Why?
winniethepoohandluigi1 August 2013
It's times like this, when I wonder, what is wrong with our world. What has happened to our society, and WHY WE ARE WE WATCHING THINGS LIKE THIS? Why do we have garbage programming for the lowest denominator like this, making little girls look like plastic dolls, with fake everything. Want to know why our economy is going? Possibly because of this, and other shows that mindless "humans" watch. These poor kids need to spend their time being kids, not being test subjects for pageant moms. What they need to do at "The Learning Channel" TLC, cancel this and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. I mean, I've seen rocks and bricks with more entertainment value than this. I wish I could rate 0 out of 10.

Mentally ill
sandra-isidoro-santos27 July 2013
This mothers are, for sure, mentally ill and the children will be too. I watch an episode yesterday just to see how far they go and there was a mother yelling with her 4 years old daughter because she was to fast on stage and telling that she would get her a cat if she win the contest. The way she talk to the little girl, the mood changes, just like a schizophrenic! one child was sick and the parents forced her to participate instead going home to take care of her. I have no words to describe how awful this his. Can't authorities stop this contests??? This mothers don't have skills to educate a healthy child... as someone already said, it will take years of therapy to this children!

The Word is "Artificial", Not Beauty
TwinIrish4 October 2009
I don't know how this show could even use the word beauty. It should use the word "artificial". The children do not even look like themselves after being subjected to false finger nails, wigs, eyelashes, tans, hair extensions, and over the top makeup. Have I left anything out? Painting 20 year old faces on children is almost obscene. I saw one mother even put false toe nails on her daughter. I can't help remembering one mother who prayed with her two little girls, both contestants, before their pageant that they would bring home a crown. She mentioned bringing home a crown twice during her so-called prayer. I, too, believe that the parents love crowing to family and friends when their children win something. Most of the children get so tired. The show got truly stupid after some parents did all the expressions, movements and prancing around for their children to copy. They did everything except get up on the stage themselves. Apparently the pageant people don't care what goes on as long as they get their entrance fees.

The Most Disturbing TV Show I Have Ever Seen...
vze3vhtf4 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
T&T's is, without a doubt, the most disturbing show I have ever seen on TV.

When I happened across it while ' Channel-Surfing ', my first reaction was,' Is This A Joke??? '

But then I realized that-This Was Very Real!

-These parents REALLY ' encourage ' (that's the polite way of saying it) their young children to participate in these contests!

-They REALLY travel all over to shill their kids into this endless cycle of pageants!

-They REALLY spend countless hours & dollars on their kids' costumes, make-up, & performances!

-They REALLY believe that winning these ' competitions ' is some kind of actual achievement!

-And it also REALLY looked as if these parents were getting some vicarious thrill out of their kids ' victories '.

-And, unlike those children who train from an early age to become, say, champion athletes, these are ' victories ' in which the participants gain no substantive skills or rewards whatsoever.

The only explanation I can see for this phenomenon is that we have become a nation of ' Award Junkies ', where the aura of simply obtaining a cheap gold-plated statuette is itself of far greater value than anything that the ' winner ' actually did to earn it!

Further evidence of this can be seen in the plethora of completely meaningless award shows that we are all subjected to these days.

To put all this in perspective, I don't see any (ongoing series) TV shows glorifying young people who work hard to give back to their communities, nor any (ongoing series) TV shows that celebrate the men & women of our armed forces, who each & every day fight for our freedoms-Even When No One Else Is Watching…

I can clearly envision these kids in the not-distant-future, looking at their shelves of ' awards ', & closets full of gowns, and saying to themselves:

" This Is What I Gave Up My Childhood For??? "

8 to 5 odds they'll all need years of therapy…

I like watching a good train wreck as much as the next person; but for the sake of these children, I cannot in good conscience help this show's Nielsen ratings, so I avoid it.

T&T's is grotesque the point of being gut-wrenching; just a couple small steps above being a cult. These kids should all immediately be placed into psychological counseling, and these parents should all be charged with child abuse.

-Did I mention that I don't like this show?

Sick
I wanna bitchslap each and every one of the adults involved in this. Treating children like this is cruel and literally abusive. I don't even care if 99% of it is staged, it is still absolutely wrong. These people are using their kids for their own agenda. You're all disgusting. The only good thing that could come out of this is the fact that therapists all around the states are gonna get rich. Assuming of course that these "people" have the decency to consult with one. It's at least a pity to see that the US, a vast continent with endless resources, talent, bright new ideas and the means to produce material that can easily have a global reach, is wasting it's time on traumatizing countless children. Including everyone participating in that ghastly show and each person who watched this. This is simply poison which helps in the creation of a superficial and problematic generation. And to anyone out there who can actually enjoy watching more than 5 minutes of these, you all need to see a psychiatrist.

Warning: Spoilers
In the wake of their high ratings of Jon and Kate Plus Eight TLC decided to start airing shows for people to respond towards the show. J&K had Kate a borderline psychopath who wanted fame, fortune and a body to die for and Jon wanted a quiet life. T&T has moms whoring their children so they can feel accomplished for what they have done.

TLC was smart enough to never speak a word of this show since they didn't confirm or deny they followed these practices. Smart but the show has become lamb basted for abusive parenting which in todays society is a huge no no.

The children are "forced" (I say that in quotations due to some kids being dumb enough to accept the prodding and poking of uncut finger nails) to wear heavy makeup the makes the children as fake Sarah Jessica Parker looking sexy. They also end up parading in small clothes that unfortunately make them look like mini call girls.

However one can not put all the blame on the moms. The dads seem to resist it until his precious is crying on her stomach because she wants to play or the mom verbally threatens him with divorce (it has happened). Dad of course by the ends turns to the camera and says "Well if she likes it she can do it".

Sadly though this is not the worst it gets in real life children have been kidnapped and murdered due to these types of abuse. In any event this show is awful for it's content and it's message.

Shows like this should be outlawed
roseannepickering26 October 2016
This has got to be the worst show I've ever been witness to. I think mothers who allow their children (even if their child begs them) to compete in pageants should have their kids taken away from them by social services. Not a single mother talks to their child about being a gracious winner or a good loser. The trash talk and bad mouthing these women do about each other as well as some other person's child is setting a horrible example for their kids. Not a single mother stresses the importance of being a good person, being kind and caring and treating everyone with dignity and respect. Not one person on this show emphasizes inner beauty. And I have to say, if my child EVER sassed me the way some of these kids sass their parents or if my child threw

fits and smacked me or threw stuff at me--there isn't a reason good enough for a child to get away with that. I'd be taking my child out to the wood shed and tan their backside for them. I know that no child is perfectly behaved all the time, they get tired and cranky. However, they wouldn't be nearly as tired and cranky if you weren't hauling them all over the place and making them perform like little monkeys. I know beauty pageants are supposed to be to help fund a child to attend college--to teach them poise and grace but unfortunately when most of the money these kids earn doesn't seem to be going into savings for anything. Most of the money seems to go for travel, meals, entry fees and costumes so that they can be entered in more pageants.

It's... it's really bad.
floxevus2 September 2013
This show might just be the worst thing to ever air on television in the history of television. There is not one positive quality Toddlers & Tiaras possesses albeit it can be entertaining at times. The sheer stupidity of the parents and kids is something worth seeing. Watch one episode, just to have a couple laughs (or be frustrated and disgusted at the parents, though that's not going to fix anything), but that's about all you need to get the gist of how bad it is.

All in all, Toddlers & Tiaras should not exist, but is still funny to watch when there is nothing on television and you are extremely desperate for entertainment.

TLC Takes You Inside...And it can be a scary place at times
lambiepie-227 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The temptation to rate this a zero only comes from after looking at this program, I'd want to rate it the most horrible reality program on the air. What are these parents, specifically mothers, doing parading their children around like this? But in taking a step back, I rated it an 8 because what TLC (The Learning Channel) has done was take the audience into the world of toddlers competing for crowns and money and those that are taking them to the pageants to do so. I am making the judgment, not TLC. And because of this, the show deserves an 8 for it is showing something I never knew existed, how these children are exposed, how they get prepared, how the parents (mothers and fathers) act and react in toddler pageantry.

As you watch the program, you will constantly hear: "my child wants to do it, that's why we are here." This began to wear thin as the program progresses week after week as I heard and watched the parents relay their stories. For example, one of the programs I watched just happened to have a contestant's father voicing how he didn't appreciate the mother taking his daughter to the shows. I thought TLC did a good job by giving this point of view a bit of camera time because most people feel that way. I know I did. But here's where TLC makes you think which is what many reality shows lack. Here's a father who hated 'being' at the pageants; and called a lot of the mothers there 'overweight, fat, obese women making the child chase their own failed dreams'. Wow.

On the other hand, you as the viewer would start to question this father's motives. What kind of man was he not to have control over his household if he felt that way? Take your daughter out, you might think. I would have. Well, my father's word was law in my household, so HE would have. But his daughter continued to be a contestant because the mother took her, trained her, pushed her. And the mother, albeit thin in body shape -- was doing the same thing he accused the 'overweight', 'obese' mothers of doing. TLC begs you to question, So what's the difference here? What makes his thin wife better than the overweight ones at these pageants? Were we to give her a pass because she was 'thin'? And if you do, why would you treat her any differently than the others just because of her...looks? This is where TLC shines in presenting this piece of reality programming. They made a point: it's not about how one looks, it can be about how they are in the head. Many of these women have it in their heads to put their sons and daughters on this circuit and no one will convince them otherwise. Obese in weight has nothing on being obese in the head. TLC is gives you the opportunity to look beyond the thinness, the fake hair, the fake lashes, pretty dresses and make up. What do you have here? And is this what makes a child, a mother, a father successful...smart...human?!? Another example TLC shows is the economics factor. In one program mother outlined how much it took to get their daughter into one show. It was well over $2,500, and $130 to enter the pageant and the prize if she had won, was only $500. The viewer would have to think, then what is the monetary payoff of these pageants? Is the money a factor? Sometimes the parent makes you want to believe so, but as you watch the program it becomes clear that it is not. There is no profit to be made here.

Overall, the program takes you into the homes and minds of the parents who place these toddlers on these beauty pageant circuit. The mother is always very proud of the myriad of crowns and sashes their child has won, and maybe that's what all of this is about. Bragging rights to tell your family and friends that you have the cutest child ever - and here's the proof.

And there hasn't been one program where you wont hear something to the effect of "It helps their self-esteem". The child's, or theirs? And at that age, do they know what 'self-esteem' is, and if not, are the parents shaping the term 'self-esteem' to mean this?!?! That is what TLC wants you to decide by showing you this. Is it a mother chasing after a dream, is the child truly having a good time, or is the pageant circuit a nice thing for a child once and a while and not a toddlers forced upon career choice? You the viewer make the choice as you view these weekly stories.

What I suspect that TLC may do is begin another reality show of past toddlers who have done this and are now adults. If they made it into adulthood or not. How are they coping? Are they obese or have eating disorders? How do they feel about what they did as toddlers? Did any of them go on to become Miss America? Miss Universe? Mr. Olympia? CEO of a Fortune 100? Or sadly, worse. Are they pushing their own children now to get beyond where they got? Did this help, hurt or was a fun past time in their lives. That's what you wonder as you watch this program, and I do hope TLC takes it one more step beyond.

Don't judge a show based on content. Judge it on how it conveys that content.
pingpongtable31 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The show content is awful. Moms, and sometimes dads, dressing up their little girls in revealing outfits, covering them in make up, and throwing them on stage to dance around for some judges to tell them what they're worth based on looks and how well they're mom coached them. Some mom even physically force their child to wear fake teeth and get fake plastic nails put on. The moms constantly preach to the cameras about how if their little girl said they don't want to do pageants anymore, they would stop the pageants all together. Bull. Complete and total bull. I couldn't even begin to count the times the girls have specifically said to their moms "I don't want to do the pageants." But do moms listen? Nope. They want to either relive their childhood or live a childhood they think they would have wanted as a child, through their child. As for glitz, oh dear lord. These worse thing in the world for these girls, in my opinion. It teaches the little girls that they'll only get things in life if they can afford things like fake teeth, hair pieces, and mountains of makeup. A direct quote from Paisley's brother. This pretty much sums up glitz. "When I see Paisley all glitzed up, it's like, not even Paisley anymore." These girls aren't even little girls anymore. They're dolls. And it's disgusting.

However, the show as a show is amazing. TLC really does a good job of showing the work that is put into pageants and how excited some of the girls actually are. It also does show people, like the dads married to the crazed pageant moms, that don't approve of the pageants. It shows all the different opinions of everyone involved on every side of pageants/anti pageants.

As a girl who wants to be a mother of a little girl, this show makes me so angry I've actually thrown up at one point. As a lover of reality shows, it's very well done and informative.

Like I said. Please don't base ratings on content and whether you approve of it. Please base them on how well the show conveys that content. This is a good show, it just has horrible people in it.

What is wrong with the world?
Aleta_Nook2 February 2016
This is one of the worst shows ever to hit T.V. besides Little Miss Perfect. I could not tolerate even after 2 minutes of this garbage. This show is about moms teaching their kids how to dress up like a prostitute for pageants that are below the age of about 8! This show is supposed to be about toddlers, why do they got seven year olds in there?

This title doesn't even make sense! The kids are ugly, the moms are pressuring their kids to do challenging exercises, why can't they just treat their kid as if they were a kid? I can't believe what America has come to! Seriously, this series has got to be fake!

AH yes, everyone wanted a show about forcing your toddlers to dress up like barbie dolls for the simple factor of depressed, sad parents, who have nothing to live for other then making your kids your only life legacy, shame on you TLC for this monstrosity.

Who Comes Up With These Ideas?
maykennon-6463917 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This show is awful. Does it even sound promising? It's about little girls going through pageant shows wearing so much make up it makes them look like a coloring book. Plus how is any of this going to help them in real life? Some examples I heard were public speaking skills and self confidence. How is going on stage smiling giving them confidence? They're not doing anything. Public speaking skills? They never talk to the audience. I can't think of one time I enjoyed myself watching this on YouTube. Nobody was likable, the concept hurts, makes the world look bad and it's just sad for children. At the end of the day you don't get through life because you're beautiful you get it because you have skills. I know my child will never participate in one of these even if they wanted to. Don't watch this show and erase it from your brain.

LOL the rating XD
doyouwanticecream20 July 2014
Oh my freaking god, I just stumbled upon this page and I was laughing hard at the horrible rating that this show got and definitely DESERVED. A 1.8/10, I mean, that was freaking hilarious to even see a show I really hate get a rating that low. I hope it gets more an more 1/10s so it can plunge down to an even lower rating, lower than those terrible Justin Bieber documentaries which both got a 1.5/10. At least it's a full point lower than that fat piece of crap, Honey Boo Boo's show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo got (It should have Toddlers and Tiaras' rating, a ONE point 8 out of 10, but it currently has a TWO point 8 out of 10).

This show is sooo painfully annoying, it even makes Caillou so enjoyable (I hate Caillou), so why is this bad?,Ok so the kids are spoiled brats, the parents don't do anything!!!,not even I would act like this when I was young. So I don't recommend this to parents who have kids in beauty pagents, I wouldn't even recommend to kids if they make these kids bratty. (edit: The parents are so abusive to their children as well!!!)

Horrendous
spongebobqtentacles4 August 2023
I had watched this show a few months ago, and recently saw it resurface online due to how deservedly terrible of a reputation it has, so I felt compelled to make a review on this show.

I don't normally write such negative reviews, but this is genuinely very close to one of the worst television shows I have ever seen. And that's against some stiff competition.

The first problem I have with this 'show' is pretty glaring. These toddlers are blatantly being used for a beauty pageant by some mothers who are probably using their children to do something that they couldn't do. I wonder what shoving the camera in such a young toddler's face would do to their self esteem? I obviously haven't had that experience and is not something I would wish for anyone, but it must be incredibly detrimental.

I don't normally say these sorts of things about people, since I try my utmost to be polite, but it is VERY clear the mothers themselves are most likely desperate for attention and fame and will do anything for it, even if it means besmirching their own reputation by joining this absolutely horrendous show.

There's nothing of value to this show. It's completely inane and vapid. It's barely even a show to begin with. The show is problematic in even the most fundamental aspects and it's obvious seeing as this show is one of the lowest rated on all of IMDB. It's trash. Just absolute trash. I don't recommend that anyone else go through the torture of watching this.

incredibly problematic and disturbing
smashmouthallstar1 February 2024
Not only are the children on this show subjected to over-the-top beauty standards that will make them insecure for the rest of their lives, but they are also subjected to live with their terrible, competitive, and selfish parents. It is hard to watch children become distressed and cry because their parents make them unwillingly participate in beauty pageants. The cherry on top is that a majority of these kids are being heavily sexualized since they are made to wear bathing suits and dance in a provocative manner. It doesn't help that all of these kids' parents are obsessed with winning to the point where they will shame either their own or somebody else's kids.

Toxic
ThunderKing65 June 2022
The same people complaining are likely the same people that exploits their children on social media and in real life. I ask what's the difference? Not much.

Not saying this show was not hash because it was. But America is filled with hypocrites and metaphorically blind people.

Anyways... T and T was a show about Southern American families forcing their children into beauty parents, mental breakdowns and being spiritual deprived.

Some families took the beauty contests too seriously by dressing up their children from babies to preteen into gallons of make up and into skimpy or ugly clothing, just so the parents can live through their child and win something for the first time in their normie lives.

Many of the children were rude, mean, spoiled and without any positive spirits in their bodies.

These types of events and behaviours continued today all over America and all over the world at an alarming rate, but for the last 3 years people's only concern was if you wore a face mask.

T and T was a bad show. They only filmed rotten scenes for ratings. I'm sure there were tons of positive scenes and parents that happened, but that isn't good for TV.

I'm not saying to ban child pageants. They have some positives like build self-esteem, discovering career path ideas, and you get to travel and meet people you may not care about, I just think everything is about how it's done. T and T was done toxicly.

These pageants have been going on for centuries, I'm pretty sure many children grew up just fine.

Again, T and T was about polluting the viewers minds with junk. If they displayed any productive scenes, then No one would have cared so much to even discuss the show.

Overall, bad show that demonstrated toxic behaviour to draw ratings by using normies to exploit their children for personal agendas and to manipulate the people.

It's all about how it's done. T and T was hash.

A balanced view...
k_hutchison415 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I reckon this show has undergone a little too much scrutiny. The pageants are more tame than the dance competitions most young girls are entering. They teach the kids some useful skills and the pageants aren't to blame for the kid's behavior as much as the parents' input. Congrats to the few parents who allow their children to choose their outfits, who let the girls 'feel like a princess' in an age-appropriate way. Shame on the mother choosing 'booty shorts and a crop top to match her heel shoes' for a 9 year-old's cowgirl costume! Each episode needs to be judged individually as some are better than others and open a whole new can of worms... From Makenzie's tantrums over beloved Nini to quiet Kayleigh from Season 1 who almost missed out on a well-deserved crown, there is never a dull moment. This show is good for a giggle, especially with some of the comments from the children themselves, who, regardless of the pageant world, would still be divas and show ponies! I would give it an 7/10 as it lives up to the dramatic expectations, but parts feel entirely inappropriate...

TODDLERS GETTING TURNED INTO GLITZY BRAINED WASHED ZOMBIES.
bettybooprocks25 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I have so many things to say about not only this show, but mostly the parents, coaches, and especially the pageant directors themselves. For those that do look at these reviews this review will prove a point of disgusted this show is. Before I begin, be ready for this list of how disgusting Toddlers and Tiaras is.

1. I couldn't believe in what I was seeing of this show. Not only innocent toodlers, but especially babies are being forced by either their parents, coaches, or whoever puts them in these pageants and then turns them into "Glitzy Brianwashed Zombies" thinking that they're all that.

2. There were a lot of episodes that not only should have been canceled, but also be reported to the child and health authorities. Some episodes have parents giving their not only kids, but even some babies coffee, energy drinks, soda, a whole lot of Pixie Stix, and even drink mixtures called either go go juice, me tea, or whatever the *bleep* those pageant parents call it. It's really bad for those kids' health especially when the parents don't really care that in the near future their daughters can end up getting diabetes or other health issues before the age of 18-20.

3. There were a lot of episodes that not only should have been canceled, but also be reported to child services and pediatrician about using adult make-up, fake hair, fake nails, fake eyelashes, fake teeth a.k.a. Clippers, and especially spay tanning. There was one episode where these parents went to take their twin babies to get sprayed tanned before a pageant and that right there disgusts me. These pageant parents think that getting their daughters sprayed tanned won't harm them, but it actually does. Because of all the chemicals that is in just one bottle of spray tan can cause cancer, asthma, ect.

4. There were a lot of episodes that not only should have been canceled, but also be reported to family services. Especially on some episodes where the parents let their child(ren) talk back to them, letting their child(ren) hit them or other kids, even putting ordinary people down, but mostly letting their child(ren) use curse words as well. That is totally uncalled for.

5. There were a lot of episodes that not only should have been canceled, but also be reported to mostly discrimination lawyers and authorities. In some episodes the parents discriminate other parents and their child(ren). But mostly it all comes down to where some of the pageant directors themselves should have discrimination lawyers onto them. Especially in two episodes that has this one pageant director named Carol Fleming. She discriminates people no matter what. In one episode she did say for those girls who are either fat or don't look like a Barbie Doll shouldn't even exist is uncalled for. Plus also that Pageant Director Carol Fleming discriminated one pageant mom who was not only a darker skin tone, but also was just putting a point to the pageant director Carol Fleming that she rips people off, chooses favorites, plus also denies pushing the pageant mom and then telling her she won't get her money back or anything. It's mostly that pageant director Carol Fleming who makes me not only sick, but also wants to tell that old thinks she's all that granny b**** that she either need to open her old granny eyes and understand that what she says and does can and will bite her in the a** to where one or more discrimination lawyers will be giving her paper after paper of her getting sued. Another thing I also have to say about that pageant director Carol Fleming is that she is a stupid discriminational b**** that makes people puke.

In conclusion these are the main reasons why this show turn innocent little toddler girls into Glitzy Brainwashed Zombies.

I would definitely not recommend anyone to watch this peice of s*** show at all.

Toddlers and Tiaras makes me want to puke.
