I've Seen Worse Movies but this kid...
akelly-6855620 April 2019
It's not the worst movie I've ever seen. The whole concept of an "Underground Railroad" for abused women and children who the Laws of the Land have let down is unfortunately a believable and actual thing. This movie is a poor example of how that railroad works in comparison to others that I've seen. It does inform the audience that such a thing does exisit and that are real people who help the abused everyday at at huge personal sacrifice/risk. The one thing in this movie that wracked my nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard is the little girl Mary Sue. I don't know the child actor's name but I hope I never see another movie with her in it.

It could've been better
ju-meira885 February 2012
I was hoping I would get some drama, anxiety...I thought I would be mesmerized by the script, which sounded nice to me, while reading the back of the DVD. Well, I didn't get any of this. The movie is OK, I didn't waste my time watching it, but definitely it could have been better. It lacks some resolution, you end up wishing it was 10-15 longer. Some of the facts exposed are not quite clear (though you can get some ideas) by the horrible script. They tried to make a thriller, they tried to make our heart jump at some scenes. Well, they almost succeed. I have to say that I like the idea, it was just not well executed. Some of the viewers might watch the movie and get angry just because they wish to see more, to understand the situation better, and truly happened with the characters.

Not bad
Cedric_Catsuits29 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is slightly better than the average score suggests. The only thing that really lets it down is the ending - the audience is left hanging and I hate that. Why bother to tell a story and then deprive us of a satisfactory ending? This really seems to be a problem with film makers, they just seem incapable of rounding things off properly.

Other than that I have no real complaints. It has a slight TV Movie feel to it but the leads are very good, and the kids perfectly adequate. The story is interesting if not fully explored, and it moves along at a decent pace. There are a couple of silly moments slotted in for dramatic effect, but they don't overshadow the plot.

Anyway the moral of this story is if you have to go on the run, don't take kids with you. And of course the law is an ass, but then we all knew that.

Worth a viewing if you're not too critical.

Damn Fine Little Movie! Rating of 4.0 is BS from the git!~
transientdreams1 January 2012
I have seen SO many thousands of 'B' movies it would make your head swim. This a fine little gem with a minimum of nonsense and although not perfect, it never, ever makes you wish you didn't watch it. It's a B+ with heart and some soul that many of us wish more movies had. I have seen 'A' list movies far worse than this. Many in fact! Ray is great. The tension is workable. Maybe needs to be 15-20 minutes longer to work out some emotional questions and produce proper 'closure'. I give it 5.5 for execution with a 6.7 for overall intent and budget. I would watch it again for the 'Feel-Good' aspect and good acting alone. And, as much I am not a fan of 'Feel-Good' movies, this is worth a watch above most other crap of its ilk. Truly!~

Would Be A Lot Better If It Made Sense.
zorroaca13 December 2020
Some actors are just past their prime. The ingredients are their... just not developed properly. A rewrite could do wonders. The child girl actor was great... very rarely does a child actor get me to dislike them so much.

Extremely Contrived
mackenzie-webb26 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie at a screening and I actually do wish I had never seen it. The basic plot is that a young mother needs to escape the cycle of abuse she and her children receive at the hands of their husband/father. Billy Burke plays said character. His rage has absolutely no buildup and plays out completely forced. For example, one scene plays out where he is just standing calmly and then in the blink of an eye he smashes a tumbler of scotch on the ground. It was so absurd and contrived, it's almost laughable. The audience is left wondering what is even going on as the camera pans out of the house and all we hear are the screams of a young boy. After this unclear incident the mother decides that she needs to escape the clutches of this "mad man". She finds an ally in Ray Liotta's character and even has an awkward, again so forced, maybe-romance with him. There is an almost 30 year age gap between the two actors which only contributes to that overarching theme of this film being ridiculously coerced and contrived. Even the best director could not have edited the performance of the two children to make it appear they have talent, especially the little girl. The film concludes with the mother getting her "ticket out" but not after one of the most ridiculous confrontations between the mother and eeeevil father involving a helicopter. Yes, a helicopter. When I was at this screening, the majority of the audience felt as I do. Upon hearing the criticisms, the director had nothing to come back at us with except defensive responses with no actual justification of his choices. That attitude left an even worse taste in my mouth about the movie.

Leaves the viewer 'hanging'
SuzanClark29 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
--Caution* Spoiler Alert--

An almost believable plot (until the ending), with believable characters. The ending however leaves the viewer to 'rewind' what did I miss? Even with my search of other viewers comments and reading about the movie, plot and thoughts of others "to find an explanation", I still have no idea-- who is who, why..what's the motive of the father. As he shoot's the very person he hired in the end. Confused? to say the least... The most important part of a movie is the ending. It is where all the twist's and turns (and there are plenty in this movie) are supposed to come to a conclusion, where the viewer is enlightened, mesmerized, and in full understanding of the course of events throughout the film. This movie however packed with excitement, lacks a conclusion. It leaves the viewer either waiting for an explanation through dialog in the very last moments, or a 'stay tuned for part two', of which neither arrived.

Don't bother
tdub-3270423 July 2016
Mis-cast, poor writing, weak, predictable story line, poor directing, poor cinematography, and NO redeeming qualities. Non-realistic or believable plot. Scenery was portrayed as Missouri but was no where near MO which only furthered the disbelief of this film. Disjointed and amateurish. Far too many non-realistic things done by some of the characters. And the list goes on and on and on. Liotta was the ONLY recognizable personality in the movie and the others have not been seen since, nor should they be based on the performances in this movie. Why Ray Liotta would stoop to signing-up for such a dog is beyond me. This was a poor b-rated attempt at a movie. Don't bother wasting your time or money on this one.

Quite good wife fleeing abusive husband movie
phd_travel25 October 2014
This starts of feeling like a Lifetime type abused wife fleeing husband movie but it turns out better than expected and is quite exciting.

The cast is above average too. The very pretty Alexandra Breckenridge (the young girl in the French Maid costume from American Horror Story Season 1) plays the abused wife. She acts well. Billy Burke (Charlie Swan from Twilight) plays the abusive husband well. Ray Liotta plays someone helping the wife and kids flee through the underground network.

There is an interesting twist and it is watchable from beginning to end. It's not an Enough type thing. More realistic actually. Worth a watch.

This is a safe house
nogodnomasters11 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Ticket Out" and "Breakout" are the same US TV film. Jocelyn (Alexandra Breckenridge) divorces her husband Dennis (Billy Burke) who she claims abuses her and the son. With no evidence, the judge in town Dennis' family owns, grants joint custody. Jocelyn is offered help by Jim (Ray Liotta) who gets them out of town with dreams of Canada.

Made for TV quality. Twist that wasn't that great. Acting and script sub-par.

Good Movie With Some Clueless Reviews
jimcarter195913 January 2020
Predictable? What movie did you watch? There are a few plot twists and I could not guess the ending. You're left hanging? Did you watch the entire film? There's a very definitive conclusion! I've seen similar subject matter previously and this is the best of the lot!

Worst movie/story-line ever made
mitchellfinesod23 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The mother of the children in this movie is supposed to be portrayed as sympathetic, but, she commits numerous felony crimes and is 10 times worse than the supposed "bad guy" father. The mother endangers her children's lives on numerous occasions with actual gun fights. A caring mother would have turned the children over to the police for their protection. She escapes from police custody and commits numerous armed robberies in the vicinity of her children. Her actions should easily warrant 20 years in prison. When her child needs insulin, she decides to commit armed robbery on innocent people at a pharmacy, instead of rushing her child to the hospital. I was sickened watching this and was only thankful it was not based on anything real.

The ending was a let down
jordondave-2808529 July 2023
(2012) Ticket Out THRILLER

Co-associate producer, co-written and directed by Doug Lodato that has single mother Jocelyn (Alexandra Breckenridge) of two children, DJ (Colin Ford) and Mary Sue (Ciara Bond) go on the run from their physical abusive father Dennis (Billy Burke) as the law is on his side regarding sharing custody. With young Jocelyn's son DJ often needing insulin, and in hiding with the help of an underground movement led by Jim (Ray Liotta), with Jocelyn waiting for her ticket out- hence the title. I thought the ending of this movie really sucked, for which the idea was taken from an actual incident, but is fabricated for this feature.

Intriguing and interesting movie, but left hanging at times.
dorrancebrezina-9503125 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this film.

The cast was great. Billy Burke played Dennis, the abusive, angry father very well. Alexandra Breckenridge (Jocelyn) was also great. She embodied a desperate, grief-stricken, battered wife who knew she had to do anything to protect her children. Last, but not least, while Ray Liota's acting was great, his character was a little confusing. As I understand, he was a bounty hunter who was hired by a governmental agency to capture fugitives. From what I understand he pretended to look out for Jocelyn and her children, even to the point of potentially becoming a love interest for her, but eventually betraying her and bringing her back to Dennis. I don't understand why, when he had the chance, he didn't surrender her to Dennis.

I was also disappointed with the ending, as viewers were left hanging and with many questions.

I gave the film 8 stars because I would watch it again but was left wondering a lot.
