Sex & Nudity

  • Male and female nudity
  • Most - if not all - the female characters are topless.
  • Some characters show their bare buttocks.
  • Some of the characters in the game's Lust level are particularly sexual, they moan and writhe seductively.
  • One enemy type uses an attack where a giant snake shoots out from between their legs.
  • There's also a scene featuring a naked woman under a blanket which hints at Dante having an affair, however, no graphic sexual acts are depicted.
  • During one sequence, a distraught demon-like creature seizes Dante's right hand and slowly guides it across her bare chest.
  • A tapestry-style (hand-drawn) image of a topless woman embracing a man; the same art-style depicting a slave woman breasts exposed lying on the floor with the guilt-ridden.
  • A naked woman is seen on a stone slab levitating in the air (only her breasts are fully defined).
  • The aforementioned topless Cleopatra.
  • A bluish devil/demon in boss-battle modeits penis visible during the flying and fire-spewing.

Violence & Gore

  • Players swing their own giant scythe and employ magic glowing white crosses to battle the winged, the lost, and the damned.
  • Blood often splatters out of monsters' bodies when attacked.
  • Weakened monsters can be finished off with a set of commands leading to tongue-evisceration, but more often, some version of dismemberment.
  • Unblessed infants with sharp blades-for-arms zealously attack Dante in dark spaces, they tend to hack, slash, scream, and impale/get impaled as often as taller demons.
  • Templar soldiers cut townspeople in half.
  • A man is decapitated and his head hurtles toward the screen.
  • A man gets stabbed through the eye with his own crucifix.
  • A soldier impales a woman through the chest by throwing a sword at the fleeing victim
  • Some enemies look particularly gory.
  • A larger foe on the gluttony level, for example, spews vomit.
  • Players will witness scenes such as heads on spikes or characters hanging from ropes in a suicide.

Profanity

  • Infrequent profanity like "Bitch" and "Bastard" are used in the game, although not that much. "Damn" and "Hell" are used in religious terms due to the situation the characters are in.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some people in the gluttony section were alcoholics.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Once you enter Hell, you see damned souls being vomited into Hell screaming in freefall all around you.
  • The nudity is some cases is for shock value, such as the Lust section containing vile depictions of genitalia
  • Heresy has people screaming in flaming tombs. This is disturbing to hear but however, cultists are the ones in the tombs hence the circle being called Heresy
  • The main character descends into hell and battles damned souls and demons, this may overwhelm young players/observers.
  • Players fights frightening enemies like worms, giant blobs, unbaptized babies, flying demons and grisly dead.
  • The cut scenes are violent and very intense.
  • Combat is incredibly violent, as blood spews following strikes and most encounters end with heads lopped off, limbs dismembered, and bodies decapitated from the torso.
  • Some enemies look particularly gory and gross or disturbing.
  • Another enemy is the "unblessed infant," a baby wielding blades for arms.
  • Players will witness scenes such as heads on spikes or characters hanging from ropes in a suicide.
