In many ways, Full Metal is the epitome of what Seal Team represents. The actor playing Full Metal is an actual former Navy Seal, who essentially plays himself on the big screen, effectively bringing his authentic experiences to life for millions of fans along the way.
Actor Scott Foxx brought a level of realism and depth to the show, through his iconic character whose one-liners and heroic actions brought a certain dosage of spirit and soul to the show that makes Seal Team the show it is. Without Scott Foxx, and his character he portrayed in Full Metal, Seal Team would not be the same show.
Thus killing off Full Metal, is like killing off the shows soul. And represents a dangerous shift seen in the show lately as Seal Team is beginning to take a dangerous direction towards bland, uninteresting, repetitive plot points. The shows story arcs go from: Team Unity -> Fractured Issue in the Team (usually involving Ray) -> Bravo Team Rebound -> Character Death that brings the team closer -> Repeat
Full Metal's death is a meaningless sacrificial lamb meant to bring the team closer together, but instead alienates the viewer as CBS wouldn't dare kill off one of its "main characters" even if it's more realistic. But the issue is, Seal Team has had one to many sacrificial lambs meant to fulfill the same purpose. From Clay's former buddy who died in the training camp skydiving accident, to Jason's wife Aliana, to Adam, and many more. Now bringing us to Full Metals sacrifice meant to fulfill the same purpose as every other death in the same character arc.
Sadly, Full Metal's death is just another sacrificial lamb that continues to alienate the viewer as the viewer begins to understand the repetitive nature of the shows story, becoming increasingly bland and in need of desperate uniqueness.
Full Metal, and Scott Foxx, will be greatly missed as a fraction of the shows soul leaves with them. But even more tragic, is the direction the show has taken in sticking religiously to the same repetitive plot points of killing off some of the audiences favorite characters as sacrificial lambs. While at once this may have been effective in the beginning seasons, now it has been used so much it has no effect on the audience except in alienating the viewer by killing off fan-favorites like Full Metal.
Seal Team, you have been a great show and can continue to be, through providing a unique story that challenges the traditional, now repetitive, story arc.
Long live Full Metal, you will be missed.
