Fun bake show
Calicodreamin12 August 2021
A nice friendly bake show that takes all the angst out of the competition and instead focuses on making fun bakes. The atmosphere on the show is light, which is nice. The bakers were fun and had great chemistry with each other, oh, and made some great desserts.

Worth the BINGE!
alvs-7995915 August 2021
A baking competition, that's not really a competition.

The final product of every episode is worth the wait. It's amazing how talented these people are. I cannot imagine how their guests pick the best one since all the options are visually appealing and (I'm assuming) delicious as well.

I also enjoy the fact that there's this "team" element going on where they help each other whenever they can. Although there's a little tension in one episode where they split in to two teams, it's not like other shows where there's excessive crying, insults and drama. They "compete" for bragging rights and a picture on a wall. Even without any monetary or material prize, the four of them deliver unlike other cooking shows where you end up shaking your head after they present their final work.

It's not a perfect show though. Some conversations with their clients (even the clients themselves) are awkward, personal comments can feel forced/scripted, and obvious preparations were made. Who keeps an exact mold of their daughter's upper body just stashed in their house?

It's STILL a fun show though which I hope will get renewed.

Sidenote: Christophe the Frenchman, amazing!

A nice surprise!

If you read too much into it, you probably will not enjoy it. That it mind, I rather enjoyed watching this show. I loved the chemistry between the bakers, they genuinely look like they get along. And I adored their creations.

good
djurrepower27 August 2021
Its really fresh to see a more casual friendly competition. Although the artificial time contraint is still present. We sometimes get to see a glimps of them just helping each other out, like cooking tips or just helping to carry something heavy. Personally this really gives the show some fresh air compared to other cooking shows that are heavily competative.

The show does sometimes fall for the usual reality tv tropes. Like sappy backstories. For example, something has a personal connection to someones childhood and that makes this cake "really special to me, and i'm gonna do everything I can to make this perfect for X person". And more stuff like that, wicch I can personally do without.

All in all, its much less serious than other cooking shows and that does give it it's charm. So I would recomend this to someone that is looking for a more lighthearted cooking show. But in the end its still sappy overedited reality tv.

6/10: good but not great.

Refreshingly kind
Winona14320 August 2021
This is ultimate feel good TV. No sparky nasty competition here. Just genius bakers working together and being kind and supportive to one another. The hostess is incredibly successful and is incredibly kind and supportive to all of the bakers! You will fall in love with each of these guys for different reasons. If this show does not get a second through eighth season then all is lost in humanity!

Fun but some competitors are... really bad
vincentleroux-8755717 August 2021
Fun show but clearly some competitors are not great. Maya Camille is so bad that we actually kept watching to see how cringe her creations would be. The first creation she did was worst than a nailed it show. Fun nonetheless.

I love it because...
nexusbrivers14 August 2021
It's a competition, but not really... they are competing, but willing to stop what they are working on to help each other.

It's good to see competition shows where they support each other and have fun rather than just wanting to win in a cutthroat competition.

Love it.

Fun bakers competing against each other
reddiemurf8115 July 2022
Christina Tosi (creator of Milk Bar) brings 4 expert bakers together to compete against each other to see who can come up with the best cake (or baked good) for a customers special day. Creativity abounds in the best of ways.

Really fun show.

Super fake
mellybean-9943221 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show could be fun to watch if they just presented it as bakers working with clients to create unique, custom desserts. Instead they pretend that everything is just thrown together on the spot. I'm sure the bakers knew the brief ahead of time. Not only did they always have the exact ingredients they need, custom molds and stencils, custom displays etc. The bakers keep claiming "I've never made anything like this before" yet the recipe turns out perfect and nobody runs out of time? Or they always find the exact thing they need to tie everything together at the last minute. Oh btw we just happened to find a perfect mold of the client's daughter's head just sitting around. This is like the mythical back room that certain customers believe all retailers have. I've watched enough baking shows to know that even experienced bakers have disasters when it comes to these types of challenges. Or even just something simple like the clock running out before they finish decorating that happens on every baking show but this one. I would like this show way better if they'd drop the fake competition/ racing against the clock element and just focus on the desserts. As is, the dialogue all feels so scripted and forced. Even the clients seem fake. I doubt anybody has an elegant, princess themed wedding with a horse drawn carriage, but leaves the cake up to chance. How stupid do you think your audience is? I found myself wanting to just fast forward to see the finished bakes.

Great Chemistry
rhokita-2728813 August 2021
All of the members of the Bake Squad plus Christina have great chemistry. So far I've just watched 4 episodes and love it! It's seems the conceptual desserts win. That's probably why Ashley gave up baking cakes and decided to make lollipops instead. If you want to see a show that has bakers with incredible imagination and skill--then I highly recommend this show. I was impressed by Gonzo's dragon egg and Christophe's drum set.

More Interesting if one DOESN'T binge watch.
Turk-323 August 2021
These bakers are amazing. And I Iiked their ideas for the challenges of creating unique desserts for special occasions. But when I watched two or three together, there was a sameness which diluted their magic and their personalities became a bit too like a shtick they were acting.

So my advice is to put three or four days between episodes and allow some sameness to dissipate. Some very fun moments, though.

Get Maya-Camille out!
NataliaFonten15 August 2021
Why is mayacamille there? She doesn't have the skill, creativeness, and refinement the others do.

That house she made in the first episode was the most pathetic thing I've ever seen, could have been on an amateur baking show or Nailed It.

Even in the episode when they team up, she's so clearly not on the same level and struggling to make a cake while Christophe is literally doing everything.

If you're gonna go with syrop - use heroes
jritchiej16 August 2021
I love the squad and their passion for their craft! Tossi is very adept as host, too. The guests all irritated me - they were all lovely I just did not care about them or their stories. So, it was harder to care about them being impressed (sorry, youre all lovey but .... seemed like upper class new york parade day). Why not bring in some people who really deserve a party and a fabulous squad??!!!!! This seems like an obvious component and the fact that it is missed makes me not want to watch a 2nd season of syrop with the ....trees?

Good but...
sjabrown-3516522 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Maya camille does not belong here. The other contestants do amazing things when it comes to their projects but she does the most basic and bland things and the wow factor usually comes from the display that the host brings in for her. The family tree in season 2 is a prime example. Most of her stuff looks like it came from Nailed It and I'm baffled that she has won multiple times. The host always seems to favour her and kiss her a## all the time but will criticise the others saying that they need to do more or go bigger. Just seems odd that she's a basic Baker on a show like this. Christophe is amazing, such a sweet and humble guy who's always smiling. All in all it's a fun show but maya needs to go.

Fun and wholesome all around
SpunkyFidget11 September 2021
When I saw the recommendations for this show through Netflix I thought to myself, great another cookie-cutter competitive baking show that follows the same outline. I'm happy to admit I was way off.

Every episode has the host bring in someone planning a special event of some sort. After some details are provided (taste preferences, favourite things, event concept) it's up to the crew of four culinary experts - each a wiz in their own field - to create some sort of tasty and creative masterpiece in seven hours. The person planning this event then picks from the four options presented in front of them, and the masterpiece chosen is made for that special event.

Despite each episode being a competition, it doesn't really feel like a competitive show. The baking crew are facing off against each other, but are more than willing to help each other out when necessary. The host even lends a hand when needed, whether it be an extra pair of hands or some special item to add to the final presentation. It just has this wholesome quality to it.

The creations that these people end up coming with are astounding, mind-blowing, and absolutely delicious sounding all at once. You really start to respect these people in what they're able to create, and the love and heart they add to their ideas.

I do hope this show gets another season because I really like what's been done here.

A family, fun show
chopasjavier12 March 2023
Is a great, entertaining show! Only one question... why is Maya Camille still there? I don't doubt that she got nice flavors, but comparing her with the other bakers, her desserts just feels simple and not that impressive, besides it feels like she has much more prominence than the others, she always finds an excuse to tell something about her past, meanwhile I don't know anything about the lives of the other pastry chefs, while Maya Camille's past is told in every episode. It feels like she's the productor's best friend or something, and they have to put her in the spotlight.

Overall it's a fun, fresh and different baking show :)

So sweet ;)
rebecka-kathryn11 September 2021
Love this show! All the fun of a baking competition but it's happy, and all positivity. Nobody tries to undercut the others- they are all friends and have great chemistry. Also- I've loved Ashley in previous baking shows and it's awesome to see her here thriving!

a nice supportive baking competition
davidm-1429 January 2024
4 bakers are tasked with creating a dessert for a specific party or event. They each approach it in different ways and the results are often very creative. One is then chosen to go off to the party to wow the guests. It's not much of a competition, because they're all very supportive and help each other out when needed.

What i don't get is...why do they slice up the cake while in the process of choosing which dessert gets to go to the party? If they're cutting into the dessert, that's going to show up when it arrives at the party, isn't it? Also, like on "cupcake wars", why don't the other desserts just get to go along to the party also? Seems like a bit of a waste, plus, they all worked so hard to bring the ideas to life indifferent ways.

Just watch got the techniques and artistry.
jonbej24 August 2021
Seriously, there's like ONE client story that is even worth caring about. So many affluent clients that could afford to just pay for this product. Why not put some good into the world and have clients that would never be able to experience this level of affluence? And not only that, a Sweet 16? Two Weddings? Like, can you not find more inspiring stories? Hey, producers, get it together, losers!

Great positive show
xuqdwwes17 September 2021
Our family is loving watching this new baking show. It's the kind of competition where everyone is rooting for each other. It's fun to see how amazed they are at each other's work. The bakers are encouraged to really go for it and make something truly special which they do every time.

This show would be a 10 for me, if it wasn't for episode 7
shivum777-774-58236413 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 7 saw Maya-camille win with a display that was as bland as everything else she did on the show. It is clear she was way out of her depth on the show and was massively outclassed by everyone else. The fact that she won when Ashley did something so amazing makes one think that the show is scripted and they asked the teenagers to choose that so that she could have a win.

Like competing with friends!
hazard11114 August 2021
I love baking shows and this delivers even though there's no fighting tension of somebody losing out cash prizes. I love that it's not your typical competition as it's more like a group of friends trying to one up another but they also help out when needed. Just overall light hearted fun. I love the creativity that they put out. Awesome desserts!! They have great banter and chemistry too.

Fun and Relaxing!
alex-cornett21 August 2021
I love how this is a competition, but it's friendly. The other bakers are supportive and sometimes help each other. I also love how we get to see the winning dessert at the event after. This show is really enjoyable, very light hearted and relaxing!

Fake, scripted, and hard to watch.
aht-585729 April 2022
This show is hard to watch because of how fake the partipants are. The dialogue is scripted and the acting is mediocre. Another thing is that the show doesn't make sense-I'm left wondering what happens to the other 3 desserts that are made? A lot of waste.

And also, the dessert that does win, is almost always destroyed and it has to be remade for the event (again it makes no sense).

One of the bakers is particularly annoying and has no talent, Maya Camille was chosen to part of the cast just ensure gender and race balance?

Finally, why are the winners so happy? What do they win? Really, all in all it makes no sense............
