Good One (2024)
If It Is Your Cup Of Tea
I did watch the entire movie because I found the actress intriguing and I thought the movie would be provocative. For me it missed the mark. The nature scenes were nice,,, but if I wanted that I would have watched a nature movie. It was interesting enough to make it not nerve racking boring... but that was just because I kept thinking there might be something around the corner... which never materialized. Movies like this seem to always start out with a cheap sound track... when I heard the music... I kind of knew what I might be in for... and I was right. A very low budget film that in the end... reveals that. I wish Lily Collias well... she has potential.
Three Days or Else (2024)
So Slow it Hurts
If I didn't have to write 600 words I would simply say it's a bad movie. The first thing you realize is the music is canned and bland... dead giveaway that it's a cheap movie. Then the acting starts... or what is supposed to be acting. People reading their lines with very little emotion or feeling. The cut from scene to scene is flat. It's hard to say that what you're experiencing is due to poor writing... poor acting... poor directing or all of the above. The sound is third rate and the lighting is right there with it. I will be very honest and tell you that I couldn't make it past 20 minutes.
FUBAR (2023)
A 1 If I Ever Saw One
First of all... that this is rated 6.5 at the present time is just plain disgusting. I have never given a series a 1 before but I could not even make it through the first episode because it is so bad. I thought it would be stupid and started not to watch it in the first place... I mean Arnold is a dried up old fart... what's he going to do? But then so is Sylvester Stallone and I kind of like his series... I said... give it a shot. Fubar is not serious nor is it funny... and it is not even stupid in a funny way. There is no character building and the acting is just plain bad... and Milan Carter is just making a fool out of himself.
North Shore (2023)
Written Very Well
Very seldom do you get to be the first to write a review. Let me start out by saying that after one episode I can say I love it. Already characters have been very well established. The production is top cabin and the acting is superb. The actors have a script that is full of nuances that it gives you renewed faith in writing. John Bradley plays his part so well and it makes you realize that you don't have to be a cutesy boy to play the lead. The subtle wit stands out from the very beginning... but the wit does not cheapen the seriousness of the series. My only regret is that this is a new series and I can't binge.
Honeymoon (2014)
A Slow Road to Nowhere
I really like Rose Leslie and she did her part. You can't have much of a lower budget than what was spent on this film. No real sets and no special effects what so ever. Boiled down to the writing and acting. There were only four characters and very little development with them. The movie was ok in the beginning because you truly felt that it was going somewhere.... but as the film dragged on... you slowly loose that feeling. Whatever the writer was trying to get across pretty well stayed in his or her head... actors and directors can only do the best with what the hell they are given... and in this case... VERY LITTLE!
The Night Agent (2023)
Poor Writing
Started out great and then it went downhill real fast. The acting is not bad... but if the story is problematic... what can the actors do? There is an overkill of action for no reason and the script is farfetched The characters are badly written and the bad guys are unbelievable and that is putting it nicely.
It's not like they didn't spend money money on this thing... the sets are nice and the overall production is first cabin. To me it seems like they thought they needed to put way more action than clarity... which fell to the wayside. Like another persons' intro... "Bad writing ruins everything".
We Have a Ghost (2023)
Hit & a Miss
Started out OK and then just got sillier and sillier. Same old stupid car chases which added nothing and vulgar gestures that were meant to be funny... but were just vulgar. At some points they wanted to make it a tear jerker... but it was so far off the mark... so often... that they couldn't pull that off. The acting overall was not that good.... but with what the actors had to work with... you can't blame them. The overall story was far fetched... and I hate it when the cat is way out of the bag but the bad guy still feels the need to kill someone. I know that this is suppose to be slap stick... but even slap stick is an art.
Missing (2023)
Engaging
I can see where a lot of folks may not like this movie because they just can't identify with the lead teenage actor... Storm Reid... I thought she did a great job. And some folks may just not like social media period... both understandable. If you can brush past some of the over simplifications... it's a very different and engaging movie. The plot that was created at points seemed to be a little more elaborate than it needed to be... but what the hell it was interesting. It was good to see the role they had Joaquim de Almeida play... very different for him but nice. I would say a good popcorn movie... to not take too serious... but to just sit back and enjoy.
Alice, Darling (2022)
Worth A Watch
At this writing it is rated 5.5... it's better than that.... I would say 6.5 so I gave it a 7. It's a low budget film so the acting, writing and directing has to be better than the money spent. I think if you forgive a few issues... they did a good job. The acting is good... the overall production is professional. For the life of me I don't know why they spent so much time on the missing girl part of the movie.... which had nothing to do with anything... that time would have been better spent on more history of the couple..... and on past relationship of the women. But after reading the reviews here.... I enjoyed the film more than I thought I would.
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022)
Feel Good Movie... Nice Try
I can see why it is nominated for Best Costume Design And not best picture The position the writers take on top models would not fly sense Hollywood adores them. Lesley Manville did a good job in her leading role... even though some of the positions they had her play were either down right silly if not outright stupid. And even though this is suppose to be a feel good film... I was left with the overall feeling that the underprivileged have their place and they should learn to enjoy it. Despite all of this...I did enjoy the film... I just feel that the social and moral rightness they were trying to accomplish... fell flat.
Treason (2022)
Interesting
Wow ... this series is getting kicked in the butt! For many reasons I can see why. To say right off the bat... I enjoyed it... but many times I had to stop and say... WHAT? But I did get into the characters... I would say they were well developed... the problem is they were all over the place. I did watch the entire series which is saying something. The ending was unexpected and in my opinion... completely wrong. This is one of the areas where I really did say... WHAT? For a while I was thinking and hoping it was a trick... it wasn't!!!!!!! I do think it is worth a 6 but you have to realize it has quite a few shortcomings.
Dog Gone (2023)
I Ejoyed... But Can See Where Others Might Not
This is more of a personality... family and relationships story than about a dog. In a way... the dog is a backdrop. I am a dog lover and have lost one that was very close to me... so I am a ready made sucker. BUT this film covers about 4 stories... it has good acting... has very good production quality... and good character development. This was an easy film for Rob Lowe... but I think he did a great job. It does pull at the heart strings... and it did get to me a couple of times.... but I don't think it was over done. Most definitely an all family film... rare these days... but I'm a grown man and I enjoyed it. I don't think it's more than a 6... but I gave it a 7 to counterbalance those with a grievance or just a bad heart. And a good 6 is not bad.
The Wonder (2022)
Slow But Worth the Watch
I would give a 6.5 but I can't give it a 7... so 6 it is. I am not a fan of dark scenes and this film has a lot... but the costuming is superb, photography is good and Florence Pugh does a good job of acting. The film also does a good job of exposing the backwardness of male dominance and the church during that time period. The screenwriting concerning this is spot on and at the same time is not overdone. The screenwriting also seems original which also keeps you into it. Tom Burke and Kíla Lord Cassidy also did a good job in their parts but Florence Pugh steals the show. All in all it's a good low budget film that gets across the finish line threw thought.
I Used to Be Famous (2022)
Well Meaning and Worth the Watch
Don't like the required 600 characters.... but here's my take that could have been done with less. I really like the message that the film is trying to convey. The film is highly predictable but can be forgiven for that... most films are. The characters are well developed and in most part... somewhat believable. I did feel that there were a few giant leaps made... but once again forgivable. There is a good and enjoyable selection of music. Eleanor Matsuura... who played the mother.... was very good and I wish there would have been flashbacks of when she was a dancer. All in all... even though it's predictable and does make leaps... it leaves you feeling good.
Perfect 10 (2019)
Good Acting... Poor Script
In a way... kind of hard to realize that people in real life are this dumb and dysfunctional. We know they are out there... but this film doesn't get the job done. The acting is good... but only with a couple of characters (Frankie Box is good). There are many parts to the film but none are really developed. And for some reason they want you to like folks who are mere thieves. It seems that the writer is writing about a world that he or she knows very little about and it shows. With so many moving parts... this would have to be a mini series and then it would have to be handled correctly. And I think the title is very misleading... one dance does not make a 10.
And Then There Were None (2015)
Starts Out Great... Keeps Interest... Crashes
Considering it's the world's biggest selling mystery it's too bad the ending is so bad. Talk about MISSING the mark. I must say though... fantastic casting, particularly with Burn Gorman,,, Maeve Dermody and Aidan Turner... they did a great job. The costuming and scenery are wonderful... and the island... the house with it's interior are a big part of why the film is watchable. In the end... I was left with the feeling that the wit of Agatha Christie had been replaced by some sort of supernatural drama.... maybe due to the way they wove in memories. The very good acting kept me into the film almost to the very end... and then in my mind... it fell apart and made me sad that it did.
So Help Me Todd (2022)
Slapstick Is Slapstick
Somebody wrote "This show must have been written either for 12 to 14 year olds or to placate lunatics. It is silly in the extreme." Another... "This series could have easily been a much watch. However, the writers have taken the script to a silly, constant comedy that loses its appeal. " If these folks want serious drama... they should find it. I like the fact that it's a mixture of serious and down right stupid... in a fun way. The characters are being developed nicely and there is a warn family caring tone being developed, And as far as "wokeness" some folks need to get over themselves and realize where they are in time. I like the damn show... simple fun.
Surface (2022)
Came Off the Rails Fast
Things started to not add up in the first episode. How can a person not be overly intrigued when you go into a bar that you don't remember and the bartender pours you your usual??? How can a psychiatrist say... that what you are starting to remember before you lost your memory... is not important??? And how in the hell could Sophie be involved with the character Baden? The problem is that the script is not good enough to hold most to stay until the last episode which explains a lot of the whys... but then just leaves you hanging.
Witness Number 3 (2022)
Disjointment Overshadows the Good
I gave it a 6 but it's more a 5.7. Too many moments where actions go against good or rational judgement. Overall the director was asleep at the wheel. Also... there are more "pie in the sky" situations than necessary. All this said... it is watchable.
Her Obsession (2022)
Dull Hallmark Type Thriller Without Thrills
Enough to keep you to the end and then you hate yourself for it. Love scenes with horrible music that can't end soon enough. Too many times you just say to yourself "now why would you do that?". Acting not bad but the script is very corny and not plausible.
Nine Days (2020)
Too Hard to Find the Meaning
This is the type of film that you keep asking yourself "is it me?" I just got to the point where i just didn't care any more. If there is a heavy message in this film... in bored me off before I got to it.
City on a Hill (2019)
Season One 8 Season Two 6
Ben and Matt know the poor whites of Boston so well that the first Season is outstanding. The second season is more on the poor Black community and is out of their experience zone... thus not as informative and more stereotypical. Still good acting but off base and way out of their depth. I loved Jill Hennessy when she was in "Crossing Jordan"... but in this she is more like a ding bat... too bad! As everyone says... Kevin Bacon is great great great and makes the show!!
The Killing of Two Lovers (2020)
The Killing of My Time
Whoever rates this over 5 needs to get out of the house more. Not the worst movie I've ever seen... but it's right up there. The acting is not bad... it's why was the movie made that's the problem.
The Gray Man (2022)
Perfect for Action Junkies
A very poor script,,, over the top unrealistic action... and wasted acting power. I can see why Billy Bob Thornton would take the part... but Ryan Gosling's ability was just wasted, Ana de Armas played just another cute face. If you're hooked on action that makes no sense... this is for you.
Black Bird (2022)
Refreshingly Good
After two I am enjoying this limited series so much. The acting all around is fantastic and the pacing is smooth and some kind of wonderful. The characters and plot are well developed and I truly look forward to the next episode. Hats off to the director.
