do I immediately start looking for a Blu-ray release, which I'm about to do now. The one thing I never do is sign into IMDb in order to post to review, but I like this film so much I have to say my peace.
